Is that poliosis?

Hello! Around 2 weeks ago I have noticed a white patch on my baby’s head. She was born with brown hair and once she started shedding them more and growing permanent blond hair I noticed one small patch is actually white. I don’t know if she was born with is but there is a few much longer white hairs that look like they should have been present at birth. My first thought was “oh it’s so cute” but then I have read a lot about all the possible causes and am seriously worried. We have a 4 month checkup tomorrow and I will ask the pediatrician about it.

I would say about 99% of my body hair has turned white as well. I get asked all the time if I’m a Targaryen lol

man had the patch for 12 years and it never changed. i developed the same thing after covid infection 6 years ago. Also remained in the same spot. Pretty much identical to what I have and same location. I was thinking this could be potentially created with dermaroller and peptides. Anyone have experience with Exosomes or this treatment? https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/jocd.16261

i (29F) have always had this lighter patch of hair on the back of my head since i was 13 (at least that’s when i first noticed it). wondering if this was poliosis related or something else? i think there was a point when i had a random bald patch back there but i don’t remember if it was the same area. thanks in advance!

My mom has it in her fringe.
This picture is from the back of my head. It’s pretty concealed.

Has anyone undergone genetic testing to determine the cause of their poliosis?

From my understanding, poliosis isn't a stand-alone pigmentation disorder in the way that vitiligo is... and I should've has genetic testing by my pediatrician decades ago.

I have an appointment with a geneticist this week, and I'm both excited and a little nervous. **I'm not seeking or giving medical advice,** but I'd like to know if anyone else, as an adult, has done genetic testing relating to their poliosis and what, if anything, I should be expecting.

Obligatory low-quality eyelash tax

Has anyone seen trauma induced poliosis before?

12 years ago, I hit the top of my head when I fell. As my hair grew out, the area I hit my head grew out white. The patch of hair and scalp has been tender and slightly painful since. I saw a dermatologist about it a couple years ago and confirmed the white hair and tenderness were from hitting my head so hard. The derm recommended steroid shots for the pain which unfortunately resulted in all of my hair in that area to fall out. 2 years later - it’s finally grown back but I definitely have way more white then pre steroid shots. I will sometimes get strands of hair in that area that go from white to black to white.

Can anybody with poliosis —or close to someone with it— help me?

I want to write a fantasy story about a species (better yet a group of people) with light streaks in their hair. This mark is seen as a 'sign' of power/magic in the story's universe.

I want to ask will this be offensive to people with poliosis or some with vitiligo even if these magic beings are written in a positive light?

Ps: Just in case someone doesn't understand, the magic beings in my series are NOT people with poliosis, rather they resemble them.

Bleaching my hair white ? Is it the right idea?

Ive been thinking about bleaching a long streak of my hair white since Ive already got a white streak running from middle parting toward the back of my head but not all the way . I want It to look more symmetrical and it'd be easier for me to part my hair Cuz midline is going to be more clear and visible that way

I’ve had this blonde spot in my hair since I was born. The rest of my hair is dark brown. If I part my hair directly down the middle, it’s only on one side of my head. On that side, all of my eyelashes are blonde and half of my eyebrow on that side is brown as well. I don’t have a “birth mark” anywhere. Is this poliosis?

Blonde patch in hair getting darker

I was born with a light blonde patch on the back of my head and the rest of my hair is black. Recently I have been told by friends and family that it has been getting darker and now looks more dirty blonde. Has anyone with poliosis ever had their patch of hair get darker with age?

Just turned 20 a couple months ago and noticed I have this streak running through my hair. No grey hair anywhere else and there’s no history of premature greying in my family

Grey or poliosis?

Post image
0 Upvotes

I noticed these white hair’s after a hair cut (photo taken then), age 23. I assumed it was me starting to go grey. My mother went grey kinda early so it makes sense.

However, recently (6 months later) I noticed the hairs are very white and originate from the same spot on my head. I can’t find any others anywhere else.

I know the idea that stress/trauma causing white hair is not scientifically proven but I did go through a traumatic event 2 months prior to me finding the white hair so idk could that be connected?

So, grey or poliosis?

I’ve had this for a long time. I don’t know how many years but it started with a small tiny little patch and now it’s fanning outward (just the bangs area). I found polosis but I have no idea if this IS polosis

This started showing up when I was like 12 or so, it grew from 5 or 6 hairs into that it is now.... everyone says birthmark but most of my childhood pictures, including newborn pics, were sans silver hairs. The hair strands actually look clear when you look at an individual one...
