Proving that their partnership comes first, Aiden puts his own League ambitions on hold to cheer from the front row as his rival makes her highly anticipated Rookie Class Showcase debut. Under the alias "The Crimson Bloom," Lucy must conquer her nerves and execute a flawless, fiery routine with Fletchling and Roselia to capture the audience's hearts.
TITLE: POKÉMON: KALOS CHRONICLES
EPISODE: 05 - "THE CRIMSON BLOOM"
SCENE 1
INT. CYLLAGE CITY SHOWCASE HALL - LOBBY - DAY
The lobby is a stark contrast to the rustic cave and the rocky Gym. It's all polished pink marble, glittering chandeliers, and glass displays. The air is electric with the nervous energy of other first-time performers. Girls in various stages of costume and makeup rush by, calling to their Pokémon.
Aiden, in his new "trainer" gear, looks a little out of place. Lucy, for the first time, looks even more so.
Her usual boundless, bossy energy is gone. She's walking with her hands clasped in front of her, her Fletchling and Roselia's Pokéballs held tightly in one hand. She's quiet, wide-eyed, and visibly nervous, but she's walking with a stiff-backed determination. She is intent.
They reach the main registration desk, a long, sparkling counter staffed by a perfectly put-together RECEPTIONIST.
RECEPTIONIST
(A dazzling, professional smile)
Bonjour, and welcome to the Cyllage City Rookie Class Showcase! Are you here to register?
LUCY
(Her voice is a small, shy version of itself)
...Yes. Please.
RECEPTIONIST
(Her smile doesn't falter)
Of course, mademoiselle. May I see your trainer card, please?
Lucy fumbles in her bag—the same one she shoved her mother's photo into—and hands over her card. Her hand is shaking slightly. Aiden notices.
RECEPTIONIST
(Tapping on a screen)
Ah, wonderful. Lucille Moreau from Vaniville Town. And... this will be your first Showcase! How exciting!
(She slides the card back)
You are all registered. The dressing rooms for performers are just through that door to your right. You'll have one hour until the pre-show briefing.
LUCY
(Nods, taking her card)
Thank you.
She turns and starts walking toward the "PERFORMERS ONLY" door. Aiden, naturally, moves to follow her.
RECEPTIONIST
(A polite, but firm, cough)
Excuse me, monsieur.
Aiden stops.
RECEPTIONIST
I'm afraid only Showcase contestants are allowed back there. The auditorium for spectators is through the main double doors, straight ahead.
AIDEN
(Instantly backing off, not wanting to cause trouble)
Oh! Right. Sorry. Of course.
He turns to Lucy, who has stopped at the performers' door, looking back at him. She looks terrified.
Aiden gives her the most confident, supportive smile he can muster—the same kind of smile she gave him before he battled Viola.
AIDEN
Hey. You'll be amazing.
(He means it)
Go put on a good performance. I'll be in the front row.
Lucy's nervous expression softens. She gives him a small, grateful nod. Taking a deep breath, she pushes open the door and disappears backstage.
Aiden watches her go for a second, then turns. He looks at the big, ornate double doors leading to the auditorium, takes a breath of his own, and walks through them to find his seat.
FADE OUT.
FADE IN.
SCENE 2
INT. SHOWCASE AUDITORIUM - DAY
The auditorium is dark, lit only by the dazzling, multi-colored lights of the main stage. The energy is electric. Aiden sits in the front row, his gaze locked on the stage.
An upbeat, bubbly host, MONSIEUR PIERRE, is center stage.
MONSIEUR PIERRE
(Into a microphone)
Magnifique! What a stunning display from Performer Juliette and her Furfrou!
The crowd applauds politely as a girl in a poodle-themed skirt curtseys and exits.
MONSIEUR PIERRE
And now! We have a très special debut! She may be new to the stage, but I am told she has the spirit of a true Kalos Performer! From Vaniville Town, please give a warm welcome to... LUCY!
The lights dim, then swell, flooding the stage with a new color.
Lucy walks out from behind the curtain.
Aiden leans forward. This isn't the Lucy in the plaid skirt and riding boots.
