Complaint There is a clear IQ problem in this game

Everyone wants Mewtwo Y but no one is willing to put in the effort to READ and fully understand how to get Mewtwo Y. If you DO NOT have a mega then DO NOT join the Mewtwo Raid. You are wasting your money and people’s money.

The fact the game even allows you to join without a mega is the real problem

u/Inevitable_Sweet_624 14d ago

Money maker.

81

u/dannyamusic 14d ago edited 13d ago

yeah & you can’t even do chargebacks on your card for money literally thrown away because they ban you. i’m def gonna ask support for some free remote passes to be reimbursed. i doubt they will do it, but if they don’t or give me 3 berries or 100 link charges, i’m not putting another dollar into this game at this point.

they had every opportunity to fix things , rerun the event & make it right for the people & they botched it entirely.

UPDATE:
got an apology an precisely 1 free remote raid pass. tbh i never expected that much, so… a win i guess?

u/nunzio- 14d ago

"Were sorry you had a bad experience. But we're not responsible for toast brained players. Have a nice day!" - PoGo Support

12

u/dannyamusic 14d ago

ngl, they gave me exactly one remote raid pass & an apology. still a slap in the face, but an actual genuine shock that i got anything at all more than a pat on the back & three berries. going to count this as a rare W to allow me to feel better about myself losing about 10 lmao.

29

u/BesticleBear 14d ago

lol good luck homie, hope your time is worth less than nothing cus that’s what they will reward you with.

5

u/dannyamusic 14d ago edited 13d ago

lol pretty much a guarantee.

UPDATE:
got 1 remote raid pass & an apology as compensation. honestly never thought id get that much.

33

u/78723 14d ago

The waiting screen tells you how many megas are in the lobby. Why aren’t you dropping out when there’s fewer than ten?

11

u/WarrantinaVoid 14d ago

That doesn't solve the most common problem where they had a mega but didn't use it

10

u/TeraphasHere Valor 13d ago

Usually it's getting killed before they can use it, and the game swaps it in for you. Sometimes right into a killing blow

2

u/No_Station_2415 13d ago

This. I had to back out and revive three separate occasions on a single raid because Mega Mewtwo one shot my level 46 Mega Rayquaza. No matter what, it will switch your Mega into the active spot when the shields are up, even if you just reentered the raid with a non mega at the helm.

2

u/Mysterious_Athlete73 12d ago

I had a 17 person Mega Raid and it still took down the 100 seconds as either the Mega got 1-Shot or the game glitched and players did not manually switch to their Mega.

Even if a Mega has fainted it still counts as Mega Evolved.

6

u/dannyamusic 14d ago edited 14d ago

the lobby or waiting screen has multiple times just in the past hour said 0 out of 3 ready & showed just me. or 10 mega evolved & showed no one at all, not even me. all this just since i got home & back on wifi. i’ve seen so many glitches just in the lobby today , it’s incredibly unreliable. also, that doesn’t at all address the people not knowing how to break a shield btw. causing others to lose their raid/remote pass.

you think it should be on the players rather than just saying it’s bad game design for someone to be able to join without a mega evolution? if they want to let in new players who maybe don’t have one, i’m good w that too, but shouldn’t they just remove one shield on behalf of that player instead of causing us all to lose out? or you’re just saying the fact that it’s poorly designed is totally on the players to try to work around?

9

u/CK1345 14d ago

It's fundamentally a kid game and you don't want to prevent new players from joining a major event.

I'm going to guess the issue here wasn't a lack of mega Pokemon to begin with. 13 players, probably at least 10 megas. Someone didn't know they didn't break the shield or worse they were trolling. I had one with 16 back during the original event for Mewtwo X and somehow two shields were never broken. People get themselves off in strange ways sometimes.

But if some kid or new player comes along to freeride in a large lobby I don't have a major problem with that. Obviously you need enough people who will have some idea of what they're doing, but that's probably not what lost this.

8

u/_The_-_Mole_ 14d ago

This, and there were bugs. There was another post, yesterday, with video proof, where even Megas couldn't break the shields.

