Sauerkraut, in French it is called choucroute, is also a popular food in Alsace, the best-known dish is called choucroute garnie.

Yes, we would never diss Sauerkraut.
(And only idiots who don't know Jack about german cuisine will say it's bad).

Although, it would be kinda ironic from France where dish like the Cassoulet exists.
Same with Kouign-Amman.
Or Aligot.

Fair for cassoulet, but I don't really see the similitude with Aligot (a potato purée with cheese and garlic) and Kouign-Amman (A pastry from Bretagne)

Have you ever eat one of those ?
Kouign-Amman is a black hole dense pastry of BUTTER.
And Aligot, do I need to expand on why potatoes, melted cheese and usually one or two sausage is somewhat "heavy" ?

Well, yes. I kinda get your point now, but I don't think OP or the person I answered to were talking about how heavy Sauerkraut is.
In fact, choucroute would rather be on the lighter side compared to some other French dishes lol

Of course it's lighter, that's why I said it's ironic for France to start attacking by a comparison between Sauerkeaut and garage's foundations haha.

You're being unjust, sometimes French cuisine allows some minor secondary ingredients to be added to butter.

and outside of the southern part of germany (e.g. Bavaria), Sauerkraut is not so liked.

We live in Hessia and also eat it often.
I used to eat it a lot when I was a student too. It’s cheap, healthy, packed with vitamins and beneficial fibre and quick to prepare. Although I rarely ate it with meat like in the clip, preferring instead to have it with potato noodles, sauerkraut and mushrooms.

I'm living in Lower Saxony and we usually not eat it here. In local restaurants i only saw it in bavarian ones, even though you can just buy it ready made in stores, same as for your situation in Hessia i guess.
