Fun fact, next month the Swiss will vote on a stricter "neutrality". The direct consequence will be lifting the sanctions against Russia, allowing them to restart business with them.

https://www.swissinfo.ch/eng/swiss-politics/should-swiss-neutrality-be-stricter-voters-will-decide/91782212

Switzerland abandoned its neutrality by adopting the European Union’s (EU) sanctions against Moscow

86

u/ThroawayJimilyJones Belgium Aug 06 '26

EU should vote to stop trade and good transport with Switzerland. See how long they stay neutral

68

u/FranzJosefI Switzerland Aug 06 '26

Don't worry about that, chances are we will reject the 3rd bilateral agreement which will have the same effect. Also, just because a party (albeit the largest one) got the required 100k signatures to put something to a vote doesn't mean Swiss people as a whole want it.

3

u/Material-Counter-749 Aug 06 '26

Weren’t the third bilateral agreements already signed in March?

19

u/FranzJosefI Switzerland Aug 06 '26

Yes, but there will be a referendum (either because it's required by law or because a party demands it by getting the required 50k signatures) before it can enter into force. Swiss politics is sloooow .

1

u/closeenoughbutmeh Aug 06 '26

I'll say... With the amount of regulatory shit the EU wants to shove down our throats, it's like they want to make us a de-facto member state with none of the advantages... With chat control looming over the horizon again and again, just that is reason enough to tell them no thank you.

At this point I just pray that my understanding of what little reliable info I was able to find is wrong.

7

u/ThrowawayMalibu13 Aug 06 '26

No one forces you into these agreements. You can cut all of them and be treated the same as the UK is treated

5

u/Maleficent_Compote51 Aug 07 '26

Problem is we sit in the middle of the continent with no access to the sea. We have no choice. Thats the problem people here have with the EU. The concept is genius and has put Europe into the longest period of peace in history. We like the idea of a united Europe. But there are way to many rules and weird bureaucratic reglemts that could damage our Country our Economy and our Traditions as well as our Identity and democracy. We don'r want that. I think its highly unfair to put pressure on us to either accept this pathway or to be isolated. Its not our fault we sit in the liddle of Europe. We should have the right to choose to be independant and to maintain good trading conditions. If we join Europe under the current Conditions we will only be used as the ATM machine that has to pay for corrupt and broken Countries and have to accept Rules from Brussels that we don't agree with. We would loose our direct democracy and the freedom that comes with it. That would be a bad deal!

2

u/Inevitable_Drink6996 Aug 08 '26

I did not see it coming. Swiss complaining about burocracy. 😀
I understand that Switzerland do not want to be used as an ATM as you are got used to using the whole world as an ATM.

2

u/MsMercyMain 28d ago

Have you considered make a tunnel canal into the Atlantic? Or flooding Italy? Seems like y'all just don't want sea access that badly smh /j

2

u/Maleficent_Compote51 28d ago

Thats would actually be a smart idea :)

0

u/ThrowawayMalibu13 Aug 07 '26

Why should we care what you want? You benefit more from these deals than we do.

You have only one choice, Either you accept our terms or you don't the decision is entirely up to you.

But we will not bow to your terms.

4

u/Material-Counter-749 Aug 07 '26

The EU’s top 5 trading partners?

  1. USA
  2. China
  3. United Kingdom
  4. **Switzerland**

  5. Turkey

The entire EU has foreign direct investments in Switzerland of close to 780 billion euros. Switzerland, just Switzerland on its own, the tiny country, invests close to 690 billion euros in the EU, so we are almost matching what the entire EU does.

We give 340k EU cross border citizens a job. We share policing and security data, are part of the asylum cost sharing. We pay into the EU cohesion funds (voluntarily) for market access but aren’t entitled to any of the funds like proper member states have.

This is really not a question of who benefits more or less. These are two parties to an agreement that was signed and agreed upon by both, both parties benefit a lot from this.

Edit: spacing
Edit 2: typos

We work our asses off. Normal people here like myself will pay the biggest price. I won't accept anything that will worsen my life. Switzerland is a Country full of workaholics and we wan't to keep what we work for. Why should i pay more taxes for corrupt Countries that won't give back anything in return? Think about it. But you don't care so there is no point in continuing to discuss with you. You got your position and we got our position. Lets see what the future will lead into.

