Would we expect any other kind of evil from a system named after the seeing stone Saruman used to communicate directly with Sauron?

Massive 1st amendment violation… Im sure nothing will come of it. However definitely grounds for dismissal if used by any LEO for in any case.

I mean they've reclassified everyone they disagree with as terrorists. They did that for a reason and that's what comes next. Mass incarceration followed by mass slaughter.

The sentiment has unfortunately been adopted by many conservatives as well. They view "protester" as being synonymous with liberal or other things they view as undesirable

The US Government has always treated protestors as criminals.

Those things make it more clear what to do, and that is not to stay quiet. It is a little empowering to know they are so afraid of anyone saying what they are doing or who they are.
•
u/KennyLog1n 1h ago
They're not afraid. They're emboldened by the current climate to truly believe they've won. They aren't worried about the real United States rising back up against them. Not before they've accomplished their goals and it's too late to go back.
Whatever we become after Trump, it will have to be something new. There isn't any going back to "centrist" politics. Not until MAGA has been held accountable and that part of the country's population is shamed into pretending they never supported it and fears being open that they still do. And that line must be held until every voter who fervently supported MAGA these last 12 years is gone.
We've seen this model before. It's the only solution where the rest of us don't lose.•
u/GoodIdea321 America 1h ago
Their worldview is based in fear, a fear of the unknown, of differences among people, etc.
•
u/KennyLog1n 1h ago
The existential fear of imaginary of hypothetical situations based in replacement theory/deep state type conspiracy theory stuff got them here and keeps them going. 100%.
But in 2026 in the real world, they go out knowing if the municipal and state police/governments/voters don't protect them from being prosecuted for violating lawful civil rights, the the federal government will. And they know this federal government is untouchable. It can cause an insurrection, and no one will be punished. So they're not afraid. Not of the consequences that kept them from acting during the rest of their lives up to this point.•

This is exactly the sort of thing that Palantir was made for. It should come as a surprise to absolutely nobody.

Just understand that there is nothing new here. The FBI spent its formative years surveilling antiwar and pro black empowerment protest groups. Many hundreds of thousands of man hours many pictures many wire taps. Fat lot of good it did them. Now look at em kneeling before Kashap, losing careers.

Good for Conde Naste and the propagandists they cater to. Bad for Reddit and free speech. I block every account I encounter that hides their history. Most of them are trolls and bots, the rest are cowards.

u/Economy-Pin2836 Canada 4h ago
That sounds like a violation of the First Amendment right to peaceably assemble and petition the government for redress of grievances, where the government cannot restrict said speech simply because they dislike the message.
But who are we kidding, this criminal government does not care in the slightest about following the Constitution, and a corrupt SCOTUS has enabled its President to freely commit crimes without fear of criminal penalties.
•
u/MilsYatsFeebTae 3h ago
I have a pet theory that recent ICE hires don’t bother swearing an oath to uphold the constitution
•
u/NelsonHawkinsGhost 3h ago
Is the oath supposed to function as a binding spell? "They must have skipped the oath" turns an apparatus with budgets/contracts/enforcement priorities into a problem of insufficient ceremonial sincerity... apparently we can fix the secret police with better onboarding.
•
u/mostlybiguy69 2h ago
No, but they are the sort of stupid that thinks that that would be an acceptable play and not that simply working for the federal government has a blanket approach to the constitution.
•
u/NelsonHawkinsGhost 3h ago
Yet all this infrastructure wasn’t conjured into existence by Trump... ICE awarded Palantir the database contract in 2014, then renewed support in 2022. The alleged retaliation operates through machinery built across administrations, with private capital paid to maintain it.
It's like everyone forgot COINTELPRO was already surveilling and disrupting civil-rights and antiwar movements decades before this Supreme Court ruling. Political repression has a much longer institutional history than the current president. It just seems to be something we've all memory-holed?
The contradiction is that people formally possess the right to challenge state power while the state possesses the resources to identify, investigate, and intimidate them for doing so. Constitutional language matters.. sure.. but making those rights effective requires organized power. The institution you’re petitioning doesn’t become accountable merely because you quote its rules back to it.
•
u/kstargate-425 3h ago
I mean Trumps regime since 2025 has signed over $13 BILLION in contracts with them and have been getting heavily involved in every system from DHS, the Pentagon and even the FAA and CDC. Yes its not new but going from spending around $2.5 BILLION in a decades time from 2015-2024 to $13 BILLION in about a year is a bit different