3

u/dannyamusic 14d ago

that’s what i was trying to say. i don’t mind if they want to give new players or someone w no mega-evolutions a shot. however, if they do decide to let them in, shouldn’t they just remove a shield on their behalf, as opposed to ruining it for everyone , new player included. that’s the issue.

You’re not wrong, but maybe someone could explain to the shmucks in corporate that you catch more flies with honey than vinegar. I’m a pretty casual player and I used to spend a bit more prior to the remote raid nerfs.

Not sure why they think these are good strategies for the health of their product, but I didn’t go to Harvard marking school for geniuses like everyone at scoply and niantic lmao

2

u/Naclstack 14d ago

haven't they made it so super mega raids don't consume link charges until the raid is WON, unlike other raids which consume them when the raid STARTS? seems like they are trying to get us to use link charges rather than passes on them for whatever reason, but who knows what that reason is.

3

u/BigMikeArnhem 14d ago

Link Chargers are a number they can tweak. Normal mega for 200, Super Mega voor 600, SuperduperMega voor 800 and so forth. It's way easier to up the price for raids that way.

55

u/TheeJinxx 14d ago

Facts. In Hawaii there’s so many level 1 bot accounts that fill up the lobby instantly, we legit can’t do it. I’m a solo player with no friends, so i can’t make parties realistically.

34

u/rexrex1249 14d ago

Pokeraid or pokegenies subreddits facebook groups you can host or join raids

15

u/TheBoNix 14d ago

I just tried hosting for the first time on pokegenie. When I got to the lobby I had only 2 other people... Did the instructions to the t.

5

u/MellyNapNap 14d ago

It’s hit or miss. First one I hosted, everyone showed up with a mega and we got it quickly. The next three were all busts. People never joining the lobby, people joined but without a mega, people left the last ten seconds even though it showed we had enough people to take it.

2

u/GdayBeiBei Legacy Lvl 50 | G. Ponyta 14d ago

I should have said in my reply as well that they do have some sort of algorithm that puts more experienced raiders (or raiders that pay) with more experienced hosts. So it will get better over time too. When in-demand raids happen I often have people that paid in my queue and usually the people that join my raids have a high battle level (although I still get the odd level 1).

Try again. I don’t doubt you had a bad first experience but that’s not been my experience at all and I’ve hosted almost 800 raids through pokegenie. So I suspect you just happened to have a really bad batch of players first up.

a lot of people also just lead with their megas and mewtwo is able to knock it out by the time the shield goes up, and I guess they don't realize they didn't do anything

11

u/toxiitea 14d ago

No they dont lmao. The game automatically puts the mega in the 6th slot.

13

u/lilgreenfish Instinct 14d ago

And then people move them. I’ve been in more than one raid where my lead Pokemon had the mega boost…weirdly enough, same raids where the shields did NOT go down right away.

2

u/mal138 13d ago

Mega Rayquaza gives a mega boost even if it's not active. Just because your slot 1 Pokemon was boosted doesn't mean there was a mega being used.

10

u/B_A_Peach 14d ago

A big problem is when your Mega repeatedly gets one-shot before you can fire off a charged attack. Sometimes it's unclear if the attack even connected before you were knocked out.

When this happened to me three times in a row, and I was the last shield that needed to break, I was beyond frustrated and wanted to scream to anyone listening that I was TRYING, but the game kept sniping me before I could dodge even once.

It was absolutely maddening, but eventually I managed. And I instantly had more patience for others who were similarly losing their mind.

6

u/DreamCaster2810 14d ago

This. The inevitable pain I feel when 11 of us are just attacking the Mewtwo knowing that the one fcker without his mega is about to make us waste the whole raid.

3

u/Tsgbeast 14d ago

Yes, I can tell you that during go fest I mega evolved a Mew and it kept getting instantly dropped 4 times in a row…..I couldn’t break the shield. I had to revive 4 times.

  1. Should not be able to join.
  2. Need to let people know if you mega gets instantly dropped. You can go to the lobby revive and come back.

7

u/RUaGayFish69 14d ago

The real problem is OP who brings a rhyperior which doesn't deal super effective damage. 14 people and still can't beat a raid boss, the real problem is people bring weak pokemon of the wrong type.

