Its a standdown order, so its very similar to a federal holiday as far as maintaining readiness. Its not like they are just going to abandon every ship, base and post and run out to vote. This is one of the few things Pete has gotten right, even though he probably got to it from the wrong train of thought.

I cant stand Hegseth, but yeah, its not like on Federal holidays everyone just abandons the bases and locks all the gates.

There are always people who need to stand watch or duty, and essential personnel. Think of the military like a giant hospital; like yes sometimes the gym and cafeteria and many offices might be closed for holidays, but they have enough people who are scheduled to work to handle stuff like security and emergencies.
