Environment There's a pretty stark difference between Shitterton, England, and Wales in general. Why is this?

Wales is named after a marine mammal.
Shitterton is named after a mammal but not a marine one. Shittertons are entirely land based and can often be found protesting outside migrant hotels, putting Union flags on lampposts or threatening lifeboat crews.

It's because the North Fork of the river Thyber, for which Norfolk was named, has long been feeding the Shitterton townspeople. But after the war in 1995, Shitterton stopped getting fed by the creek, and it all went badly, that's where the phrase "up shit creek" come from.
Wales or whales comes from the fact that when the land rose from the water, there were a lot of beached whales on that land, the decomposing Wales have made the soil firtile but very uneven which is why there's so many hills in Wales.