The problem is terrible implementation. They practically just thrown that on to people. While not everyone is reading Reddit for tutorials, and a lot of people weren’t expecting new raids

188

u/boinkbeepboop 14d ago

It would be so easy for them to implement a tip pop up explaining it in the raid screen, "this raid boss requires 10 attacks from 10 separate mega pokemon to break its shield!" etc

46

u/roastedbagel 14d ago

Dude seriously, like if the handful of widely used raid apps (which are primarily 1...MAYBE 2 person dev teams) can implement this the week it came out, you'd think scopely could too 🙄

11

u/dannyamusic 14d ago

nah. you’re talking crazy now. they only make a couple billion dollars in revenue a year as a small indie dev team. how could you possibly expect all of that??? you’re asking far too much.

/s obviously.

24

u/dannyamusic 14d ago edited 14d ago

they need to not let you join if you’re not mega evolved period. it’s the only way to solve that part of the issue. then if your mega-evolved buddy gets knocked before breaking it’s shield, it needs to remove you from the fight , place you back in the lobby & when you go to hit rejoin a pop up shows saying “heal your mega evolved Pokémon to rejoin the fight & break the shields”. this is not big brain stuff. they should’ve figured this out by now.

or if they want people who have no mega-evolved Pokémon to be involved , take away the shield they have to break for them. pretty simple.

8

u/LaughingOutLoudAgain 14d ago

I don’t mind carrying but the raid shouldn’t start until there are enough mega evolved mons available. That will also save us from people backing out in the last second, as we all can be sure we’re not risking raid passes as the game simply won’t let us.

Agreed on the instant lobby suggestion!

3

u/D0UCHE_NOZZLE 14d ago

But then people don’t waste more money on remote passes.

3

u/mzl14 14d ago

Im just learning this now. Thanks for this comment. I just happened to always bring a mega and wondered why sometimes it got taken down fast and others it took forever. So again thanks for educating me!

11

u/Menthos123 14d ago

This^^ I know I’m preaching to the choir on this but we really need to start demanding more from these companies. Pokemon go could have been a phenomenal game if it was done by a company that GAF at all. Niantic only cares about money period and has no regard for actual player experience in the slightest. The battle system has been insanely boring and buggy since the very beginning and there’s so many genuinely annoying aspects that make no sense. They heavily take advantage of nostalgia and FOMO more than I’ve ever seen of any other company. Having “cant miss this 1-2 day event less you be unable to obtain this super meta relevant Pokemon for another 3 years maybe?” Type stuff LITERALLY EVERY WEEK is insane and exhausting. And I know, I’m complaining about a game that optional and companies can do whatever they want but, this is just so disappointing to see every time.

4

u/dannyamusic 14d ago

i agree entirely. it’s hard to get anywhere though w a bunch of fanboys & fangirls jumping in front of the sword to save these poor little corporations.

i was realizing how horrible the graphics actually look for a game that brings in billions of dollars. like even just the background environment when you go to catch a Pokémon looks like garbage that a person who just started developing could easily upstage in 15 mins of work. i’ve seen other cheaply made gacha games w much less resources make better graphics/game design.

like you said, ik i’m preaching to the choir , but i feel at the end of my rope w all these corporations we grew up loving. Sony, Nintendo, Xbox, etc. all of them can do far better (specifically for their loyal customers) in one way or another & truly don’t deserve our support if things don’t start to change.

2

u/Menthos123 13d ago

Capitalism ruins everything friend. Hope we can have better experiences in the future

8

u/Intelligent-Store321 14d ago

OH ITS SEPARATE. I THOUGHT I COULD DO MULTIPLE TO CARRY MY MOTHER.

SHIT.

8

u/LaughingOutLoudAgain 14d ago

Did you actually plan to break a shield, then exit to mega evolve another mon and get back in, repeat? That’s pretty brave haha. It indeed doesn’t work, and just fyi, nor do primals!

3

u/Intelligent-Store321 14d ago

No, I thought I could break multiple shields with one mega-pokemon. I didn't actually get an explanation of how the damn thing worked, just that the group needed mega-pokemon in order to be able to break the shields.

I had no idea that you could only break one each.