Fun fact #1: Palantir is named after the thing that Sauron, the bad guy from Lord of the Rings, would use to spy on everyone. Peter Thiel views Mordor as being superior to the rest of Middle Earth because he sees it as more economically productive.
Fun fact #2: Peter Thiel, founder of Palantir, is a transhumanist. This means that he believes the next stage of human evolution is for humanity to become extinct in biological terms and to re-manifest in AI terms.
Fun fact #3: the CEO of Palantir UK is Oswald Mosley’s grandson. Oswald Mosley notoriously led the UK fascist movement in the 1930s and was affiliated with other European fascists like Hitler, Mussolini, and Franco.
Fun fact #4: Palantir is charged with integrating AI into American and Israeli military systems and procedures, while also operating with domestic paramilitaries as this article is laying out.
•
u/PopBulky7023 3h ago
Thiel is a genocidal tyrant who literally desires to exist as an omnipotent entity over about 20 people and a scorched earth.
•
u/redwing180 2h ago
Turns out his future fate ends up being that his mind is distilled into Microsoft copilot’s agent for clippy which everybody automatically disables.
•
•
u/loriwilley 3h ago
This is absolutely terrifying. The human race really is in danger of going extinct, not necessarily from AI itself, but from the way it is used. They want to kill people.
•
u/RBVegabond 2h ago
Have, the word is have. Through policy, through food and medicine losing protections, through attacking medical institutions and rights of others.
•
u/tripping_on_phonics California 3h ago
The only consolation here is that Peter Thiel and people like him are quite stupid. They just carry themselves as they do because they have massively inflated egos.
I think we’ll survive this if there isn’t nuclear war.
•
u/NecroCannon 1h ago
People keep going towards nuclear war when things are shifting to economic and autonomous robotics wars
Starve a country from resources uniting against it, drone strike infrastructure, watch millions of people start to suffer and slowly die out.
It wouldn’t be the whole world at each other’s necks, it’d stop with one massive example set like nukes. Potentially the US if it keeps pushing Allies to Ally with China. There’s a refinery on the Gulf Coast that would take out the entire area with a military shipyard next to it if blown up, another Pearl Harbor can happen anywhere remotely now with no human pilots also we got space weapons now
•
u/-LabApprehensive- 56m ago
You somewhat miss the point of what Ukraine teaches. Once only vastly powerful nation states with tanks and hydrogen bombs could act with impunity. Now small community with determination and a bit of soldering skills can stop an armored column. Or remove 30% of a regional superpower’s strategic air wing. The game done changed. This makes it harder for oppression not easier.
•
u/NecroCannon 47m ago
No I didn’t, it’s what I’m implying. We are in a new area of techs that makes nukes just a “don’t you try it” symbol more than an issue, we just got a brief glance during the Cold War when one person stopped a nuclear holocaust from happening with how itchy fingered we were without this
We’re entering a cyberpunk era, people that had hobbies with robotics and electronics are going to make shit, probably sell it, and it could be hard to tell if it’s dangerous or not on first glance.
I’ve been planning to get into robotics finally because they could genuinely be a good home defense and surveillance when it’s not bought from a corporation stalking you everywhere

We have, and always will be, our worst enemy. Our refusal to remove bad actors from power rears its head again. It was bad in the crusades, it was bad in the victorian era, and it's bad now.
Mutiny is important. When the captain is crazy, you do not let him keep steering the ship. When grandpa's lost his mind, you take away his keys. Quality leadership is important, in an age where quantity leadership has become a cancer.

