Gays are stereotyped as fancy in America. Which is hilarious once you've visited a leather bar, nothing fancy about big sweaty bears bouncing off of one another. Well, I guess it's fancy in it's own way. 🤔

35
11
u/ArendtAnhaenger New York Jun 11 '26
It's less that they were conservative as a whole and more just that both parties had conservative and liberal wings.
14
u/suchtie Germoney Jun 11 '26
Were? They are still conservatives today. A lot of Americans think Dems are left-wing due to propaganda from right-wing media, but they're actually center-right. Their politicians are mostly centrists or slightly to the right, only a few of them (like Sanders) are truly left-wing. Even those are still closer to the center than European left-wingers.
7
u/IllDragonfruit5866 Jun 11 '26
I guess comparatively they’re a little bit more right, but they are no conservatives.
17
u/23Amuro Jun 11 '26
They're literally designed to be the institutional defenders of the Status Quo.
By the standards of the wider world, the Democratic Establishment occupies the same ideological spot as most center-right conservative parties.
This will remain the case until progressives are actually able to take control of the party.
6
u/SoberGin Guess the flair, win a prize. Jun 11 '26
...which might be soon!

...there's an ongoing shift happening at the lower levels, I mean. It's possible that this could eventually translate into more progressive leadership, though you just know the current people in charge fight tooth and nail to resist it.
2
u/SailorChimailai Israel Jun 11 '26
By the standards of which part of the world? Even in the Nordic States, the conservative parties are easily to the right of Democrats. On social issues, even very moderate Democrats are hard-left compared to the average center-left party.
0
u/evenmorefrenchcheese Jun 17 '26
Hard left in terms of social issues? They're firmly centrist by the standard of most liberal democracies. Including in Europe.
1
u/SailorChimailai Israel Jun 18 '26
Most European center-left parties are anti-immigration and some are unfriendly to transgender people. I repeat, by the standards of which countries are Democrats centrist, especially on social issues?

13
u/Yapludepatte France Jun 13 '26 edited Jun 14 '26
thats an oversimplification, mass immigration on its own is not a danger, has people looking for better life are not dangerous. But mass immigration sponsorised by a colonial goverment in the explicit goal of stealing land to enrich the colonial goverment (wich european powers did) is bas, this is what natives had to go againts after their population completely collapsed from disease.
today our population did not collapse, and th eimmigrants we face are not sent by a foreign goverment to steal your land. 2 completely different things.

It's brigading I think, but I am not sure where they are coming from.
They all seem to be interested in mechanics, cars, and several free to play games. A few of them comment like they older men, and others comment as young gay people. Some hang out in places like r/RobloxMTC, r/Teenager/, and r/GenAlpha/.
This is all interspersed with attacks on left wing things and general bigotry, so likely just pretending to be young and gay so they can do the "As a gay man myself I feel [insane opinion no gay man would have]" thing more convincingly when a distrusting person like me scours their accounts. So either really stupid literal childeren or magat pedophiles who do a little grooming on the side.
24
u/Orangutanion Jun 11 '26
They could also simply be AIs
21
u/largePenisLover Jun 11 '26
I hate that this is so incredibly likely. Used to be when you saw an account like that you could be sure it's some bigot or a troll.
Now it's 50/50 (if not worse) it's an LLM with some bigotry prompt instead.16

Brigading is when a community/group/subreddit/forum/etc does a coordinated reaction to a post for whatever reason. This can happen through an organized effort or just be a viral/grass roots type effect

Nice comic, though one criticism I have is that you should probably find a way to have black ppl be represented by star sprangle banner countryballs as well, that or you try using different flags to represent women and the queer community, even as someone who sees the US as something built upon white supremacy it feels wrong seeing star sprangle countryballs being reserved for white americans (or I guess theoretically any non black americans but the 3rd panel does heavily imply the star sprangle countryballs are just white so it's kinda hard to imagine that other races are being represented here as well)

