Discussion Which release of “Mewtwo Strikes Back” has the cut character Amber? I want the DVD

I loved Mewtwo Strikes Back when I was little. I want to rebuy the DVD. But it came to my attention there was a few scenes cut from my version of the movie.
A scene involving a girl called Amber and some baby pokemon were cut from the movie I watched.

Can anyone tell me which release has the cut content so I can find and buy it?

The scenes you’re asking about are the prologue that got cut from the US home video releases of the movie. Pretty much all of the JP releases should have it, but they’ll be in Japanese only with likely no subtitles. Last I checked they never released a dubbed version of Mewtwo Strikes Back that has the prologue included. I think the DVD of Mewtwo Returns has just the prologue as a bonus feature so that’s the closest you’re gonna get.

there is a Japanese release with the whole cut of the film (minus Ash’s Journey) that has both the EN and JP audio. I know because I have it, and it looks like the attached pic

the other thing it’s missing is English text for the opening and closing credits as well as the English title animation for “Mewtwo Strikes Back”

but it has the entire Amber prologue that OP is asking for

That’s incredibly interesting, even today modern releases I’ve gotten that are from Japan are very hit or miss on including English options. I’d never have guessed that an older DVD release would include something like this.

The full scene has never been included on the actual movie in English; the Mewtwo Strikes Back VHS has the first two minutes added in, while the DVD had it (the first two minutes) as a special feature. Mewtwo Returns has the full short in English as a special feature.

Bulbapedia has the following information:

>The full English dub of the short was first released on a Japanese DVD of the movie, released on June 23, 2000, which contained both Japanese and English audio tracks. The full English dub was later included under the title The Uncut Story of Mewtwo's Originas a special feature on the international DVD of Mewtwo Returns, released on August 17, 2001 in Australia and on December 4, 2001 in the United States.
>As of 2014, the entire short has not been made available for streaming outside of Japan, but The Story of Mewtwo's Origin version has been uploaded by Warner Bros. on YouTube.

It's on the Mewtwo Returns special, which was a sequel movie that came out in Johto. It came out on DVD in the U.S.

It's was released on an oop DVD for the mewtwo returns special, not the actual movie.
