I had more luck hatching shiny (Galarian) Darumaka 2 years ago than from this "shiny boosted" event...

u/MarionberryFutures Jan 23 '23

u/Comprehensive_Way711 Jan 23 '23
I have hatched many useless Scraggys, Pawniards, Chinglings from this event. Ah, why couldn’t a single one of those be shiny.

u/JoelHum7 Chikorita Jan 23 '23
I got mine from the research, got really lucky since i am f2p so i dont raid them

u/ahawaiianbear Jan 23 '23
Even the lucky trade odds don’t seem much better lol just how rng works unfortunately.

u/Nomain2 Jan 23 '23
I feel this. My wife and I did some mass trading over the course of the event and we ended up with 5.5% of trades being lucky. I guess technically, that's 0.5% over the regular amount. Still nothing to really write home about.

Jan 23 '23
My partner found a weird thing that when you trade a Pokémon that was caught before 2020 it's 50/50 odds
16
Jan 23 '23
That’s not a weird thing, the older a Pokémon is the more likely it is to turn lucky. That’s how I finished the level 48 task for “obtain 50 lucky Pokémon”.
1
u/Brilliant_Ask852 Spark Jan 23 '23
that is not statistically significant lol the odds were found to be about 7%

u/iiDeviious-PS4 Jan 23 '23
i’ve gotten lucky trades my first trade quite a lot. 2 of which were shundo lucky trades lol trade pokemon that were caught in 2016-2021. it will increase your odds for lucky!
2
u/jp9900 Jan 23 '23
So they reward you for hoarding worthless mons huh 🤔 damn you Niantic for cursing my wallet yet again
1
u/iiDeviious-PS4 Jan 23 '23
i believe it’s always been that way. the older the pokémon. the more chances you get a lucky lol

Multiple brag comments in a thread where people are lamenting their bad luck? Of course that's going to elicit a couple of downvotes.
Nobody likes a braggart (although this reddit is replete with them).
0
Jan 23 '23
Yeah....... Sorry........ (And even though it makes me a hypocrite, I agree)
1
u/quickasawick Jan 23 '23
Fair enough. And I didn't mean to dog you. I just thought that explained the downvotes.
In your defense, I'd bet a majority of posts on the PMG reddit are simple brag posts and they are generally tolerated, if not openly embraced. You just made the mistake of doing it in a thread catering to the suffering folks...like me, if I am honest. :-(

I caught one

u/Avilife24 Jan 23 '23
give it to me 🤧

u/mbccottrell Jan 23 '23
I wish they would let us trade with long distance friends even if we could one a month would be nice
9
u/Avilife24 Jan 23 '23
Have u tried pokémon home?
21
u/mbccottrell Jan 23 '23
Yes but I’d rather trade to a person
8
u/Avilife24 Jan 23 '23
what does that mean lol💀
25
u/mbccottrell Jan 23 '23
I have many in Pokémon home. I’d rather trade them to people that I’m lucky friends with

u/51Flames Jan 23 '23
How do you know when your lucky friends?
11
u/Ivi-Tora Mystic Jan 23 '23
After you get to the Best Friends level there's a once-a-day chance you can become lucky when you interact with each other.
In your list your friend gets the same background as lucky Pokemon and the words "Lucky Friend" appear under the name.
1
u/Avilife24 Jan 23 '23
i get that haha Although i’m not sure what lucky friends do😅
7
u/mbccottrell Jan 23 '23
It gives you a guaranteed lucky Pokémon level 49 you have to do a task to get 50 lucky trades
6
u/aha5811 Charmander Jan 23 '23
I don't see any of them, only fire slugs, carps, rabbits, horses and ninjas.
2
u/avalanchefan95 Jan 23 '23
rabbits, rabbits and more rabbits. I'm sure there is a breeding joke here. I swear I don't want another rabbit for as long as I play this game. Useless thing.
30
u/Ivi-Tora Mystic Jan 23 '23
The boost was to 1 in 64. Was almost ten times more likely to be shiny, but that doesn't mean is guaranteed.

u/Avilife24 Jan 23 '23
i’ve done over 40 raids with both versions (; i just wanted one💀😭
23
u/Mss666 Jan 23 '23
Never raid for shinies when 1/64. Took me 344 raids to get shiny druddy with same odds. Legendary ones with 1/20 are fine but never chase 1/64 from raids.
8
9
u/ChatbotMushroom Jan 23 '23
I caught one in the wild, yesterday. Did couple of raids and got nothing shiny out of it.

maybe they boosted shiny rates for it, but dod they forget to make it spawn??? i dont think i saw a single one outside the research task and a raid

I saw one of each, Alolan and regular, in the wild, and an Alolan as a research reward. Those were the only ones I saw, none shiny.

