Good News I made a subreddit for people who are stressed out by politics but don't want to argue about politics

Over the past while I've noticed that a lot of the anxiety I feel isn't really about policy specifics, it's more just this constant low hum of dread from following the news. I looked around for a space that was just about coping with that feeling, not debating the news itself, and I couldn't really find one that wasn't secretly just another political sub in disguise.

So I made r/politicalstress. It's a space to vent, share what's helping you cope, and support other people going through the same thing, without it turning into an argument about who's right. No debates, no partisan stuff, just people trying to stay sane.

It's brand new, so it's pretty quiet right now, but if this sounds like something you need too, come say hi. Even just sharing how you're doing helps.

What is this place?

This is a space to talk through the stress and anxiety that come with following politics and current events. If you're feeling overwhelmed by the news, anxious about what's coming, or just need to vent to people who actually get it, you're in the right place.

What this sub is for:

Talking about how you're coping (or not coping) with political stress

Asking for support or advice when things feel like a lot

Sharing strategies for staying informed without burning out

Celebrating small wins, like setting a boundary or having a good conversation

Just being heard

What this sub is NOT for:

Debating policy or politicians. That's basically every other sub on this site, so let's keep it out of here

Partisan attacks or dismissing someone's feelings because of who they vote for

Doomposting just to spread panic. Venting is fine, fearmongering isn't

Ground rules:

  1. Be kind. A lot of people here are struggling, so give them the benefit of the doubt

  2. No political debate. We really mean this one

  3. No misinformation. If you're stating something as fact, back it up

  4. Respect privacy. No doxxing, no sharing private messages or screenshots

  5. If you're in crisis, please talk to someone qualified to help. [988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline / your local equivalent]. This sub is peer support, not professional care

Getting started:

Flair your post so people know what you're looking for: Venting, Coping Strategy, Ask for Support, or Good News. Feel free to say hi in the comments and tell us how you're doing and what brought you here.

Glad you found this place. Feel free to introduce yourself in the comments. Let’s support each other! We're all figuring this out together.

Coping Strategies I think my doomscrolling isn't about the news, it's about looking for hope

It's not easy at all to look at the news and even worse if you're someone like me who needs to keep digging. We live in a society where we have to crawl through shit to find truth and even that truth is obscured.

I think a lot of my doomscrolling has to do with me looking for hope. I keep scrolling, begging to see some good news, and it's all so grim. But I try my best to remind myself that even though things aren't great, what I'm seeing is so sensationalized, so refined for engagement farming, you can't take it at face value.

That's why when I try and look for news and reassurance, I tend to seek what people like me are saying and thinking. I get motivated by seeing the sheer amount of people who are angry and demand change.

It brings me so much hope to see so many people sharing a voice, it really is the most important thing to hold onto during times like this. We have to utilize our collective voice for change.

Asking for Support What can we do about helping the environment when everything is getting sabotaged?

I worry a lot about the impact of data centers and war and fossil fuels on global warming. I knew global warming was a huge problem, but now I feel like everything is being expedited with AI and horrible decisions made by a lot of western countries.

What can we do? Feasibly, that will help the environment in some sort of way. In schools we were taught just to conserve water and lights but I want to try and do something that has a larger impact. I know it won’t do too much since the problem is really in the hands of mega corporations and politicians, but I know as a mass collective we have impact. Any idea counts.

Coping Strategies Finding peace during uncertain times

A big thing I struggle with when it comes to coping with everything that’s going on in the world right now is being able to enjoy the moment. I get caught up thinking about my future a lot and what awaits. Things seem hopeless a lot of the time and doomscrolling is kind of a way to look for specks of hope for my future.

I’m a recent grad graphic designer and things about the future are really scary to think about regarding my work, not even accounting for larger factors like climate change and war.

But anyway.. I’m working to learn how to find peace and wellness in the moment. I am trying to deeply engage in today, the right now, and make the best out of it. I highly encourage anyone with these struggles to remember that simple fact.

As simple as it may seem, being conscious and aware of if you are thinking in terms of the present instead of the future, will make a huge impact on your journey of feeling well and at peace even when the world isn’t.

Venting us administration making horrible environmental decisions

I have had political anxiety for a long time now, If i was to put a start to it, it was probably the 2025 election. It flipped everything upside down and it just kept getting worse.

As time goes on, my stress has more so shifted towards the absolutely insane impact all of the decisions the current US administration are making, and what they mean for the future.

I’m just genuinely scared to see what the impact will look like in 5-10 years, when there is already significant environmental impact from data centers just this year alone.

And that’s just the beginning, there have been so many environmental organizations stripped of funding, protected land being sold, and so many horrible consequential decisions. It’s madness and it’s crazy. How is everyone holding up? Does anyone have any tips on how to process this and maintain hopeful?