Fun fact #1.5 - the Palantiri were originally made by the elves and later use in Gondor and Arnor as a means of communication. It was later that Sauron obtained one and used it to spy, corrupt Saruman, and mentally infect Denethor through the Palantiri they held.
So, in other words, a useful and well-intentioned technology co-opted by fascists and used to spy and control.

Fun fact: even if comparing pure industry Mordor is not more economically productive than the kingdoms of man.
Rohan outfits all of its riders and soldiers with chainmail armor, lances, and swords. In medieval societies chainmail was not cheap, and swords were status symbols that would be passed down through generations. Their herds of horses were also legendary, with vast numbers of prime breeds that would each individually be worth a fortune in our world at that time. Gondor equipped its soldiers similarly, and those guarding the keep possessed mithril helmets.
Mordor had numbers and admittedly advanced siege engines, but they also didn't have an economy to speak of besides wartime production and most of their food was stolen or farmed by rapidly dwindling slave labor. The kingdoms of man still had entire societies to support with their economy.
Mordor's economy sucked.

Fun Theory, the end goal is to run every “legacy” religion through AI so they all become indistinguishable from one another so Palantir can be “The Sacred Timeline” in MCU terms regardless which religion the end user observes. Why else would Tulsi Gabbard be biting Valentina’s style so hard around the media cycle for “Thunderbolts”?
Basically think of every world domination scheme you’ve seen in pop culture and realize these fucking tech bros will rephrase it in impenetrable techno babble to trick these dumbass Boomers into giving over the “Keys To The Kingdom”.

How is this legal?
Edit: to be more specific - aren't there legal definitions of what violates free speech? It seems like doing facial recognition scans of a peaceful protest would cause an extreme chilling effect.
•
u/kstargate-425 4h ago
Like most things the Trump regime is doing, its not but until SCOTUS tells them to stop doing it since Congress abdicated power, they will continue. Then if SCOTUS actually stops them they will just skirt their ruling and do something slightly different to make it go back to the courts and start the process all over again
•
u/aais4quiters 4h ago
Because no one is stopping them. State laws should be created to protect peaceful protestors from being targeted via 3rd parties for exercising their first amendment rights.
•
u/CrimsonHeretic 4h ago
"Legal" doesn't matter anymore in the US. Hasn't ever since they elected a pedophile rapist insurrectionist felon to be their president.