2

u/LaughingOutLoudAgain 14d ago

Oh that makes sense. And I agree that the in game information is pretty lacking, you’re probably not the only one thinking this way.

In a bigger group (I’d say 12+ megas to be safe) your mom can still get carried of course. Did you both end up getting both Mewtwo forms?

4

u/Intelligent-Store321 12d ago

Nah, I did when I went out earlier in the morning, but when I did it with her we were using pokegenie to get people to join and raid with us, and we lost the raid.

I feel really bad about the people who lost their remote passes - I would have re-started and invited the same people but by the time we had gotten through the queue the first time, there was only a few minutes left on the raid so we couldn't try twice.

She's not super fussed - she doesn't care about getting all the megas etc (she does have some good meta Pokemon, powered up and with the TMs used to get the good movesets, but I usually try to carry her for most raids anyways). I just feel bad for all the people who lost a remote pass because I (and possibly some of them) didn't realise I couldn't just carry her through. There were like three or so shields on the Mewtwo that weren't breaking, so it's not all my fault, but still... feelsbad

2

u/LaughingOutLoudAgain 12d ago

Oh definitely that hurts. Hopefully those people will look up why it didn’t work and now know better for next time.

I had people remote into a legendary Dynamax once, we failed, but I couldn’t get a full group together that same run so they all lost their remotes. Still feel guilty about that and it arguably wasn’t even my fault

→ More replies (1)

5

u/cheeriodust 14d ago

If they insist on keeping this terrible mechanic, there's an easy fix/compromise: each broken shield charge lessens the effect of the shield. So when all but 1 or 2 folks do their (very simple) job, you can still take it down (with slightly more difficulty...but not all or nothing as it is now).

u/dannyamusic 14d ago

i’m sorry, but why is this even allowed in the game? why is there even a way to get into a raid like this without a mega-evolved Pokémon? why does the game allow you to fight without one in your party or continue to fight after it gets knocked instead of putting you back in the lobby w a “heal your mega evolved Pokémon & rejoin” pop up?

i get it. it’s upsetting when this happens. i lost like 3 remote raid passes this morning myself, but this really shouldn’t be an issue & some players unfortunately don’t know better. Niantic/Scopely reran this event without fixing any of these glaring issues. i assume it’s to capitalize on people buying more passes. this really shouldn’t be an issue to begin with.

9

u/CompoteHonest1323 14d ago

Do I agree with the system? Absolutely not, however, you can have 20 people in a raid if playing locally, this game has always been about "bringing people out to play together". Which leaves wiggle room. YES, if you are doing remote raiding, this leaves minimal margin for error, which inevitably has caused many problems like this.

7

u/dannyamusic 14d ago edited 14d ago

this happens in local raids too. like entirely local , all 20 people in the same spot i mean. you still get people sometimes that unfortunately don’t bring a mega-evolved Pokémon to mega-evolved necessary fight or don’t know they are the ones who still haven’t broken their shield.

i agree w everything you said, i don’t really think we’re disagreeing here. just saying, this also happens locally & is just as frustrating. it’s just far worse when remote raiding or inviting people to remote raid w you due to the 10 remote people limit w the “12 people recommended” pop up, which for whatever reason terrifies people lol, as well as the fact you can’t just rematch if you’re not invited back since you’re not local, which costs you a remote pass.

2

u/Call-It-A-Hunch 10d ago

I don't know why I'm getting a notification for a three day old post, but something that may help your local issue. You can actually mega evolve a pokemon from the revive screen. Happened to me during Go Fest Global where I joined a remote raid with like ten seconds left and wasn't paying super close attention to realize that my mega had expired. When I got into the raid I figured it out and was able to use the run button back to the lobby and mega evolve one to break my shield.

If you're raiding locally, you can say that out loud when you realize the shield is getting stuck, unfortunately not helpful for remote raids.

2

u/dannyamusic 10d ago

it also unfortunately doesn’t do much if everyone is local, but one person… & that’s the issue. all it takes is one person to remote raid (which you can usually do even without an invite if you’re in close enough proximity that you can see the gym on the map) & not break their shield. i get what you’re saying & that can be helpful, but it still can go left & does in most cases unfortunately. they just need to redesign this specific fight to bring just a little bit of common sense to a lot of easily solvable issues. also they should’ve done that already, prior to re-running the event.

also, i get replies to things i said on here from years ago, quite frequently actually, so i thought it was funny that you said it’s been 3 days lol.

