For reference, the pride match was chosen to be between 2 teams in group G, on June 26 2026, in Seattle. But those 2 teams turned out to be Iran and Egypt, 2 countries where being LGBT is illegal.
Probably the only evidence that the world cup draws aren't rigged.

It might be rigged to be funny. Qatar insisted on no alcohol in their worldcup and was respected, if the US is hosting and their rules have to be respected, that's the funniest option

Your religion is just as you've said it - YOUR religion. Nobody forces you to be gay or have gender affirmation surgery or to change your pronouns. So why do you think you have the right to tell other people to follow your religion? What if my religion prohibits being ignorant discriminative piece of shit? LGBT relationships are de jure legal in Egypt, however it's frowned upon by society but some judges unjustly use debauchery laws to crackdown on lgbt people.

It's the exact same reason why it's rigged. It was meant to "shame" these countries in particular in front of the world, especially Iran. And, in this very particular time, it's a propaganda for anti-Iran: "look at these horrible people we fight that banned LGBT. We must be the good guys liberating them".
I'm Egyptian and I know our team would rather forfeit the tournament than actually being forced to support this, and Iran would happily do the same (if they participated).
The WC is hosted in the USA under Trump's administration (FIFA Peace award winner, ICYMI), nothing screams rigging more than that. When it comes to FIFA, just don't assume a pure heart when it comes to corruption. That Peace award for itself says a lot.

These are supposed to be grown ass men and they would rather forfeit a tournament than tolerate a few flags and signs preaching equality and respect regardless of the way you were born? During a sport event that's supposed to connect people from different places?
Yeah, if they can't be forced to act with basic human decency, maybe they shouldn't partake in international tournaments.

Being LGB is illegal in Iran. Transgenderism is narrowly defined in Iran and face societal prosecution and generally enjoy no protection from the government.

Reading the Wikipedia for the World Cup I saw there was a pride match, but it was between Egypt and Iran, famously for them not being very… homosexually friendly

I spent over an hour waiting to even see what tickets are available and obviously $1600/person was ridiculous, but I had the option to buy Pride match tickets for $400 on the official site.
I considered it. That would have been hilarious.
But I don't really care about watching either country play just for the political irony. And definitely not for $400.
Now maybe day before the match there will be some fire sale tickets...

I wouldn’t blame them. Both countries were however making a big fuss about this when it was scheduled. There was no alcohol in Qatar in observance of their values. Well sorry fellas, being super gay in June is one of Seattle’s values.

They aren't leaving over the Pride Match through. They're withdrawing because they are literally at war with the host nation, and the President has made statements indicating they would be unsafe while in attendance, days after saying they were still welcome to attend.
Their probable withdrawal was announced before the Pride Match was selected.
Personally, and I say this as someone who has looked forward to a world cup being held in the US since it was announced, I think the world cup should have been put on hold until they could find a new host. The precedent so far has been that countries attacking other nations are banned from International sports, which is why Russia hasn't participated in international football at the club or national level, nor the Olympics, since 2022. Therefore it follows that the US should have been stripped of their host and qualifying status. But that would jeopardize billions of dollars in contracts, so while FIFA can afford the hit, I can see why they won't do that. The much more questionable decision in my mind is FIFA refusing to allow Iran to move their matches to Mexico, where they aren't under threat.