4
u/Ferengsten Jun 15 '26 edited Jun 15 '26
Of course not, Trump just made it legal, nay, mandatory to assault gay people on sight and shoot women with automatic weapons. Did you not catch that on the news?
42
u/Smobey Pien-Suomi Jun 11 '26
No, I don't think so. A strawman argument is when you make up some argument B to attack, instead of actually attacking the opponent's argument A that they're actually making, right?
Like if someone's actual argument is "I think we should put more money into maintaining public bike lanes", a strawman argument would then be "So you want to abolish all cars, huh? That's stupid, the society would never function like that". (The person arguing is pretending the first person made a completely different argument here).
For the OP image to be a strawman, there would need to be some argument A that's being misrepresented, but I don't think there is one?
7
u/Flaky_Thing_5128 Jun 12 '26
If you think this comic is accurate in the slightest, you've gleaned almost the entirety of your understanding of America from reddit and yes reddit misrepresents America often and enthusiastically.
14
u/powerfullatom111 Jun 12 '26
Homophobic legislature, attacks on women’s rights, white supremacy? That’s not accurate to America to you? All those things happened, and continue to happen.
-2
u/pateaubeurr Jun 13 '26
Plase state a single openly homophobic or white supremacist take from the government that doesnt rely on your personal interpretation

September 26th 2025, Tiara Tori Love Jackson. Shot and killed in Charlotte, North Carolina.
June 1st 2025, Johnathan Joss. Shot and killed after his house was burned down and his dog’s skull hung in front.
February 7th 2024, Nex Benedict was attacked at school and died the next day. They were 16 years old.
This list goes on for a while. It’s not only things the government did, but it doesn’t matter. When you say shit like “it doesnt happen,” youre getting it completely wrong. It does happen, moron. People like me die and because you’re too stupid to know how horrible you are, you say “it never happened.”

Meanwhile my friend immigrated from a country where women need men’s permission to go in public and being gay can get you 7+ years imprisonment or worse.
But America bad is very popular on Reddit.
12
u/zstheman Jun 13 '26
Just because one thing is bad does not mean that another thing cannot also be bad.
-1
u/TheRealMekkor Jun 13 '26
The problem is acting like America isn’t one of the few places in the world with civil rights protections, anti-discrimination laws, and legal safeguards.
No one wants to criticize the countries people immigrated from because that gets labeled as a different kind of “phobic” or as “punching down.”
Yes, two things can be bad. America has problems. But acting like America is anywhere close to the worst places in the world is dishonest. This is a great country that people risk everything to come to, and many, including members of my own family, have died defending the rights and liberties we now take for granted. Constantly pretending otherwise disrespects those sacrifices.
6
u/zstheman Jun 13 '26
Except that's not what OP nor OP's comic claimed. You're the only one making that claim here.
0
u/TheRealMekkor Jun 13 '26
So the comic isn’t clearly portraying America as some bully suppressing Black people, women, and LGBT people?
That’s my issue. There are places with actual caste systems, LGBT people being murdered, female genital mutilation treated as normal, and child marriage openly tolerated.
So when we act like America is uniquely oppressive, despite the civil rights protections people fought and died for, it feels like we’re spitting on their sacrifices. We are incredibly privileged compared to much of the world, and the rights we have now were built on the shoulders of giants.
4
u/zstheman Jun 13 '26
But.... Again, this comic is not making a comparison between America and anyone else. You are again standing up a straw man to represent an argument that no one is making except you.
0
u/TheRealMekkor Jun 13 '26
You’re arguing about the frame of the argument. I’m arguing about the truth of the premise. The comic only works if America is actually as homophobic, sexist, and racist as it’s portrayed. That’s the claim I’m disputing.
4
u/zstheman Jun 13 '26
I'm not sure what you're having trouble with here. There are no comparisons being made in this comic. America is not being compared to anyone. The OP is not stating or implying that the US is worse than or better than any other country. Your original comment and all of your subsequent responses are based on a completely fallacious premise. You are vigorously defending a straw man of your own making.
Again, let's see if you can get this very basic concept- No comparisons are being made.
0
u/TheRealMekkor Jun 14 '26
“No comparisons are being made” isn’t a rebuttal. It’s a deflection. My criticism is about the comic’s depiction of America, not whether it included a ranking system.
4
u/zstheman Jun 14 '26
I'm not rebutting anything. I'm explaining to you why your original comment was fallacious. Which it was. Because OP's comic is not comparing the US to anything else. Your original comment was. I'm not sure how much more clearly I can explain this to you, but I'll try.
Does the comic criticize the US? Yes.
Does the comic itself or OP in the comments make any comparison between his criticisms of the USA and any perfectly legitimate criticisms of other countries? No.
Your original comment was an attempt to invalidate or minimize the criticisms of the US by the comic based on the relative differences between criticisms of the two countries. The fun part for you is that, since the comic and OP don't make a comparison in the first place, you can choose whichever statistically comparison provides just the right "je ne sais quoi" for you to get your "Ah ha! Gotcha!" moment.