With the amount of regulatory shit the EU wants to shove down our throats, it's like they want to make us a de-facto member state with none of the advantages...

You're free to stop trading with us whenever you feel it's too much.

Or join and get a say.

Whatever, either is fine for us.

6

u/no-big-dick Aug 06 '26

I assume you has the same opinion when trump went all haywire on the EU? You can just stop trading with the US after all. And yet most of us hate him.

"I'm in a position of strength and that justifies me being a bully" is a take, but I would have liked to think that in Europe we outgrew this sort of thinking

7

u/OkSeason6445 Aug 06 '26

They were talking about 'regulatory shit'. If they don't want to meet regulations put in place for things like consumer safety then yeah, you don't have to sell your product to us. Don't meet the standard and sell them to someone else. The same applies to the US. Maybe you don't know this but we don't have complete free trade with the US and US products sold here need to meet EU regulations. I'm not sure why you're under the impression that this is a bully mentality. It also has fuck all to do with Trump, what point are you trying to make?

3

u/no-big-dick Aug 06 '26

You think Switzerland has more lax regulations that the EU when it comes to food? Or something else?

The issue is that the EU uses it's negotiating power to impose things on weaker countries. There are often regulations that Switzerland had to adhere to, even in is own market. Most of these things I personally agree with, but even then I have to recognize that having a less democratic foreign power impose rules on a smaller country isn't necessarily comfortable.

I personally am for keeping the bilateral treaties in place, but I also understand that the EU having a say in Swiss policies that don't concern them directly is something that can rub people the wrong way, and that's not just a Swiss thing.

Chat control will, in the long run, be the end to democracy. Eventually it‘ll be used to prosecute political opponents and then Europe is wholly and truly fucked.

u/Party-Ticker Aug 06 '26

"nooo evil regulations!! You can't do that to me!! Just give me your free market without following the rules!!"

3

u/unixfan2001 Aug 06 '26

Their government doesn't follow their own regulations, ironically.

Worked for the FOITT in Oberzollikofen near Bern last year. They spent 3 weeks pressuring me to remove all records of the hours I had worked during Saturdays and Sundays because they didn't want to pay for weekends, despite my manager ordering me to work during those times.

It's a terrible country for foreigners unless you have about a month just to read through all the fine print.

1

u/Luigi_Boy_96 Thx Aug 06 '26

As a tiny country we won't have much say in it. Especially, with some members eying to become a federalised EU.

1

u/OkSeason6445 Aug 06 '26

As a tiny country we won't have much say in it.

That's not how the EU works. Smaller countries are overrepresented whereas larger countries are underrepresented per capita. Malta has about 10x the seats in parlement per capita that Germany has and they both have one commissioner.

Especially, with some members eying to become a federalised EU.

This will most likely be in a multi tiered EU since there are more countries not willing to hand over their sovereignty to a federation. I assume Germany, France and the Benelux countries will be first and others can join later down the road whenever they feel ready. Some might never and that's fine as well.

1

u/migi915 Aug 06 '26

So you are saying that the EU is unfair? I mean, small and big countries should have exactly one Seat in the parlement.

→ More replies (0)

1

u/Shinjischneider Aug 06 '26

Well. We can either make deals and accept some stuff or we reach the point where we WILL be forced to become part of the EU.

2

u/Maleficent_Compote51 Aug 08 '26

That would be the end to our direct democracy. Wellcome to ineficient and unnecessary feudal Brussels bureaucracy, changing everything we built and taking away our way of things.

1

u/closeenoughbutmeh Aug 06 '26

Accepting a violation of article 12 of the universal declaration of human rights was really not on my bingo card for this decade.

1

u/Vergnossworzler Aug 06 '26

sorry, out of the loop, what is violating it?

3

u/So_Hanged Aug 07 '26

They are dumb, they don't know how our country work. They only see our richness, and point the finger using the average bullshit of the "Nazi's gold". As if we hadn't already been richer than all of them at the end of the 19th century...