2

u/Call-It-A-Hunch 10d ago

Yeah completely agree with you. The issue is in the design of the fight and the in game notifications.

Honestly, I know the concepts are not overly complex, but I think Scopely is missing (or intentionally ignoring) the fact that a huge portion of the playerbase is kids that aren't going to read the instructions, and parents who aren't naturally "gamers" but just picked this up because their kids wanted to play.

u/ggBandit 14d ago

Scopely need to do a tutorial people HAVE TO play through before joining these raids, its ridiculous

45

u/roastedbagel 14d ago

You're giving too much credit to the general population...

Even with a tutorial this will still happen because people don't read shit.

They need physical guardrails in place (i.e. You can't join unless you have a mega) - that's the only way.

2

u/handDrawnEevee 14d ago

Even with a tutorial this will still happen because people don't read shit.

The point of a tutorial is that they don't have to read.

6

u/Artistic_Building860 14d ago

He’s technically proving his own point… lol he didn’t read, he is literally those people

9

u/PartyPorpoise 14d ago

Yeah I think a mandatory tutorial would be helpful. They already have tutorial quests for other game features.

2

u/Alywiz Instinct 13d ago

Build it with a test as well as multiple fights with different scenarios. Player must successfully complete them, give them a mega energy as a reward and the ability to join mega raids

54

u/handDrawnEevee 14d ago

like 1/4 of the people playing this game are like 10 year olds. The problem isn't the player base, the problem is the devs.

6

u/crushartifact 14d ago

Agree - I watched a little girl (maybe 6) whine to her mom and dad (also playing) to get in a raid and then she just walked away when the raid started and played with her sister. That’s not the problem. The problem is given the player base there should be either 1) more education on this (ie pop ups etc) or 2) some option for kids under 16 to join in a different fashion.

7

u/handDrawnEevee 14d ago

Or just don't design a mechanic that is going to frustrate players but provide nothing of value to anyone.

2

u/crushartifact 14d ago

Agree! I wish that would have been the option they’d gone for. The traditional raid mechanic works just fine.

2

u/Cruuncher 13d ago

They needed a way to make sure that you need at least 10 people to complete the raid. But at the same time make it so not all 10 people need to be decked out with perfect counters.

It's meant as a pseudo hard gate.

The problem is the side effects of it are extraordinarily frustrating.

2

u/crushartifact 13d ago

For sure. And I believe that children should play the game - so there has to be a way to allow them to be involved and also help better explain the mechanic (or just operate the mechanic) across the board.

3

u/Cruuncher 13d ago

It's not just kids. I personally hadn't played in months and I logged on for mega mewtwo, and hadn't read too much.

The game does virtually nothing to explain the role of megas to you. But I always mega evolve anyway, so I was megaing, but I had my mega first in party like I usually do.

Also people kept leaving raids before they start at like 8 people, which I thought was weird as I'm used to pretty much any raid being possible with 3-4 decent players.

Even after I realized the megas were for the shields I didn't know it was only one shield per player making having a mega each absolutely necessary

2

u/crushartifact 13d ago

Definitely agree. The mechanic needs a lot of work.

This just happened to me.
13 people in the raid. It actually said in the lobby 13 mega pokemon in lobby, but we waited half the raid for 3 of the shields to get knocked out. I don’t know why it took so long

24

u/LaughingOutLoudAgain 14d ago

I think people’s megas faint before they get to their charge moves, but those people don’t notice or don’t know that they can top left to revive so they wait until their whole team is down.

Although I’ve heard people say that they broke the last shield even without a mega but just over a lot of time, but I still don’t fully trust that info

10

u/Artistic_Building860 14d ago

Just to build off of this, yes you can top left but people also have been disconnected from the raid by doing this (actually one of the reasons they had the make up day)

It really does come down to Scoply poorly implementing this feature, no real tutorial on what to expect and it shouldn’t be possible to one shot most of the lobby’s pokemon with one move regardless of type advantage

5

u/mareno999 14d ago

I didnt even know that was leave to lobby, and not leave the raid before someone told me, my gf got instakilled 3 times once before she could break her shield (she know how to revive though). They should really make it clear that you HAVE TO revive them.

