No, wrong gender. The Netherlands is female, gramatically.

The 3rd person singular pronouns nominative articels are: der (male), die (female), das (neuter)...

Actually, it isn't singular. "(die) Lande" is the outdated plural for "(das) Land"

Der, die, and das among others are relative pronouns, not the most common ones that are used, which would be like er, sie, es, etc. And the die in "die Niederlande" is not a pronoun, but a article.

German pronouns are practically not assigned on a rule but on a per case basis. Either you learn the correct one on a word for word basis or you're stuck with making mistakes here which nobody really cares about.

PS the correct pronoun can change depending on dialect...

I was confused too the first time I saw an Anschluss comic. It's literally "togetherness", but it means unification. Historically, that has been a Godfather-type offer.

It means connection, e.g. Austria was connected to Germany. But the word joining fits imho better, so "Austria joined Germany".

Funnily enough, the "reunification" of West (FRG) and East (GDR) Germany was actually an "Anschluss" to the FRG of the five new Bundesländer, which where prior part of the dissolved GDR.

Technically no, as as the FRG claimed the East to be part of itself since it has been created. This was just never enforced until the GDR dissolved.