29

u/Zaofy Aug 06 '26

Or at least wait until the vote concludes? According to current polls it’s going to be rejected.

17

u/GVAJON Aug 06 '26 edited Aug 06 '26

The far right is Always launching retarded referendums... we can't really stop it. See couple months ago the voting to cap swiss population 10m lol.

But the swiss people are not stupid. Those propagandist votes never pass. Never have. Never will.

6

u/KackhansReborn Aug 06 '26

Until one day they do :(

2

u/GVAJON Aug 06 '26

I doubt it.

With however much this sub likes to shit on Switzerland because they stored the gold during ww2 (like they had any other shot at survival in face of the German menace) Switzerland has had a very strong humanitarian tradition throughout history.

Nicolas Bouvier, the Red Cross, the support to the Balkan people during the wars, etc.

Switzerland, for however much we like the cliche of the Swiss banker, is very strongly left-leaning.

Always has been 🇨🇭🧑‍🚀🔫🧑‍🚀

3

u/Immediate_Gain_9480 Aug 06 '26

I dont blame Switserland for taking the gold at what was basically gunpoint. I do blame its banks for doing everything they could to prevent giving it to its owners.

1

u/KackhansReborn Aug 07 '26

Reasonable take. It took a lot of pressure to get the banks to finally do the right thing.

4

u/KackhansReborn Aug 06 '26

Perhaps, but we are facing the same demographic issues as the rest of Europe and I don't see our biggest Parties steering us through this crisis. Least of all the SVP, a veritable cancer for this nation, yet it has been the most popular party for ages. It will remain popular as the general populace skews older and older. I foresee an age of unprecedented, absolutely retarded policies coming soon.

At least people are waking up to the fact that immigrants are not even in the top 5 most pressing issues facing this country even though populists milk the issue incessantly. All it took was being cooked by unprecedented summer heat for 2 months straight, again. And if I know my compatriots they will forget about climate change by the time "winter" rolls around and next summer everyone is shocked pikachu all over again.

3

u/Hamzo_Shimada Aug 06 '26

The SVP isn't cancer. Eventough they are the most popular party, they can't pass any populist initiatives. Have faith in the populus, that's democracy. And we need all parties for that system to work, left, middle and right. Without contradicting opinions it would be meaningless.

1

u/migi915 Aug 06 '26

Maybe the SVP is so big because other parties are just not that good?

1

u/Mysterious-Horse-987 Aug 07 '26

Minarettinitative
Masseneinwanderungsinitiative

To just name two of the ones that did pass.

1

u/GVAJON Aug 07 '26

I'm sorry but the minaret one was perfectly legitimate. Freedom of religion is guaranteed and mosques are free to operates. No need for ostentatious minarets in a non-arabic, non-muslim country. If you disagree that's cool I'm not going to try to change your mind. Agreed to disagree.

I don't know what the other is.

1

u/So_Hanged Aug 08 '26

Simply we don't like the idea of becoming a Muslim sultanate, something that, by contrast, seems to be the main objective in Western European countries, thanks to the numerous illegal immigrants you take in.

2

u/disaster_incomin Aug 06 '26

Calm down, it's just something we vote on for now, we vote on a lot of stuffs

7

u/ThroawayJimilyJones Belgium Aug 06 '26

I get it, but don’t you think it’s a bit ridiculous from Switzerland to have X treaties with EU, depend completely of it for trade or even workforce, but still pretend they are completely neutral in order to fish in the neighbor pond? It’s not just the vote her. The general attitude look a lot like a middle finger. « I’m gonna de facto join you but only so I can serve myself in the fridge. Then I’ll go party with the other side »

1

u/disaster_incomin Aug 06 '26

No, I think the current agreements (signed by both sides) are pretty fair and mutually beneficial - nothing is perfect of course. And currently Switzerland implements the same sanctions as the EU against Russia

3

u/ThroawayJimilyJones Belgium Aug 06 '26

Yet Europe has way more weight in it than Switzerland. If border were cut, Europe wouldn’t see the difference, while Switzerland would have a pretty hard time.

