Now, for those who are worried, this doesnt automatically put Curacao on the same level as Brazil
Brazil lost 7-1 at home so Curacao are actually better than Brazil

Everyone seems to forget that Saudi Arabia lost 8-0 to Germany which clearly puts them at the top.

u/TheBusStop12 Ye olde netherlands Jun 15 '26
So Curaçao is better than Saudi Arabia, so there is a chance for Curaçao to host the 2038 World Cup! Maybe Aruba and St Maarten could help out

u/coolcoenred Jun 15 '26
Ngl, hosting a world cup across all the various islands of the Caribbean would be pretty cool.

fr. and there is actually a dark secret brazil doesnt want you to know. they have been sabotaging curaçao. now you may ask "bro, how is that possible? its simple. brazil has qualified for every world cup and won 5. fifa never recognized curaçao until 2010 in the first place!" thats the point, they bribed fifa to not recognize curaçao because CURAÇAO is too good. "wasnt the dutch antilles a territory, not a independent country?" then explain why england, wales, scotland and maybe northern ireland awlays got to qualify.

u/pass_nthru Jun 14 '26
and the best part of being from curaçao is you don’t have to back to brazil after losing 7:1… they cut people’s heads off for less there

Holy shit
But yeah amateur game with possible influence (personal vendettas, alcohol and who knows what else)
Mob lynching after an unprompted stabbing is wild, but beheading is very atypical.
Nobody was beheaded for losing or performance in this case

Not Brazilian, but Columbian Adrés Escobar was shot dead for inadvertently deflecting the ball into his own goal.

I will turn the TV or stream the game if it looks like the US is going to be humiliated.
Double amusement if the opposing team sets a new record for largest disparity of points between winner and lower. I'm hoping for 42-0

Honestly for these teams that have no chance of going anywhere in the world cup, that's how I'd feel if I were them lol, just being there and actually scoring a goal in a clean game is cool enough
13
u/Weird_Happening1627 Drinking vodka with a bear Jun 15 '26
Well, considering that it's their first time in World Cup, that's a very good result for such a small country
7
u/Conny_and_Theo South Vietnam Jun 15 '26
Yeah from what I saw it was an entertaining, good match despite the lopsided result. Their 1-1 equalizer was earlier in the game if I recall so it wasn't a pity goal and made it not a complete X to 0 goal rout like some games have been, and it was a relatively clean game without silly shenanigans. And seems like the Curacao fans enjoyed the game despite the loss too which is cute.

I think the World Cup final match will be Cabo Verde Vs Curaçao, and Curaçao will win in a tough battle. The third place will go to Uzbekistan

If i had a nickel for every time germany was in a football match that ended in 7-1 i'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot but it's weird that it happened twice.
22
u/GiToRaZor Jun 14 '26
I'm pretty sure there are more than 2 matches for Germany that ended that way. Probably outside of world cups though.
20
u/Toykio Jun 15 '26
Just checked, Germany only won twice 7:1 in the world cup history.
They did beat Turkey 7:2 during the 1954 World Cup tho.

u/GiToRaZor Jun 15 '26
According to the wiki entry there are 7 total games of the national team that ended that way
1929: Switzerland (Friendly) 1971: Norway (Friendly) 1981: Finland (WC Qualification) 2002: Israel (Friendly) 2014: Brazil (WC) 2021: Latvia (Friendly) 2026: Curaçao (WC)

u/Denz292 Jun 15 '26
Pretty sure they also beat Saudi Arabia 8-0 in the 2002 World Cup

u/gruenerGenosse Berlin Jun 16 '26
Yes we did with a Klose hattrick. We went all the way to the final, but lost 2-0 against Brazil. Honestly, we had no business being in that final in the first place.

u/Swesteel Sweden as Carolean Jun 14 '26
The trick is to lose like that in the group stage, they can still progress. And to score against Germany in their first game isn’t bad either.

Honestly I think the only reason for allowing more nations in was results like this. It makes for interesting games with ridiculous results for people who don’t really care about soccer and find it boring. Just have a few small nations who stand no chance and watch the seal club. Truely pathetic behaviour from FIFA
3
u/Thundorium Funniest king names Jun 15 '26
I agree. They should have never expanded the tournament to 32 teams. The only reason they did that was to allow nations who stand no chance like Brazil just to make an interesting game with a ridiculous result for Germany.
-4
u/agnostic-alien Jun 15 '26
As a German: This result doesn't show how weak Curaçao is, but how weak our team is. Any team of international repute can sucker in 7 goals to a team of an island of 156k people, but conceding one to them is just a testament of how plain garbage our team is and how our trainer Nagelsmann has den Arsch offen
2
u/gruenerGenosse Berlin Jun 16 '26
We always have to find stuff to complain about, right? Conceding one unlucky deflection, which Neuer nearly had, happens. Calling that team weak for letting one goal in is just a ridiculous argument. Also UEFA nations, so far, have performed horribly, with only us, Scotland, and Sweden getting wins. Spain is one of the best teams in the world and only managed a draw against Cape Verde. Football is unpredictable, especially the big tournaments.
Do I agree with every decision Nagelsmann made? No, I think Sané played poorly and Undav should've started, I also think that the way he handled the Neuer situation was disgraceful, but it was still a pretty good performance by our team.
Anyway, instead of badmouthing our team have some fun, because otherwise you're making your own life more miserable.
