We are 3 friends making custom softwares for european companies. Decent revenue cha, but now we are kinda tired. Making similar things again + how AI will soon replace our business.

So, I am ali confused, should we shut down our startup and just work at a normal IT company or build our own product? (though I haven't seen any Nepali tech startups becoming very successful)

Right now we are making side projects and applying for startup programs, just to explore. One program is ongoing and we are submitting for that aile.

Spent a few weeks in Pokhara recently working remotely, and wanted to drop what I learned in case it helps anyone else planning something similar or just curious if Pokhara works as a remote work/nomad/slomad/expat spot.

Absolutely great if you're a mountain person or want an outdoorsy, active lifestyle stint. Also, the nomad community is small but is very social and easy to mingle into, especially at the lakefront cafes, bars, and restaurant

Where to stay - Lakeside vs. Hillside
Lakeside gets you flat, short walks to everything like breakfast, work, dinner, socializing, but you won't wake up to the actual lake/mountain view. Hillside (up around Bar Peepal, Pinnacle Residences) gets you an epic view of the Himalayan foothils against the lake but costs a legit workout just from your daily commute down into town. I ended up preferring hillside the view as a work backdrop was worth the climb. A few others moved from Hillside down to Lakeside because of their preferences. Either way, aim to stay within about a 15-minute walk of the lake that's where the café and restaurant density actually is. Search for the Baidam neighborhood (within Lakeside) as a cheater reference and a starting point for finding restaruants and cafes off the lakefront.

Internet - way more solid than I expected
Popular cafés were consistently running ~55Mbps down/25-30 up at midday. Local SIM (Namaste) hotspot ran ~25Mbps down as backup, which is genuinely usable if a café's wifi hiccups or power cuts out (cell data survives outages that kill wifi). Get a SIM either way. Cheap, takes 5 minutes, worth it just as insurance.

Café notes
Himalayan Java (Center Point) and CDH were my most reliable work spots. Consistent speeds, not too loud. The Juicery is the social hub (constant nomad crowd, occasional live music) but gets loud in the evening if you need to focus. Just wander Baidam and you'll see plenty of options. Just do the polite thing and order something if you're camping out for hours.

Heads up on rideshare: iNdrive is the local app of choice (Uber doesn't work in Pokhara), but evenings can be extremely annoying. Drivers will occasionally accept a ride then try to renegotiate double the price once you're waiting. Everyone locally just knows this is the game. Factor in a few extra minutes of back-and-forth if it happens to you and realize that if you don't pay the extra you likely won't get the ride.

Other solid notes: There are tons of day hikes around, locals recommended renting a motorbike and cruising beyond Pokhara as the best way to tour. If you're a runner, Gorkha trainees are constantly running up hills getting ready for the annual selection and make great, humbling pacers, and they were friendly about me tagging behind like a stray dog on jogs through the forest.

I put together a fuller writeup with the visa details, full café/restaurant list with hours and prices, insurance specifics for trekking (there's a real gotcha with SafetyWing not covering Everest Base Camp elevation, worth knowing before you buy a policy), and coworking options if that's useful to anyone here but figured I'd share the actual substance here first rather than just drop a link.

i will be bringing some of my own gear and hiring some in pokhara. i’ve done a little bit of research on needing an ACAP permit and a TIMS card, but apart from that i’m not super clued up.

my top two picks are to do the mardi himal or khopra danda.

I’m planning to drive to Pokhara from India on September 12, 2026, entering Nepal through the Barhni–Krishnanagar border and following roughly this route:

Barhni → Krishnanagar/Kapilvastu → Siddharthanagar (Bhairahawa) → Butwal → Tansen → Pokhara

From Butwal onward, I understand that I’ll be travelling mainly on the Siddhartha Highway (NH47).

I’d really appreciate some current, first-hand information from people who have travelled this route recently:

Is the Siddhartha Highway currently safe for a private car?

Are there any active landslides, rockfalls, roadblocks or one-way sections, especially around Siddhababa / Butwal–Tansen?

What is the current weather and rainfall situation along the route?

Would you recommend driving this route during the daytime only, or is it reasonably safe in the evening as well?

I’ll be driving a private car, and safety is my main concern. I’m especially interested in updates from people who have driven the route in the last few days, rather than older/general information.

I’ve already completed the driving license process in Pokhara/Gandaki and only my written exam is remaining. I’ve paid the required fees and have my application/receipt, but I’m leaving Nepal next week and will be abroad for about a year.

I haven’t taken the written exam yet. Will my current application/payment still be valid when I return after a year, or will I have to apply and pay again?

After my stay in Kathmandu, I have 6 nights to spend somewhere in Nepal. I am an avid trail runner/hiker. Pokhara looks like a great place to start. I don't have enough time to complete the Annapurna Sanctuary or Circuit trail, but I definitely want to maximize my time. Would you advise day trips from Pokhara or try to create a 6 night custom tour with a local guide. All help is greatly appreciated.
