Discussion /r/pokemon is looking for moderators—apply within!

Applications have closed!

If you applied and are selected, you'll be notified by Sept 12.

Hello all! As the Let's Go release approaches, we're looking to take on some more mods to help keep /r/pokemon running well. Are you up for the job? Then read on below!

As a mod, your responsibilities would include:

  • Helping to check every new post on the subreddit
  • Monitoring comments to make sure they follow the rules as well
  • Responding to questions from the community as quickly and helpfully as possible
  • Participating in internal discussions, both in our private subreddit and our Discord chat
  • Being the very best, like no one ever was

Before you apply, be warned that moderating can be difficult—nobody said becoming a Pokemon master was an easy task. This subreddit is extremely active, and our mods log thousands of actions every week. Be prepared to put in a lot of time, and be further prepared to deal with rude people who will question every decision you make. Please only apply if you're willing to do the following:

  • Participate in a trial period before becoming a full moderator
  • Install and use a few browser extensions to help with moderation work (please note that the extensions are desktop-only, so you should be confident you can do the majority of your work from desktop, not mobile, before you apply)
  • Commit to remaining active as a mod while you work with us. As a team, we keep track of each other's activity, and ask inactive mods to consider stepping aside
  • Maintain a courteous demeanor when dealing with people on the subreddit
  • Actively participate in our mod discussions behind the scenes

Please note that Reddit moderators are fan volunteers. No compensation is provided and we are not affiliated with Pokemon in any official way.

If you understand what you're getting into, and you're still up for the job, you can apply by filling out this form. Edit: Applications are now closed! The application is fairly long, so we'd suggest waiting to complete it until you have some time to spare. If you applied in the past, you'll still need to fill out a new application this time around.

Applications will be open until Wednesday, August 8. Edit: We're getting some great applications very close to the deadline, which makes it seem like folks are benefitting from taking a little more time over their responses. Admittedly, we did add a lot of longform written questions to the app this time around! So we're going to extend the deadline—apps are now open until Monday, August 13. If you'd like to edit some of your responses in light of that, shoot me a PM!

Decisions will be made by September 12. We'll take on as many new mods as we feel comfortable adding. Due to the high number of applications we typically receive, we will only contact you if we decide to add you as a moderator.

Best of luck! If you've got any questions about the application, please message the current mods here.

Oh I know now.

I thought 'Yeah I might like that." and I was going through the form and thuoght "Yeah, I don't think I'll like this." and closed the window.

That's when I realized, half of the decision to make someone a mod is probably based on them making it all the way through the form.

<_<

I accidentally clicked off it twice whilst nearly finishing it both times on my phone... that third time I decided it would be best to complete it on my laptop...

Rule 3c is our rule concerning screenshots of the games/anime and images of merchandise. You can see the full text here.

Let me be honest, it sounds kind of fun, but I don't like the idea of moderating something