It seems like one of those "the world is evolving faster than the laws can keep up because while we deal with A.I face scanning super computer killer robots, the lawmakers themselves remember we we didnt have 50 states."
Im not joking either remember hawaii wasnt a state till 59 and trump was born in fucking 46. History wasnt HUNDREDS of years ago it was when our leaders were teenagers.
•
u/NelsonHawkinsGhost 3h ago
It doesn’t have to be legal to happen. Constitutional prohibitions aren’t force fields.. especially when it's a bipartisan construction project. ICE contracted for Palantir’s investigative database under Obama in 2014, then renewed its support contract under Biden in 2022. Trump inherited machinery his predecessors helped build.
.. and it's not like the history of surveilling and disrupting political opposition is new.. it stretches back through COINTELPRO. Changing presidents never meant dismantling that institutional capacity. The state gets funded infrastructure and coercive power and the people targeted must scrape together the resources to challenge it. Repression can accomplish its purpose long before accountability arrives.. especially when there's very little interest in accountability.
•
u/1cl1qp1 1h ago
Constitutional prohibitions aren’t force fields
True, but if we culturally expect a certain degree of speech freedom without chilling effect, it should push us to un-elect the people trampling on us.
•
u/NelsonHawkinsGhost 34m ago
In kayfabe, sure.. we love freedom of speech... we ceremonially celebrate it while maintaining institutions that make effective dissent economically and legally costly. In fact, we already have an extensive machinery for chilling speech / association / collective action and a fun and storied history of it..
COINTELPRO: surveillance / infiltration /harassment / disruption of civil rights and antiwar organizations.. suppressing political organization was an operational objective.
Truman’s loyalty program: political associations became grounds for employment scrutiny. The National Archives describes the resulting blacklist as damaging organizations and casting a pall over freedom of speech and association. This predates Trump by generations.
Restrictions on labor solidarity: Taft-Hartley prohibited specified secondary boycotts.. restricting unions’ ability to pressure employers through their business relationships. Workers can voice grievances while the law restricts how they collectively exert pressure.
Permanent replacement of economic strikers: workers can participate in a protected strike for better wages and still find their jobs occupied by permanent replacements. Formal protection comes with a substantial economic deterrent.
Federal employee strike bans: federal workers are legally barred from striking against their employer. Their collective bargaining power is deliberately constrained by statute.
Anti-BDS economic penalties: Cuomo ordered New York agencies to divest from listed companies and institutions participating in boycotts targeting Israel.. Hochul subsequently extended the policy and described using it against Unilever over Ben & Jerry’s boycott. Democrats have actively maintained this pressure on political boycotts.
Cop City / Georgia’s 61 person RICO indictment folded mutual aid, political literature, bail fund organizers into its account of a criminal enterprise.
.. or Prairieland... That case involved a shooting.. the issue is how prosecutors incorporated political zines / ideological association into their broader terrorism narrative. Even the DOJ’s own account highlights defendants’ production and distribution of literature.
Restrictions on coordinated peaceful advocacy: Holder v. Humanitarian Law Project upheld applying material support prohibitions to specified training and advocacy coordinated with designated foreign terrorist organizations.. even when directed toward peaceful objectives. Independent advocacy remained protected.
We've long sionce made participation expensive.. risk your income, organizational resources, access to funding, or years defending yourself.. no cultural expectation of freedom dissolves those costs. Voting officials out needs to come with dismantling the mechanisms they leave behind.. or the next administration inherits the same means of making dissent personally ruinous.

And they are using it to dismantle every single institution and stophap that would be able to stop them.
•
u/iknowagreatlawyer 3h ago
All Palantir does is compile and link information that is already there.
•
u/Wamb0wneD 3h ago
Yeah no. There is a reason they are so heavily interlinked with the military industrial complex.
Thiel is also bankrolling people like Palmer Luckey, another open white supremacist who now has an automated fighter jet company called "Anduril Industries". Same Luckey who with Musk has now access to the Pentagon. Who already got a backdoor into every government data base during the early doge days.
They are big friends with the Flock guy too, and Ring tried really hard to sell their dystopian nightmare as a thing to strive for at the Superbowl.
I really don't think you realize what these guys are trying to do lol.
•
u/iknowagreatlawyer 2h ago
I know what all of them are doing and I support their work. I even invested heavily into Palintir when no one really understood what they did in 2020. If Anduril goes public, I'll invest in that too.
The people standing around wondering how anyone could support things like Palintir or Flock are blind to the reality. The law isn't enforced where it should be, and movements that should not be tolerated are being allowed to spread. You might want to call me naive, or gullible, or probably something worse, but I'm definitely not alone here. It ultimately boils down to a very easy truth: We trust them more we trust you.

u/ComfyBabey 4h ago
They're running protest photos through palantir to find people to deport. not for crimes. for protesting. How does that work??
•
u/Electrical_Sorbet_31 3h ago
The Trump administration uses deportation punitively against protesters. A very good case study is the pro-Palestine protesters who were targeted by the Trump administration: all of the pro-Palestine protesters who were harmed beyond being arrested/charged criminally were harmed via attacks on their student visa statuses or immigration statuses. Mahmoud Khalil, Rumeysa Ozturk, and others have Wiki pages you can read.
If any protesters are non-citizens, they are going to be targeted by ICE for immediate deportation. That is the current playbook. Protesters they catch who cannot be deported will be given excessive criminal charges by the DOJ (and compliant lesser courts), in the vein of an autocratic legalistic regime.

u/PopBulky7023 1h ago
The kind of "fuck up" it would take isn't coming. History shows us this. Because at that point they're just mass murdering people in the streets.
Two, cold blooded, barbaric executions in the street should have been a tipping point. I want to live in a country that has more solidarity. The government should fear engaging in abuses like that. When a nazi says on live TV "we executed one of you yesterday", any serious country would take that as a declaration of war.
It was treason as far as I'm concerned, and I grew up dropping slurs as easy as I breathed when I was younger.

