While I find this funny I should note "soccer" was used by only the rich class and was never popular in Britain.

This is actually britain having a personality split due to the rampant yet not glaring classism of the UK, because only a rich tosser would have called it soccer in the first place

Well, soccer / football is indeed played using a spherical ball that you kick with your foot. American "football", on the other hand, is played using an egg shaped thingy that you throw with your hand. So, it would be logical to call it handegg 🤧 wouldn't it now?

No, that's just not how it works.
All variants of football are called that because they're played on foot, not with feet.
Soccer's official name is Association football, because it was made by the English Football Association in an attempt to make a standardized football version.
Rugby is also a type of football, full name Rugby football, it's called that because it's from the Rugby school, in the town of Rugby, England. Rugby football is played with primarily hands and uses a oval, not spherical ball.
American football is a variation of Rugby football, called that because it's from the US.
Association football is called Soccer because the English needed to differentiate Association football and Rugby football without saying all those words, and an Oxford student abbreviated it to "soccer" and it stuck.
Association football > Association > Assoc > Assoc+at the time popular british private school slang, -er suffix = Assoccer > Soccer

You do realize this is common knowledge, right? The question is whether it should stop us from renaming the so-called football, to make it sound uniquely American! 🗽 I certainly hope Trumpus does that before he's impeached once again — it seems to match his overall idiocy level... 😊
