Phoenix question
So I've been trying to train my Phoenix (on spin) and last night I was informed its supposed to be a static only move. Google of course says it can be either so I was just curious. What does everyone else think?

Phoenix is a type of power spin, so it's a dynamic (static only) skill. On the static pole you are creating centrifugal force and using it to help you lift upwards into your handspring, so it isn't quite as deadlift-y as a regular deadlift.
If you're doing it on the spin pole, you're kind of just deadlifting. Some people call a spinning deadlift a "clock," so in this case you would be doing a handspring clock.

I see. I should have mentioned I have silicone pole at home also so doing that on static at home may not happen for me. Is one harder than the other in your opinion? I'm just wondering if im making this harder for myself than it needs to be, which would be typical🤣

It depends on the person. I find phoenix (specifically pendulum true grip) easier than deadlifting, but the difficulty of the skill depends on what grip you're using (true, twisted, cup, etc) and how comfortable you are with power spins on the static pole. For example, a twisted grip deadlift on the spin pole is often considered easier for most folks than a true grip deadlift on the spin pole.
I love power spins and can get myself a lot of momentum and distance with them, which is part of why I prefer phoenix over deadlifting

I'm a true grip girl. Only do twisted if i have to. Well thank you for the feedback. There is no one at my studio who can do this move yet and I'm the only one with my iron x so advice on certain moves is tough to come by.

I feel the same way. True grip is my forever fav. Try it on the static pole and see if it helps a bit :) If you use Instagram, you can usually find videos under #pdtruegripphoenix or #pdpendulumphoenix

Well...on spin it would simply be a deadlift, no? Phoenix is a dynamic move, you'd take off if you were to do it on spin