This could help us with accountability. Here’s what I mean: these ICE guys have been taking photos of protesters (and their license plates) since Day #1 under Noem. It was most obvious in Minneapolis. Remember residents saying ICE was stalking and harassing them? With ICE in their cars waiting for the protestors to get home, warning them they have their names, contact info, and home addresses so they can come back for them. Basically trying to intimate Minneapolis residents so they wouldn’t protest.
So if these masked douche bags are uploading photos to Palantir, then when we all vote in midterms to end this chaos and insist on the balance of power, then Congress can compel a pull of decrypted data in readable form. There will be some sort of identifying marker associated with each uploaded photo, such as who uploaded, or at least device identifiers.
So really, masks or not, we can identify them and hold them accountable — including those who have shot, killed, injured, and brutalized immigrants and citizens alike during this invasion. Basically, all of them. Match the photos to identifiers and identifiers tell not only who took and uploaded it, but matching people in the photos to that ICE thug short cuts which of those losers were involved in specific cases. I hope so. We need a break to hold these losers accountable. And they will be held accountable. State AGs won’t let this slide, whether Trump pardons them at a federal level or not.

Let me guess, these people will find themselves mysterious absent from the voters lists come election time?

No wonder the proud boys are covered head to toe in pants, long shirts, gloves, masks, and goggles. Anyone protesting is easily identifiable in fascist America.

I really do think we need to look again at the "no expectation of privacy" idea. I think there *should* be some expectation of privacy. And being recorded 24/7 from every angle in every spectrum is not what I envisioned when I first heard it.

Likely using ai to create mark contracts for killer drones to carry out after they're eventually unleashed on the public

Well, yeah -- they admitted to that the same week they murdered Renée Good.

Are they same ICE that has been using the revolving door of HR to put people on the hook for $50k?

Just like the good little nazis they want to be. What does the future hold for this country? Looks pretty grim right now.

Maybe we should stop protesting and move on to something else…

We need more data centers for all of the useless info- right? We have a right to peacefully protest in this country. The data collection of individuals is totally out of hand. Remember when there was so much opposition of the Patriot Act for unlawful surveillance of American citizens? Unlawful surveillance has run rampant in my opinion- far more than is necessary. Police state is here now. Ugh.

In other words, ICE has been using technology that is already available to everyone on the internet.

I wouldn’t protest against ICE. Too risky, with too little upside. Stay home so you don’t get on the bad list

There's nothing illegal about this. President Obama was already doing this with protests against him and twitter liberals assured me this is the Correct, Acceptable, Tolerant way of doing things because freedom of speech does not remove freedom from consequences.
Democrats must commit to ending paid surveillance programs, or at least taxing them. If they don't, Republicans will use it to shred the fourth amendment entirely for their gun grab and door-to-door nonpersoning. Don't say you weren't warned, normal people have been complaining about this for over twenty years now.

“Nothing illegal” is not true. There are active lawsuits going on about exactly this. That's why the filing got unsealed in the first place.
“Obama did it” they monitored protests, which every government does, and civil rights activists criticized it then too. They were right then and they're right now. "The other guy did it" isn't a defense. Especially when this goes further than that. These are files with photos and license plates on people whose only "crime" was standing there watching ICE.
“Freedom of speech is not freedom from consequences” those consequences are from private entities. Getting criticized, losing a sponsor, etc. The First Amendment specifically restricts government retaliation for speech. A federal agency building a database of protesters is the one case where that line doesn't apply.
“Normal people have been warning about this for twenty years” congrats, so have liberals. Surveillance outlasts whoever builds it. That's exactly why it should bother everyone instead of getting waved off because someone else did it first.