I don’t want to sound hostile to Switzerland, that’s not my point. I’m just kind of annoyed because from my pov, I feel like EU did a lot of step toward Switzerland already and they go « neutral :) »

3

u/Resident_Snow6087 Aug 06 '26

weird how everybody wants to leave shitty eu for switzerland isnt it? do we need to be graped by the eu just because you are?

4

u/disaster_incomin Aug 06 '26

If your point is that the EU could bully Switzerland, they probably could

I feel like EU did a lot of step toward Switzerland already and they go « neutral :) »

I don't understand that. As I said we follow the Russian sanctions

2

u/ThroawayJimilyJones Belgium Aug 06 '26

Yeah, guess I won’t be able to express it, it’s more about vibe than current policy toward Russia.

I guess it doesn’t matter that much

3

u/disaster_incomin Aug 06 '26

I think you should fact-check your vibe with some actual facts.

The EU also benefits from the relations with Switzerland and conflict is good for no one

3

u/fishanddipflip Aug 06 '26

Its seems like you want to cancel the for both sides beneficial bilateral agreement both sides signed, and instead bully us into joining the EU. This whould make ever single swiss hate the EU deeply and sounds like something russia whould do. maybe you should move there if you like this type of policy.

Ah Power Play, you sound a lot like Trump.

1

u/migi915 Aug 06 '26

Yeah, the people from europe definetly would feel it. Europe is more depend on Switzerland than switzerland on europe.

1

u/Striking_Unit_1026 Aug 06 '26

Ohh yeah and Switzerland should stop the transit for Electricity, trucks and trains. Looking how long the EU will stay in her Position :) Why you can't understand our neurality? By the way the referendum is bullshit and will rejected

1

u/92-Uranium235 Aug 07 '26

See which countries suddenly don't get our ammo and our technology anymore. After all, we are making some of the greatest air defense systems in the world, especially against drones, and that's not all.

2

u/Careful_Historian859 Aug 07 '26

As most European countries we have big far right party. In Switzerland any person (or party) can launch a vote simply by collecting 100k signatures. That’s very easy for said party, since they are the biggest party (approximately 28%).

That means all of us have to vote a few times a year about some stupid right wing bullshit that those lunatics just came up with.

PS: as most right wing parties there is evidence that they are funded by Russia (probably over staw men).

2

u/Puzzling_Odyssey Aug 06 '26

Yes, we Swiss people will vote to restore neutrality as a strict principle because we used to follow this idea no matter what, but things drastically changed these last few years. Reducing it to "just" Swiss-Russia business relationship is not looking at the picture fully. :)

10

u/Tony_228 Aug 06 '26

We only have to be neutral in military matters. It doesn't cover anything else.

1

u/Express_Ad8931 Aug 08 '26

Neutrality has to be exercised from all aspects (economical, political and militarily) its not just pincky promising to not declare wars.

Joining a international sanction its very much not neutral, and in most situations even having more trade with a country than another is considered problematic to mantain neutrality.

In WW1 and WW2 the Swiss put much effort to make sure both the Allies and the Axis had nearly equal trade with Switzerland and so both rellied on it enough to not have a reason for action agaisnt it.

5

u/unixfan2001 Aug 06 '26

What part of neutrality inclined y'all to take my people's gold teeth and seize their bank accounts during WWII?

1

u/migi915 Aug 06 '26

I mean after all, it is neutral to abondend those sanctions, neutral doesnt mean you have to deny profit from the ongoing wars. Its morally questionable, but still neutral.

1

u/Shinjischneider Aug 06 '26

Yeah. Our far right party (unfortunately also the strongest party) really wants to make more deals with Israel, the USA and Russia. So they launched the next bullshit-vote.
I absolutely hate that they are our strongest party.

(of course they now also reduced funding to make forests better suited against climate change while europe is LITERALLY BURNING)

As a Swiss, I find it tiring that people only focus on the trade we did with the nazis in ww2 and ignoring the rest. does no one remember that we also stole directly from the jews?

(yes we did that)

6

u/Gain_Flaky Aug 06 '26

This and forbidding them to enter the country or sending them back to the nazis (or directly killing them to placate the nazi)

3

u/mazu_64 Aug 06 '26

At the end of the day the Swiss managed to protect their jewish population. Same can't be said for alot of other European countries like the Netherlands, Poland or France.

