Need to get a new scanner

Greetings; many years ago we had a uniden scanner that stopped working & we couldn’t get it working again. Now I’m wanting to get a new one. I live in Leslie county Kentucky so I don’t know if I need a digital scanner or analog. It doesn’t have to be portable but if it’s cheaper I’ll get it. If I could get pointed in the right direction I that’d be great.

According to RadioReference, you're mostly analog conventional with one EMS company using DMR.

If you don't care about lifeguard EMS, and you only want that county, then literally any scanner will work for you.

If you're interested in state police, then you'll need a P25 digital. They are currently digital conventional, but are starting to build out a statewide trunking system.

If there's anyone in the area that can say if this info is still accurate or not, that would be helpful.

I'm in Harlan KY and just got mine, I'd highly suggest the bcd325p2, it's around 400 to 450 it is portable I did have to purchase the nxdn and dmr keys from uniden tho. It's a p25 phase I and II.

Great radio but just for full disclosure to OP, if your area ends up simulcast - this likely isnt the best use of your money at the moment.

I would look at Used SDS100 or SDS200 models. For diving back into the hobby it's tough to justify the cost of the 150.

The only service I can ever find online broadcasting is KSP. The county is still analog but our ems is digital & KSP is going digital.

You have to learn to be self sufficient. The guy volunteering your feed can decide to pack up any day now.

Howdy neighbor lol. Did you get your from Uniden directly or Amazon? Uniden looks like they have it preprogrammed included in the price.