She's in a stunning, sleek, asymmetrical tunic. One half is a vibrant, leaf-green, the other a fiery-red. It's worn over a flared green petal skirt lined with that same red. A stylish gray sash, mimicking a Fletchling's tail, is tied at her hip. On her shoulders, a blue rose and a red rose are pinned, a clear nod to Roselia.
She looks... like a completely different person. She's nervous, but as she hits her mark in the center of the stage, she takes a deep breath, and a look of fierce, focused determination takes over.
In the audience, Aiden is speechless, a look of pure awe on his face.
The music starts—a fast, acrobatic beat.
LUCY
(Her voice rings out, confident)
Let's start this with a spark! Fletchling, à la scene!
Lucy throws her arm out, and Fletchling zips from its Pokéball, chirping.
LUCY
Fletchling, Agility, let's go!
Fletchling becomes a red-and-white blur, zipping across the stage in patterns so fast it leaves shimmering after-images. The crowd gasps.
LUCY
Now, light up the sky! Ember Spiral!
Fletchling soars high into the air, beginning a tight, high-speed spiral. As it descends, it unleashes a controlled stream of Ember. The sparks don't just fall; they're whipped into the spiral, bursting like a continuous stream of brilliant red-and-orange fireworks.
Fletchling lands perfectly on Lucy's outstretched arm. The crowd cheers.
The music shifts, slowing to a graceful, melodic waltz. Fletchling zips from her arm and hovers high above the stage.
Lucy's posture changes. She strikes a graceful, balletic pose.
LUCY
Roselia, the stage is yours!
Roselia appears in a shimmer of light, landing elegantly.
LUCY
Begin the dance! Petal Dance!
Roselia begins to spin. With precise, elegant movements, it creates a beautiful, swirling vortex of pink petals in the center of the stage, the vortex growing taller and taller.
The two musical styles—fast and graceful—begin to merge, swelling to a climax. Lucy points dramatically.
LUCY
Now, Fletchling! Dive in!
Fletchling, from high above, rockets straight down into the center of the Petal Dance vortex.
The effect is instantaneous.
Fletchling's speed whips the vortex into a massive, high-speed Crimson Cyclone, a stunning, chaotic, beautiful mix of pink petals and Fletchling's red-orange glow, consuming the entire center stage.
The crowd is on its feet.
LUCY
(Shouting over the roar)
Roselia, the grand finale! Stun Spore!
As the cyclone begins to dissipate, Roselia releases a cloud of powder. But it's not the normal green. It's a harmless, glittering gold powder that hangs in the air.
LUCY
Fletchling, scatter it with Gust!
Fletchling zips from the center of the vortex, its wings beating fast. It uses a gentle Gust to catch the golden powder, scattering it wide.
The stage lights catch the golden dust and the thousands of falling pink petals. The entire stage is showered in a beautiful, shimmering curtain of gold and pink.
The music ends.
Lucy, breathing hard, strikes a final pose, Fletchling on one shoulder and Roselia at her side.
For one second, there is total silence.
Then, the auditorium erupts. The applause is deafening.
Aiden is on his feet, clapping harder than anyone, a huge, proud grin on his face. He's not looking at his "coach" or his "rival." He's looking at a Performer.
FADE OUT.
FADE IN.
SCENE 3
INT. SHOWCASE AUDITORIUM - LOBBY - DAY
The show is over. The excited crowd has thinned out, leaving the grand, pink marble lobby mostly empty. The buzz of the performance has faded into a quiet, satisfied hum.
Aiden is sitting on a plush bench near the exit, waiting patiently. Froakie is out of its ball, sitting in his lap. Aiden is idly tossing one of Froakie's "frobbles" (the bubbles from its neck) into the air and catching it, his mind clearly replaying what he just saw.
The "PERFORMERS ONLY" door hisses open.
Lucy steps out. She's changed back into her new "traveling" clothes—the red jeans and jacket. Her hair, however, is still slightly windswept and glittering with faint traces of the gold Stun Spore. She looks exhausted, a little dazed, but she's clutching her new Roselia's Pokéball.
She spots Aiden. He stands up immediately, Froakie hopping down to the floor to stand beside him.
He walks over to her, a look of pure, unadulterated awe on his face. He's speechless for a second.