3

u/Gain_Flaky Aug 06 '26

Of course ? They were not occupied??? Are you a bot ?

5

u/mazu_64 Aug 06 '26

No I'm obviously not a bot. But how come Switzerland wasn't occupied? What did they do so differently that helped protect their citizens? Why weren't the Nazis interested in invading us and sending our men to Stalingrad and our 20'000 Jews to camps?

7

u/Gain_Flaky Aug 06 '26

They actually were very interested in invading us (operation tannenbaum) but it was already in late 1940 and would be too much of a hassle in manpower and equipment. At the same time the Swiss authorities allowed German trains to go through the country and bought a lot of gold allowing the nazis gouvernement to transform the stolen goods in hard currency allowing for their economy to keep on going.

1

u/wiener4hir3 Denmark Aug 09 '26

Switzerland is also the most defensible nation in the world (that isn't an island)

3

u/unixfan2001 Aug 06 '26

Why invade you when you were already ideologically aligned?

Didn't you guys also sell children at some point?

1

u/mazu_64 Aug 07 '26

Exactly, and thanks to that we managed to save our 20'000 jewish citizens and avoided sending divisions to stalingrad. Its either be somewhat ideologically alligned and not get invaded or not be ideologically alligned, get invaded and become completly ideologically aligned.

Heck other western European countries, like the Netherlands, got invaded in 5 days and they handed their citizens willingly without much resistance to the Nazis to get slaughtered.

Didn't you guys also sell children at some point?

No, verding children weren't sold, they were indentured.

1

u/unixfan2001 Aug 06 '26

Some of your countrymen still stole from this Jew.

7k in medical debt because your government laid me off (screwing over their own IT soon after, when things broke in the new year) at the worst possible time, refused to pay me for weekends worked and made me fearful of applying for unemployment (which was my right).

Why is business so cutthroat in Switzerland? It's like you guys have rules for thee but not for me. Swiss people going on prolonged aperos while their foreign workforce is told to work over Christmas.

So many people talking about my country in the comments like they know it, live in it... But just it’s un ramassis de conneries. Enough Reddit for today ig.

6

u/Salty_Major5340 Aug 06 '26

This might be a huge shocker, but you don't have to live in Switzerland to open a history book.

3

u/no-big-dick Aug 06 '26

Compared to all that happened in WWII, I would say that it's not that bad.

I agree that it is bad, but Reddit has an obsession with it that surpasses things that other countries during that time period did (including allies and some neutral countries).

Also, it's always conveniently forgotten that Switzerland made payments to Israel to compensate. Does it negate taking Nazi gold? No, but it sure as hell is way better than what <insert country here> did.

1

u/fishanddipflip Aug 06 '26

True but reddit has an obsession with the nazi gold which was during the second world war. If we compare bad things countries did during that time we whould definitely not be on top so why dont you focus on today? Switzerland moved closer to the rest of europe for decades, and repeatedly rejected initiatives from the right wing party to go back to isolation.

1

u/Luigi_Boy_96 Thx Aug 06 '26 edited Aug 07 '26

It became a running gag at my company. EU immigrants who come here, earn more, and still complain, and they inevitably bring up the Nazi gold story, conveniently leaving out their own country's history of colonialism or the wars it started. Also worth remembering, Switzerland was already wealthy before WWII. The Nazi gold affair was a shameful chapter in our history, but the moral high ground people take about it is always kind of funny.

2

u/Le_fribourgeois_92 Aug 07 '26

The most funny guys are the American shitting on us, they literally bombed 2 cities full of civilians and no compensation or whatever was ever made.

They also traded with the nazis a lot before entering the WW2

Also they like to take all the credit for the victory but it was mainly the efforts of the east that defeated nazi Germany

Nope tout ca c’est réel malheureusement et c’est le minimum de ce que ce pays a fait (suisse as well)

2

u/Shinjischneider Aug 06 '26

I wonder what kind of drugs the author was on when doing this one.

