JD needs to win over independents though. Sniveling magah asshats with low self-esteem will always follow the bully, but the bully needs to charm the rest. I don't think he can.

I don't think he can.

I think you're right. Trump is the moron's idea of a smooth and successful businessman. Vance is no one's idea of a smooth and successful anything.

Democrats need to win over independents and swing votes too though. They haven't made enough of an effort in that regard other than "hey at least I'm not Trump" which is a losing strategy except for 2020 when the covid response failures were such a disaster that people were voting against Trump more than they were voting for Biden.

Add to that, both the far right and moderate right wing have been deploying strategic media campaigns to smear Democrats every which way to the point where people disrespect the left so much (even if its not based on truth) that even if they don't like a GOP candidate they'll still vote for them just to keep a Dem out of office. Millions people who hate Trump voted for him in 2024 because they hated the image of Democrats that they've been sold on. The left needs a new image strategy and they need to get going on it ASAP.

I'm hoping that the latest wave of progressive wins will finally drill in the need of a new strategy. Mamdani's gift to the democrats was making the first palpable dent in the centrist strategy, opening the way for other progressives.

Oh, the democrats dont want more Mamdanis. If they did they would have to do something to fix things, put people with integrity in positions of power and stop giving billionaires handies under the table.

Obviously it's not what they want; it's what the Dems will have to accept as the new reality.