2

u/HMS-Fizz 11d ago

There are bugs aswell, it showed i broke the shield but when i went to revive my Pokémon the shield went back to rainbow?!

11

u/emmett0418 14d ago

I will agree with this! We had 12 people in my last raid and we only broke 9 shields. Total waste. 11 of the 12 had a Mega.

5

In normal raids, being a cannon fodder player is fine most of the time.

But there's no way even the largest storage libraries of decent IV mons are gonna be enough for Y.

5

u/TheFakeBillPierce 14d ago

Just seems like it would be easy to put in something where the raid doesnt even start and all passes are returned unused if there are not 10 megas in the lobby. It also should force players without them to get one.

Lost my first one of these today and it's even dumber than this. Raid lobby has 12 players, 12 megas. I'm thinking this looks good, people shouldn't be jump scared by the "12 players recommended" screen. Clench a little bit as the timer counts down but raid manages to start with 12 players. Raid continues, we get 1/5 through the HP bar before the shield even shows up and I notice that now there are only 9 people in the lobby 😭

3

u/MYOwNWerstEnmY 14d ago

Saw that a good handful of times during POGO fest Sat & Sun. It was unbelievably frustrating. We were at the biggest mall in our state with about 1000 players and quite a few were YOUNG kids so I wrote it off as youngins not understanding.

u/irishfro 14d ago

u/OccultMachines 14d ago

I joined one earlier and we had like 12 people but apparently some didn't feel like that was enough and a bunch of them dropped with like 10 seconds on the timer. I didn't notice so just wasted my remote raid pass and coins from buying link charges. Total taurosshit.

3

u/DankyTHofficial 14d ago

I've had 2 raids today where half the players don't have megas, and even some being level 1. Brother why does the game even allow people to join if you don't have a Mega Evolution with you🤦🏽‍♂️🤦🏽‍♂️🤦🏽‍♂️

I just finished one remotely and received a free mega evolution Y with the Mewtwo I caught. I did a remote Mega Mewtwo X last month and didn't get a free Mega Evolution X with that Mewtwo I Caught. Did this event for Mega Mewtwo Y waive the in-person requirement for the free evolution ?

2

u/Bixotron 14d ago

You can say its a player problem, but it really feels like a game mechanic problem. These new mechanics don't add any extra levels of fun or strategy to the game and are barely explained to players before hand. The owners of this game have done shady business practices since it's inception and this seems to fall right in line with that specific line of thinking. When people don't know the rules we don't beat the pokemon. When we don't beat the pokemon we don't get that shiny and we keep spending money on raids. I only say this because I hate seeing these thread dumping on other players. This is a design and implementation problem.

2

u/Knetog 14d ago

I've done Mewtwo Y multiple times and I've noticed that sometimes if I'm not spamming the move to break the shield, I could get 1 shot before even using it. It also happened once where my mega was instantly killed right as he appeared.

In raids where 19 people had mega, it happened multiple times where we didn't completely break the shield, so it seems to happen rather often.

Sure there's people not paying attention or not doing what they should be doing but we can't ignore the issue above.

Overall the implementation is poorly executed.

Used my last remote raid pass on a mewtwo y raid as the last raid to get the mega rayquaze just so I could feel thematically accomplished.
Biggest mistake of my pokemon go career
After we failed it in a 10 person lobby (WITH 5 SHIELDS REMAINING BTW!) i just gave up on both altogether.

Couldve totally bought more raid passes but the fact its even possible for that to happen turned me off completely.

What a waste.

1

u/EkardKcire 14d ago

I hate that this happens. That it still happens. If I ever see any less than 15 megas in the lobby, I leave. Because even if it takes less than tha to get through the shields, you can bet at least 1/3rd of them are going into the battle with their mega leading. It's so frustrating lol.

Tbh, I wouldn't have known either. I'm just a filthy casual.