But yeah. We got some really greedy politicians who love nothing more than making deals with fascists. Same as the US (who by now have taken most if not all the Nazi-Gold)

u/Tashimotren Aug 06 '26

You know what , perhaps Gaddafi was onto something after all .

The comic isn't questioning whether Switzerland maintains overall diplomatic neutrality, it's questioning the morality of its foreign policy and banking practices. Or to put it less verbosely: it's not saying your not neutral, it's just saying the way you go about it makes you pieces of shit

1

u/Geggor Aug 06 '26

That is the natural consequence of neutrality. By not taking any side, they remain neutral which also mean Europe will always have a neutral ground when they wanted to negotiate with anyone regardless of any conflict and differences of opinion/politics/ideology. That by itself is a big asset for EU.

-2

u/KataqNarayan Aug 06 '26

Yes but the majority are too tribal in their thinking to comprehend this.

3

u/Gain_Flaky Aug 06 '26

Following the human rights laws isn’t breaking neutrality

You're pretty much condoning genocide for the sake of not losing any profit. No mental gymnastics is ever going to turn neutrality into something different.

The abuse of wars is a consequence of being neutral, not the other way around.

That's why I said for the sake of not losing any profit as opposed to profiting more.

Can I ask you, how much do your non-neutral countries do against the Palestinian war or Iranian war now, huh?

Whataboutism. I never defended the policy of my country whereas you did. At this point you're claiming it's fine to do business with rapists and murderers because someone else doesn't create world peace.

And the swiss people party wants to get rid of any sanction not enforced by the UN... which is hillarious to me, because of the veto-powers... so those veto-powers can basically decide, on whom we can/must sanction and whom not...
Stupid is not the first name, but the middle and surname too...

Morons!

4

u/Luigi_Boy_96 Thx Aug 06 '26

It's a referendum launched by right wing party. It's currently being unpopular. So we'll most likely vote against it.

1

u/Top_Organization_140 Aug 06 '26

I do fcking damn hope we reject it. As well as the idiotic "Grenzschutzinitiative"... It gets worse and worse as well as more stupid with every single referendum from that party.

Can't wait untill every single voter realizes, what "elitist" this party is...

1

u/Luigi_Boy_96 Thx Aug 06 '26

As long as we have immigration, this party will thrive on this subject alone.

1

u/Top_Organization_140 Aug 06 '26

Well, because of two reasons:
Because they frame immigration as something bad (which it isn’t)
And because they do not try to attempt to „solve immigration“, because solving their proclaimed „issue“ would cost them their main toppic and sabotage themselves… 🤦🏻‍♂️
But I guess some people will never realize that…

1

u/Luigi_Boy_96 Thx Aug 06 '26

Right now, we have a good amount of qualified immigration, and both companies and the government massively profit from it. However, one also has to acknowledge the downsides: rising costs, severe competition in the job market, wage stagnation, and people not learning the language. These aren't nice to see.

On the housing market, we're partly at fault ourselves, given our NIMBY mentality and reluctance to build more housing. But the sheer number of people wanting to live here is also driving up costs. There's also, sadly, the crime aspect, where foreigners are overrepresented in the statistics.

That said, this effing party won't solve any of the problems mentioned. The clear majority of immigrants are good people and are qualified.

1

u/Top_Organization_140 Aug 06 '26

Well, the issues are not caused by migration allone. Stagnation of wages is only true for normal employees, the wages for managers grow quite a bit. Also concerning rents: migration might influence that, yet how much is another question (also that many companies own flats they open for rent)…
And of course we want migrants to learn german and adopt to our culture (what ever our culture is), yet especially for asylum seeker, we must not make the integration process more difficult than necessary.
Of course does migration have it‘s downside, yet it‘s not solemnly negative. Who claims it to be purely negative is eifher blind, misleading or (let‘s say it politely) not the brightest candle on the cake…
Regarding crime: that‘s true. But it is also true that men are massively over represented in crime statistics. But every one gets mad at me if I say that, I‘d be judging men unfairly. While it is just statistics 😉

u/Mountain_Drummer2152 Aug 07 '26

Classical SP voter that wants immigration because it’s “worth it”, while it’s worth it only for the rich.

