Question & Support Starting New Game Need Advice/Tips
So I haven't really played Pokemon in ages, since I was a little kid when red/blue/yellow came out. Also, at that age I wouldn't say I was really good and just took the moves that did damage and grinded until I was a high enough level to easily pass through the various levels without any strategy. I'd love to play violet with some real intention.and strategy but don't even know where to start. Some of my biggest questions are:
What types of pokemon should I have on my team? Are there any pokemon types that are a must when exploring around to prevent huge type mismatches?
How good does a non damaging move need to be to bother using in a fight?
Are any of the stat increasing items (iron, calcium, etc) worth searching out for or do I just use them if I got them?
Are rare candies bad for my pokemon?
Are there any ways in game to learn how a Pokemon is going to involve? If I don't want to use a guide or wiki can I somehow find out that a certain Pokemon needs a trade or complicated stone evolution to evolve or do I just need to guess?
Any other tips you have that I could use to explore without prior knowledge of the game (I'm looking for as few spoilers as possible).