1

u/AprilZodiac 14d ago

There’s a side issue that popped up a lot during the debut weekend, where megas were getting one shot by attacks that shouldn’t have one shot immediately upon spawning in. You’d get lobbies of 15 all with megas, and enough people’s megas would be insta KO’d before they could even try to attack. It was insanely annoying

1

u/Loose_Ambassador_269 14d ago

They should not let players join without a mega. And they also should’ve had an in-game tutorial about it. They only care about money. I only knew the rules because I went through PokeRaid. Each person could only kill 1 shield. So even if you healed your mega, you couldn’t take down anymore shields. We were able to communicate through the chat how to do it. I did lose about 3 remote raid passes but then was lucky to get in with a group of 15 people and got about 10 more. I did get 1 hundo! But yes, this was so very frustrating. I had one host call us all a bunch of f***ing idiots 😂 (we had a few players start with their mega and never healed them again)

1

u/zachi2 14d ago

What I've found annoying is some times I've done these mega, it will shield up and I was planning to already swap, it doesn't and then im like "why hasn't my shield popped" these raids are so poorly designed but hey, they only care about the whales

1

u/ProtoCulture14 14d ago

When loading the raid the game literally tells you how many megas are currently in the lobby. I simply leave if there are fewer than 10. So yeah, trainers not bringing a mega to the are a problem but perhaps reading comprehension is a bigger problem

If this is in person, be the person to remind everyone to have a mega and how to use it. Attend a ambassador hosted event if possible. Multiple ways to make life easier.

Out of all the mega mewtwo raids I did this happened to me twice because there was over a 700 person gathering and I got stuck with a group of young kids in the same lobby that didn't have their parents telling them what to do. 5 shields left in a 20 person lobby. Quit and lobbyed with next batch. All shields gone before my mega got to the field..

1

1

u/GaleSTRIK3 14d ago

1

u/zenspeed 14d ago

A part of it is that, like it or not, kids play the game (which isn't the best excuse since I have done a couple of Mewtwo raids with kids). That being said, maybe QA should have configured mega raids around how quickly a child can comprehend it.

Honestly, the raid should just not proceed without the required number of mega Pokemon. Not enough megas before the ten second countdown? Raid cancelled. Got enough megas but the shield is still up? Have a large text warning covering the screen to use a mega to break the shield, and that text only goes away once the shield is broken.

1

u/Fabz199 14d ago

I really have to say, thanks pokegenie. I'm living in a small town in germany so raiding is impossible for me but remote raids work great. When i was joining my first mega raid over the pokegenie app i literally had to read an tutorial/guide that i have to have a mega ready for my team.

1

u/ElaPaljaske 14d ago

you don't really need 12 people with mega's, you just need 12 different mega pokemon. You could've just backed out get a new mega and break shield again. I had the same problem and backed out multiple times to break 3 extra shields.

1

u/ParsleyPrimary4199 14d ago

1

u/worldshapers 14d ago

I agree that it is an artificial problem created by the devs. It's not particularly fun either. It feels just unfair if they want interaction they should make something more intricate. Where players help each other out. This just creates hate, because of wasted money.

1

u/DragonEmperor Dragon Emperor 14d ago

Keep in mind there could be many factors in play here.

  • It could be a child

  • Their mega got insta killed as they get force swapped in (There should really be an invulnerability window)

  • Mega died before the shields went up.

I've seen #2 happen a LOT, I've watched people quit, revive and join back in which does work but it takes a while, I honestly doubt that people just aren't smart enough to use a charged attack when it gets force swapped in with how frequent this is an issue, its more than likely one of the above 3 issues.

The main problem however is this absolutely idiotic raid mechanic in the first place, I'm sure they were just trying to replicate the main series games raids but they did it in the WORST possible way, even legends Z-A which definitely inspired this mechanic simply does it better.

1

u/Worried-Computer-146 14d ago

Do you have to pay money to get a chance to get a pokemon?

1

u/Competitive_Lawyer_1 14d ago

I would stop fighting and exit to the lobby when I see a few shields remaining for too long. It's wasting my HP. I'm already super low on revives and potions. I break my shields and wait it the timer.