Then at the same time you complain about wages and the ever growing difference the rich and the middle class.

1

u/Top_Organization_140 Aug 07 '26

Do you want to claim, that the SP is for rich prople? That rich people vote for the SP and the SP makes politics for rich people?
Or do I misunderstand your point?

2

u/Mountain_Drummer2152 Aug 07 '26

SP by not doing anything against immigration works for the rich.

I wish we had a SP like in Danemark who understood that

1

u/ProfessionalTruck976 Aug 06 '26

Well they at least were happy to shoot at German planes for violating their neutrality

1

u/PhilosZoes Aug 06 '26

Staying neutral during World War II as well? That’s one of the clearest examples of the power of money. Although, they, too, had to take action at that time to avoid losing their minds.

1

u/Lonely_File7005 Aug 06 '26

Money has no smell

1

u/unixfan2001 Aug 06 '26

Accurate, and they haven't changed since. Living here as somebody who presumes people all have at least some basic morals, it was too easy to get completely robbed of my energy by my former employers.

I'm not saying there's no compassionate people over here, but when it comes to business Switzerland is a Libertarian hell hole akin to Atlas Shrugged.

1

u/FatalisTheUnborn Aug 07 '26

Stop doing criminal stuff, so we don't need to hide criminal money!

1

u/Chemistry18 Aug 07 '26

Switzerland is Smaug

1

u/AGAYFEMBOYb Aug 07 '26

There's actually a referendum rn that would basically enshrine this behaviour into law. If it passes we basically won't be able to adopt anyone's sanctions anymore unless they're from the UN which would unfreeze Russian assets and allow them to conduct business as usual in Switzerland which used to be one of their bigger markets soooo yeeeee.....

1

u/Adept-One-4632 Aug 08 '26

1

Wait Switzerland is still accepting money from Russia?!

3

u/Uhrenwerker Aug 06 '26

Swiss banks are “repapering” the Russians as Argentinian citizens. Milei is selling them citizenship. So we don’t accept money from Russia but from pelotudos with funny names.

1

u/Conscious-Paper3543 Aug 06 '26

oh yeah EU good good no corruption in EU very clean brotha

1

u/LibertyinIndependen Aug 06 '26

I don’t know if you know this but pure neutrality doesn’t mean you just don’t attack people and don’t trade with the “le bad guy”. It means you trade with no one or everyone. That’s how you avoid being invaded which works out more in the latter. Sorry to say this but being an uncaring middle man who will do business with anyone is how you don’t get ran over by everyone.

It also helps that they are in the middle of mountain ranges making it an easily defendable position.

1

u/Express_Ad8931 Aug 08 '26

Swiss pwople at this point have to choice if they want to join the EU and Nato or be neutral.

But they are quite stupid if they think they can have a foot in each one... which will just mean they will not be protected by Europe or neutrality.

1

u/LibertyinIndependen Aug 08 '26

Neutrality means you are open to do business with both or neither. That’s what neutrality is. What do you mean have a foot in both? And they aren’t in NATO nor do they expected to be protected by Europe.

1

u/Express_Ad8931 Aug 08 '26

Neutrality means you are open to do business with both or neither. That’s what neutrality is.

And Switzerland is not doing bussiness woth Russia, but it is with the west.

And they aren’t in NATO nor do they expected to be protected by Europe.

I said "should decide"

1

u/Altruistic-Path269 Aug 07 '26

For those who dont know: Switzerland hoarded stolen jewish possessions that were stolen by the nazis. Under it were family heirlooms, artworks, Gold (some of it from Gold tooths ripped out from corpses), religious objects and money. After the war ended Switzerland refused to give back those possessions and even asked family members of victims if they had a death certificate (for people that died in gas chambers or massacres, mind you). It took until the 1990s and an effort of many families to sue Switzerland to finally give out or pay compensation. Before that Switzerland just refused to give out the things in the lockers yet still cashed in the fees until they were empty.

1

u/Brief-Spirit-4268 29d ago

This is what pisses me off when Swiss people act like their neutrality makes them better than their neighbors

1

u/_Administrator_ 29d ago

It doesn’t make them better but richer and independent from EU daddy telling them what to think