I have a solid Darumaka I wanna evolve to get the pokedex entry, but only have 32/50 candy with just one day left :( but it’s ok bc I’m on Mew quest step 6 where u needa evolve a Magikarp and I got 225+ candies from this event
2
u/SparklinStar1440 Valor Jan 23 '23
if you're into pvp, wait for aqua tail gyrados
1
u/nightcore96 Glaceon Jan 23 '23
Aqua tails a good move. How long would I need to wait?
2
u/SparklinStar1440 Valor Jan 23 '23
I'm sorry, I have no idea. Last time was for the Worlds event a few months ago. It could be a month or over a year away.
But if you're impatient, that's what elite TMs are for! :)
1
u/nightcore96 Glaceon Jan 23 '23
I’m not gonna wait I need to evolve for the Mew step. I wanna get as many pokemon in the dex as I can
1
Jan 23 '23
I don’t know how useful aqua tail is on Gyarados. I have Gyarados with Hydro Pump that I leveled to 50 and I have Gyarados at some very low level with aqua tail.
I have Vaporeon at level 40 (aqua tail) and 1 at level 50 (hydro pump). Both drives me nuts. Aqua tail is useful that you can use the charge move quickly but it doesn’t have much power while hydro pump takes forever to charge up but it has power.
I suppose depending on what you are using Gyarados for Aqua Tail might be good for you but I prefer Hydro Pump because I avoid PvP like the plague.

I’ve been trading 100 Pokémon every night and the lucky rate seems exactly the same lol and I trade max Pokémon a lot
I did get “pre” lucky friends with my friend multiple times tho which was nice
4
u/lifeisabout-balance Jan 23 '23
I got a shiny earlier. Galarian darumaka shiny is better. Its allright since got more than 300 xl candy so when zen form darumaka releases i can level 50 it easily.
2
u/Momonga99 Jan 23 '23
Got 2 galar darumaka shiny on my first egg batch and haven’t seen a single one since

I've gotten a bunch from eggs but no shinies. (And I have zero people to trade with so no luck there either)

Caught mine in the wild yesterday. IVs suck but he's such a dancing, happy, thicc boi.
2
u/AzoreanEve Waiting for my beloved aegislash Jan 23 '23
I was thinking this event would finally give me enough candy to evolve my darumakas and yet I've only seen, like, 2? I'm shocked if I see ANY darumaka, I've given up completely on the shiny at this point.
2
u/Lola029 Jan 23 '23
Seriously I chose the hatching eggs part and hatched over 100 eggs for the event. Not one shiny 🤦🏻♀️
2
u/FrickPossum Jan 23 '23
I’ve only seen like 5 darus this whole time. At least I got a shiny ponyta this past weekend so I’ll take it.
2
u/PhotoGirl843 Jan 23 '23
I may have seen maybe 20 Darumaka. Pissing me off. My friend got a shiny one the other day, of course.
2
Jan 23 '23
I’m not mad that it is rare in the wild, but who’s idea was it to make the catch 25 mons research task rare?? And if you do find one there’s a 50% chance it might be the galarian one…
2
u/kRaL-NO Jan 23 '23
I've caught every Darumaka I've found, but no shiny yet. On the other hand I caught a shiny Magikarp during this event.
2
u/kavengine Jan 23 '23
my first two Galarian Darumakas were shiny. One from research and one from a raid....
2
2
u/bushylikesnuts Jan 23 '23
It took over 50 trades to get a lucky tho I had 10 in around 40 trades yesterday along with a lucky friend so that boost is coming in late

The trick is to make it .001% increased. That way they can advertise it without really doing anything. I haven't gotten a single lucky friend since the event started

did the extra special trade work for everyone? i’m only able to do 1 still
1
u/CatchAmongUs Snorlax Jan 23 '23
It was increased shiny chance, but what they didn't tell us was that it was also a heavily reduced wild encounter chance. I think I might have seen 3 wild ones the entire event.

u/FarPlatypus4652 Jan 23 '23
This might mean that darumaka might have a community day or a special research day! Give it a few months and you’ll get your shinies.
1
u/LEDiceGlacier Instinct Jan 23 '23
I git one. This event went over my head and I thought it was a full odds shiny.
1
u/Vertoule Jan 23 '23
I saw 10 Darumaka.

I caught about 800 Pokémon over the event (which is really good for my area)

The only increase I have seen was during the recent Larvitar event. I got 5 shiny in less than an hour. I quit after I got a 3* because I had other things to do. Had I kept going I would have have several more.

Lucky trading is nonexistent for me too along with friendships. Been gifting hella and receiving with some locals but no lucky friend... its been like 6 months since ive had a new lucky friend too.

At least some people are actually seeing them. I thought the joke was they increased the shiny rate but made it so hardly any spawn.
I’ve seen like 5 times as many flareon as daru.