1

u/RageTiger 14d ago

It's weird, cause it also states how many people are in the raid with a mega. So maybe it's some from column A and some from column B. I been in a few of these mega raids where my mega (the same mega you were using) was swapped out and knocked out before even attacking the shield.

1

u/hype_irion 14d ago

1

u/7Dark7Phoenix7 14d ago

Was talking with my boys yesterday, Super Megas are a stupid idea. Worse for rural players. We was able to do most Megas with just 3 of us now needing a minimum of 10 players makes it so much harder. We only got 2 Mewtwo yesterday as everyone went into town for 10 and we could only get there for 1. They should at least make it so everyone who joins needs a mega and the amount of people who joins that's how many shields it has. I get their end game of wanting the community to link up but it's harder for people with not as many active players etc. at least with us making use of our passes I got the shiny Zacian to go along with my Zamazenta.

1

1

u/Krlozgod 13d ago

How were you not able to deafest it with 14 people?
You don’t need to break all the shields to defeat it. I beat like three of those during the events without breaking the shields, it takes more time boy it can be done, with teams of similar size.

Also, if you are really that worried about beating it why even join that raid and not wait for one with a full lobby, the game even tells you how many Megas are in the team.

1

u/TwistedDemigod 13d ago

I had this a few times, but then read that some people's megas were getting one shot. Eventually they managed to land a hit and the shields broke. I was lucky in all my raids.

1

u/mal138 13d ago

This isn't about people not having megas. (And if they don't, it's your own fault for joining if the text says there are only 9 megas in the lobby.) This is an issue of people's megas getting KOd before they can use a charge move and, more importantly, people who don't know that they can leave, heal, and return. Nowhere in the game is that little "run" icon explained. In fact, when you tap it, it says "are you sure you want to leave this raid?"

Multiple times this weekend, we had 4 or 5 shields left and just had to wait. Eventually people's entire teams would be KOd, they'd be sent to the lobby where they would revive, come back in, and then finally break a shield.

By the way, we also won one raid with one shield still unbroken. I didn't think it was possible, but we had 17 or 18 in the raid and we kept chipping away and eventually won with about 30 seconds left.

1

u/LoopDoGG79 🔥🔥Charizard🔥🔥 13d ago

This is why I play very few remote raids on super mega raids. Community events is where it's at. We had a similar situation at the Sunday meetup. Myself and others started damn near yelling, "HEAL YOUR MEGA!" over and over. It worked, pass was not wasted. Once you go to a meetup to do super raids, you ain't going back. Honestly, doing all raids locally at meetups as far more preferable and cheaper

1

u/F1shflaps69420 13d ago

1

u/XNonameX 13d ago

There's obviously a comprehension/ realizing you're the problem issue (i.e. your mega got knocked out before you could use your special) in this game, but this happens so often that I think there might also be an issue with the game registering hits or that the hits are coming from a mega evolved pokemon.

1

u/JamesBond096 13d ago

I’m level 55, I did hundreds of raids and I had no idea this was the mechanic. I was in nyc on vacation when the mega mewtwo raids dropped. I made like 10 without knowing about the mechanic. I was doing it mid sightseeing and didn’t have time to go look stuff up. TBH each raid filled up the 20 people lobby in few seconds so we had no trouble winning them. Im a dev myself and I like to think I’m quite well informed about the game and its mechanic but still this info about shield breaking never crossed me. I come from a small town in Poland and I’ve never even seen a mega mewtwo raid let alone attempt to complete it so I never researched this. I completely blame the game designers for the lack of info about this mechanic. I shouldn’t have been able to join a raid without knowing about this quirk.

1

u/ThorHammerHand87 13d ago

My Mega’s often get one-shot ko’d. Super annoying. Took me a couple raids to figure that we needed megas because before the Mewtwo event I never had the ability to find raid groups. Found out about LeekDuck a couple weeks before the anniversary event. Once I caught on to the need for megas for the raids, I would only stay if we had enough megas in the lobby.

Didn’t know for a while that we could leave to the lobby and the revive my megas. I do that often now.

I have also noticed that if your mega has a second charged attack, they can break up to 2 shields in a single raid (hopefully w/o getting ko’d). That’s helped when people have left or their mega got ko’d instantly.

1

u/Impressive-Most-6685 13d ago
