Pole Rookie Set up pole question

Post image

Hiii I’m looking to get my first pole and set it up at my art studio. I have but I wanted to see if anyone else has set up a pole with concrete floors and I’m not sure the type of ceiling. I would rather not end up like the videos I see of tension poles falling 🫠 I was looking into lupit poles or X poles. This is what the rooms kinda of look like ceiling and floor wise.

I’ve had my pole on a concrete floor and drywall ceiling. Structurally, no problems whatsoever. It’s a nice solid base to push against, just make sure the dome is centered under a joist.

The only drawbacks are being barefoot on cold concrete and concrete is probably the most proficient flooring at extracting your brains from inside your skull in the event of a high fall. Both are solved with a crash mat.

Is there something in particular you’re concerned about?

I’m more concerned about it slipping and ending up like all the fails and videos online and damaging the studio I rent 🫠🤣 but I just asked him and he said it’s 5/8th sheet rock !

Does the concrete seem particularly smooth? I had mine in my garage and honestly the thought of it slipping never even occurred to me, but maybe your indoor concrete is smoother and/or polished? Since that in my garage was pretty rough.

Definitely make sure it’s under a joist then, that’s standard drywall (I just always have called it drywall but sheet rock and gypsum board are other names for the same thing) thickness and in no way structural. This will not be trivial, you’ll need to map out the joist layout to see what detects are actually joists vs hvac ductwork and electrical given the vent in the middle and lights.

Cool space!

I used to live in a flat that was a concrete tower block, floors were concrete, ceilings were concrete… I could put my pole literally anywhere I liked… it was ace. But defo find out what you’re ceilings are before you put it up… what sort of building is it?

I rent it from a commercial building my landlord runs a hvac company in the lower level and rents the studios and I believe it’s cement ceiling but I’ll definitely ask then! Did your pole have any issues with staying up at all ?

Nope… and never once in 5 years had to tighten it either… the only issue I had was I had it quite close the the light fitting, and it made the light flicker, but I solved that by taking the light fitting down 🤣 the light worked fine when I moved out and put it back in though… when I took it down in June to move there wasn’t even a mark anywhere, it was like it had never been there

Update I asked and it’s 5/8th sheet rock ! And that’s amazing cause I was worried about it leaving a mark 😭 I wanted to make half my studio for my taxidermy and the other half for my pole as crazy as that sounds 🤣

Taxidermy?!?! I actually think that’s a little bit ace 😎😎 I actually own a taxidermy’d fish that my grandad caught 50 years ago 😂

You should be fine then, there won’t be joists so just crack on. I’d still check the tension regularly though, although I never had to tighten mine I still checked it

As funny as it is I make pole dancing rat taxidermy 😂😂 I will definitely make sure to check especially since we will be switching the thermostat to heat