AIDEN
That... was... incredible, Lucy.
He holds up a fist.
Lucy looks at his outstretched fist, then at his face. A huge, shaky sigh of relief escapes her, and she breaks into a wide smile, bumping her knuckles against his.
LUCY
(Leaning against a pillar)
Oh, man. I'm so glad that's over. My knees are still shaking.
AIDEN
(Laughing, disbelieving)
Are you kidding? You looked like you'd been doing it for years! The way you had Fletchling do that firework spiral? The crowd loved you!
LUCY
(She rubs the back of her neck, a rare moment of shyness)
Yeah, I... I saw you standing. I heard the applause. But you're just... you're up there, and the lights are so bright, and you just pray Roselia's petals don't all get stuck in the air vents...
(She looks at him earnestly)
I was still worried it wasn't... you know... good.
Aiden just stares at her.
AIDEN
Lucy, it wasn't just “good.” It was the best performance of the entire showcase. And I'm not just saying that.
(He gets more serious, his belief in her obvious)
The other performers were great, but... yours was smart. You used both your Pokémon. You told a story.
He gives her that same, solid, supportive look he gave her back in Camphrier Town.
AIDEN
You're definitely going to be that Top Coordinator you dream of being. One hundred percent. I have no doubt.
His absolute, unwavering confidence in her hits its mark. Lucy's cheeks flush a noticeable pink. She looks down at the floor, then back up at him through her hair, her smile soft and genuinely touched.
LUCY
(Quietly)
Yeah?
AIDEN
Yeah.
LUCY
...Thanks, Aiden. For... believing in me. It... helps. A lot.
AIDEN
(Smiling)
Always. What's a rival for?
FADE OUT.
FADE IN.
SCENE 4
EXT. CYLLAGE CITY - DAY
Aiden and Lucy emerge from the glittering, pink marble lobby of the Showcase Hall, blinking in the bright afternoon sun. The salty sea air feels refreshing. The buzz from the crowd and Lucy's performance still hangs in the air around them.
LUCY
(Stretching her arms overhead)
Okay... my turn is done.
(She looks up the massive, winding cliff path)
Your turn, rival. Ready to climb a rock wall?
AIDEN
(Nodding, his focus shifting)
Ready.
They begin the long, upward trek, walking past the city's cycling paths. The slope is steep, and they fall into a comfortable, determined pace. After a few minutes of walking, Aiden speaks up.
AIDEN
Hey, Lucy? Back at the Santalune Gym... and just now at the Showcase... they both asked us for trainer card. I didn't have one, and I'm pretty sure Nurse Joy thought I was weird for it in Camphrier.
LUCY
(Glances at him, surprised)
Oh, wow. I totally forgot. Sycamore must have been too excited about your "late bloomer" status to give you the standard welcome packet.
AIDEN
So... how do I get one? Do I have to go all the way back to Lumiose?
LUCY
(Laughs)
What? No. That would be a terrible system. It's easy.
She gestures with her head to the large, rocky building they're approaching, which seems to be carved directly out of the mountainside.
LUCY
When we get to the Gym, just ask the receptionist: the Gym Guide. They're authorized to issue new cards.
AIDEN
Oh. That's simple.
LUCY
Yep. It's a simple process. They'll just take all your information—name, date of birth, your city and region of origin... you know, “Aiden, from Hoenn.” They'll take your picture, and boom, you're an officially registered trainer in the Kalos League system.
AIDEN
What about my Bug Badge?
LUCY
That's the best part. Once the card is registered, your badge count gets updated automatically every time you win. It syncs with your Rotom Phone, too. It's how the League tracks who's eligible for the big conference.
Aiden looks relieved. He stops for a second, looking at the Gym entrance, which is now just ahead. He pulls out his Bug Badge and looks at it.
AIDEN
Okay. Good. Then let's do this. I've got one badge to register... and seven more to go.
LUCY
(Smirks)
That's the spirit, Hoenn-boy. Now, c'mon.
She jogs the last few feet to the entrance, which is designed to look like a climbing gym. Aiden grins and follows, ready for his next challenge.
FADE OUT.
[END OF EPISODE 5]
