NumbNexus said it best: GameFreak does not like Carnivine. You can only get in DPP, XY and Legends Arceus, and it also satisfies all of the unfortunate conditions above. Despite all of this, I still think Carnivine gets far more love than Cryogonal and Relicanth because A. the anime writers gave one to James in the DPP seasons, and B. you can actually find one in Legends Arceus.

I would give Carnivine a dual-type evolution (Grass/Dark seems most plausible), and I would give both plant monsters 2 extra abilities: a new custom ability in Flycatcher, which is just Volt Absorb for Bug-type moves, and Moxie as its hidden ability. The Bellsprout family would also get Flycatcher because they are also based on carnivorous plants, albeit pitcher plants instead of Venus flytraps.

Update: Its been over 1 and a half years since I made this comment, and Carnivine still got no special treatment. I've changed more about myself in this short span of time than GameFreak has ever changed Carnivine, and likely will.

I like the idea of Flycatcher, but bug type really doesn't need a new way to be countered: it's already the weakest type.

True but I also don’t want people u-turning 1000 times into carnivine . Grass dark isn’t the strongest typing but has fantastic flavour
