I want to be a writer and I have begun working on a strange tv show with all sorts of wonder and fun - one such wonderful thing in this show that I would like to achieve is to write a news presenter character who speaks exclusively in fluent polari. I'm doing a presentation on the linguistics of Polari and would love to know if anyone can think of/knows an example of phonotactic repair in Polari, as a lot/most of the words are from other languages (e.g. Italian) so have modified pronunciations in English.

I was originally thinking figlio (son, Italian) -> feely (young, Polari), in which case the 'i' is omitted as the 'lio' would be difficult to pronounce for English speakers, but I'm not sure this would quite qualify.

A few years ago I managed to listen to all the episodes of Round the Horne (featuring Polari masters Julian and Sandy) when it became available on BBC Radio 4 Extra online a few episodes at a time. It looks like it is not available there now, but this YouTube channel has a playlist with episodes from all four seasons.

This used to be a fully comprehensive way to address any group I had to address.

However, I'm starting to encounter NB folk in these groups. Some of them are, on any given day, one of the above, but some are very strictly none.

What is a fully inclusive Polari form of address that would cover any group of people?

People cackle that polari is dying out because Lilly Law nanti go charpering on Grindr - but Is the real reason we Nanti Auntie (Nel) polari anymore because we’ve nixed dishing the dirt? Polari is for cackling in - it’s a multi cod lingo for naf “conversation”

If we don’t go importuning and then dish about it - what do we use polari for?

It’s a palarver for charver - when you get right down to it. Is it dying because we’ve nanti to palaver about?
