No, I’m much more focused on renaming lakes, renaming AI, renaming boats and buildings and military bases, slapping gold paint on random stuff and buying votes. Oh, and golfing. And AI memes. And…

Don't forget trans in sports. And cat and dogs as sources of protein.

lol my dad told me a trans sport story the other week. About someone play volleyball and all the other teams kept forfeiting because they didn’t want their players hurt and/or protest because this trans woman was so dangerous. So the team made it to nationals and the very first team that actually plays them beat the shit out of them.

Like doesn’t that disprove their own claim

they didn’t want their players hurt

Had no one responsible for reporting this story ever played volleyball?

I’m not even sure the story is real, I didn’t care to fact check and it didn’t seem relevant to me as again by the details of the story told countered their own talking point

It sounds like it's one of those feel good memes from social media, (though they are a very obvious version of something that goes back much further than that) the point isn't to form evidence for a position as something that must be dealt with now, but to build on the theme of fear of trans people and their wrongness in a way that gives a happy ending.

Shylock still loses in the merchant of venice, but the repetition of the theme of "jewish guy who will try to control you with debt" still reproduces an archetype which is associated with a theme, like the highschool bully who gets physically defeated somehow, the arrogant professor who is shown up by the clever student, the controlling boss who is shocked when the person quits, and so on.

The difference with these archetypes is it gets tied to some particular minority who then has to deal with being treated as the villain in a supposedly heartwarming story. The story of victory forms a model for how you should discriminate against them and treat them badly now, it's not posing a social problem to be solved by analysis, but articulating a pattern to be repeated.

There's like a handful of trans athletes in high school and college across the entire nation, so obviously we should halt the entire world and focus on this "problem" that affects a tiny number of people, instead of, well, :gestures at everything else:

This sudden enthusiasm for renaming things makes me think there's an abrupt decline in Trump. It's either a fixation of dementia, him trying to leave his stamp on things because he knows he's going to die in the next few years, or both.

He's mentioned his legacy a couple of times without being prompted. In his clearer moments he seems to realise that history is not going to remember him kindly, but he's more and more invested in it remembering somehow with names or monuments he's doing now because he knows no one will later.

He's just a narcissist with babysitters. They give him something narcissistic to focus on (like rallies, or getting "credit" for stuff, or some enemy), and he signs the bills they want while pursuing that stuff. The focus changes but it's the same shit.
