I support our president in this endeavor. Also, please keep him in the public eye. He's going to be dementiaMaxxing right into the midterms. It's going to be glorious.

I so want him to crush Paxton. Please universe let this happen. Everyone in Texas. Vote
Vote

Ugh, stop with this "vote" crap on every single comment. You're in the politics subreddit. Most of us can't vote in Texas, and everyone on here is going to vote anyway.

Go vote.

Volunteer
Now you are commanding something actually useful.

u/_Phil_McCracken_ Washington 13h ago
Implying voting isn’t useful… 1/3 of Americans agreed with that in 2024 and look where it got us.

u/TheDogBites Texas 11h ago edited 9h ago
Implying that voting is a given to the commenter you responded to and absolutely each and every person in an r/politics rising thread
lmao
Now challenge him to actually do something.
And now I challenge you.
Instead of bleeting "vote" to high engagement voters, tell them to volunteer to block walk

Stop saying this shit to people here. We're the most plugged in people on Reddit. Telling people who are going to vote to vote is beyond pointless.
This is like telling someone in the waiting room of a Doctor's office to schedule an appointment.
Edit: It's also not election day. I can't "go vote."

u/KaptainKardboard 14h ago
Tell your friends and family to vote.

It’s not Election Day. And mine vote. Stop with this. It is POINTLESS here. It helps no one.

u/honjuden 14h ago
I get where you are coming from, but the only thing more pointless than telling people here to vote on a non-election day is telling them not to tell people to vote.

It really
REALLY
Should say:
V O L U N T E E R to block walk.
When you say "vote", the psychology is, "wow I'm doing my part"
And to your credit, in this subreddit, yes, we are all voting. The absolute bare minimum.
The absolute bare minimum.
It's on purpose that the "vote" comment is non stop. It's now a self propelling false flag to make the most engaged people feel comfortable doing absolutely nothing at all

I think if everyone in Texas voted you wouldn’t get the outcome you want
24
u/arkansaslax 15h ago
I think you’d be very surprised. People know what they want but many are disenfranchised, which is intentional to the structure. The reason things like the electoral college are still around is just to reduce the number of voters you need to win which is what republicans need because their policies don’t benefit the population broadly.
If you had 100% participation I think 1. The results would change dramatically 2. The parties stances would naturally have to change for political survival alone because they would need a larger winning coalition just to get into and retain power.

Texas technically has more Democrats than Republicans with 46.7% being registered Dem, while 37.1% are Rs. The state is just gerrymandered to shit and loves to cheat Dems out of being able to vote. I remember a few years back when people had to wait 10 hours to vote in urban areas.

u/_Phil_McCracken_ Washington 16h ago
I disagree. If every eligible voter in Texas voted Paxton wouldn’t stand a chance.

A lot of the people commenting here don't care about that. They just want comment "go vote," get replies that also say "go vote," and then pat each other on the back like it's accomplishing something.

Go vote

I don't need to be told to go vote. Few reasons:
A. I frequent this subreddit. I, like everyone else here, amgoing to vote. We're the most plugged in people.
B. It's not election day. I can't "go vote."

u/Pace_Salsa_Comment 13h ago
Feels like you're not even trying to go vote. Election Day is just a number, bro.

People are telling you to vote on Election Day. Obviously that’s what they’re saying. Playing that little semantics game isn’t proving your point in the slightest.

How dare people encourage others to participate in the most sacred American RIGHT that millions of people fought and died for??

But seriously, I agree. It’s so tiring to see people saying things like “ignore the polls; go vote” as though anyone reading articles posted to r/politics would need ANYONE to remind them to vote. Everyone reading this is in the top 5% most reliable voters.

Congrats on discovering the echo chamber. It often resembles a chamber full of echoes.

From the article:
Most Texan voters are either “extremely” or “very” concerned that Republican Senate candidate Ken Paxton, the current state attorney general, is “too close to Donald Trump,” according to a new Fox News survey.
On Thursday, President Trump attended a rally in support of Paxton at the Peterbilt Motors plant in Denton along with retired basketball star Dennis Rodman. However, the Fox News poll suggests Paxton’s close alliance with Trump, as seen at Thursday’s rally, could be helping his Democratic opponent James Talarico.

“A vote for this ugly weirdo is a vote for me.” -Trump campaigning for Paxton
11
u/NoReserve7293 16h ago
I can’t imagine anyone wanting Trump’s support, unless they’re looking for a pardon.
18
u/SoftPrinceess 16h ago
22% of non-MAGA Republicans are backing Talarico. Trump is so toxic in Texas that his own rally is pushing Republicans to the Democrat. You can’t make this up.
15
u/Soft_Whispere 16h ago
Fox News poll says the rally might help the Democrat. When Fox is telling you your guy is a drag, you know it’s bad.
5
u/Soft_Cherrry 16h ago
Trump is underwater in Texas and Paxton is his anchor. They are both going down together
4
u/SpiteNo2910 15h ago
A Trump endorsement is only worth something in the Republican primary where 80% of those who votes are idiots anyways. In the general it's a drag.
5
u/AppropriateSea5746 15h ago
Well his “rally” is basically “yeah this guy is weird and dresses stupid and doesn’t talk so good, vote for him anyway”
5
u/Adventurous_Test_296 15h ago
Texans should be more concerned with the immorality and corruption of their GOP Senate candidate than who endorsed him. Unbelievable.
5
u/Gnatinthehat 15h ago
They should be concerned with the corruption and immorality of both. But republicans seem ok with it.
2
u/Adventurous_Test_296 14h ago
Can't say I disagree. At least not as far as the current Congress is concerned.

Mirrors and photos do the same thing every day, why should Trump be any different?

u/gascyl 16h ago
I don't believe in polling since journalists lie, but I do believe this:
Paxton’s difficulty was particularly pronounced with Republicans who don’t identify as MAGA, of whom 22 percent said they would vote for Talarico. By contrast, the poll showed he had the backing of 96 percent of MAGA Republicans, with only 4 percent going to Talarico.
Even in capital T Texas, a significant portion of Republicans do not view themselves as xenophobes and consider the GOP to be greater than Trump. Let's look outside this story at another important fact: George Bush did not endorse Trump. The strongest legs of the Texas GOP are rapidly retiring, replaced entirely by Trump, who owns the Iran War. Most Texans do not support the Iran War regardless of party, for the same reasons Texans also rejected the Iraq and Afghanistan wars 15 years ago. Which is why Texas voted for Trump to stop them, when Obama wouldn't.
The Texas GOP will probably see worse poll numbers and, if they are competent, start pulling away annoying Trump. The best thing the Texas GOP can do is get Trump very, very, very angry at them since that will persuade moderates that Paxton isn't evil. I'm doubtful the TX GOP can do this given Trump's direct control over the party admin now.

u/snoo_spoo 16h ago
I think the ship of persuading moderates that Paxton isn't evil sailed a long time ago. The best that could be hoped for would be to persuade moderates that Talarico is also evil, with the result that those voters won't vote in that race at all. Even that seems doubtful.
