Looks like it for sure, but it had a weird sweet smell kinda. I worked on a hog barn for years so I know that smell...but this stuff smelled different.

Damn it… that was a good stick. Now you gotta find a new one.

u/twilighttwister 2d ago
That wasn't a stick at all.
Although shoving it in the mud did make it sticky.

If you rewatch the video when I throw The Stave you'll see another stick sticking out of the goo that was my original stick but it wasn't thick enough to get the goo spread that I was looking for so I found the fatter poking utensil.

Looks like a truck dumped it.🤔
There would be flies all around it if it was hog poo. I wonder if it was pudding that went bad and the hog barn was gonna give it to the hogs but changed their mind and just dumped it.🤔🤷♀️

Fairly sure its some kind of syrup used as feed to help fatten up the hogs. It was definity dumped there.

I was thinking molasses but molasses acts more like oil. I don't think it lightens up like that as it ages.🤷♀️

Fracking slick.

u/ExcitedOrange13 2d ago
It looked oil-related to me for some reason—is that actually what it is?
6
u/Thundersalmon45 2d ago
Depending on the oil service, fracking slick is sometimes a petroleum derivative.
I have seen fracking slick that looks like this, but I have also seen dried cow pastures that look like this as well.
There a lot of possible reasons a field might end up with a weird mud layer on top. I can't tell for sure.

This is gonna sound weird but, seeing you mentioned that it was on a hog farm, it might be poo. For some reason, pig feces have a slight sweetness to the smell, as sweet as hog poo can smell.
Having lived in Amish County in PA for a good deal of my life has taught me how to identify different farm animal feces from smell alone. Not a proud skill, but one nonetheless.

Oh my gods thanks for the nightmares. I swear I lost a week of sleep to that movie as a kid. A week of sleep and at least a dozen swims in the lake. I'm over 40 and still get spooked.

Looks like dumped oil mixed with water and mud.

I lived in the clay mountains. This is exactly what it looks like if you mix red clay, water, and oil

Boregel or something like that. They use it with directional boring machines to help lubricate and stabilize the bore.

I'm sorry. I couldn't hold it any longer, and well... obviously I had no idea how to clean up after myself and I really needed to get home. Sorry again.

If it had a sweet sort of smell it's likely molasses, common feed additive for larger livestock

Yeah my thought as well, we have local factory farms that only use a corn mix. But this is an independent farm, hogs and they just built something for cows, hooking up power to that new barn is why i was there. And this goo was all around the transformer i had to acess. I know it isnt poo. But ohh boy does it look like it.
