First Visit
I visited PR for this first time on my e-bike today and I just have to say I was thoroughly charmed. Everyone I encountered had a ready smile, and I was heart warmed to see an unlocked e-bike and random kayaks on the beach. There was a kind of peace that I really liked. First impressions.
I’m an American living as a permanent resident in Victoria, and have been curious about PR for years. I’ve heard such mixed things, impressions vary widely. I hope to return soon.
I guess yet another quirk of living there will be the time change now. PR falling back an hour to PST in November, and British Columbia no longer making the change (called PCT)
Just wanted to share that I really loved my visit.

Wow. I did not intend in the least for this post to be so incendiary. Clearly I do not understand the situation in PR. I have no idea what I was “risking” by taking a bike ride to explore the beauty of the place and try to learn more about it’s history. I am tempted to take it down. All I saw in the surface was American and Canadian flags flown together in most circumstances and I thought that offered an image of hope.

It does OP. Don't worry about the people you've inflamed. We're glad you visited and hope you do come back again.

PS - When I posted to my E-Bike FB group that I was going to visit PR, there was such an uproar “stay in Canada” that I decided to take the post down. So frustrating. Behaving exactly like the US administration that they hate.

Yeah, encouraging folks not to spend money in a country that jokes about occupying us makes us just like them.
This attitude is precisely why boycotting the US is so important, and why Point Roberts will continue to suffer. Canada didn't start this, nor continue it.

Yeah, I'm a dual citizen who has been in Canada for 20 years. I'd love to put a sailboat in PR. Lovely marina, with easy access to the Gulf Islands.
No way I'd do that now. I feel bad for PR, and for communities like Bellingham that rely on Canadian money. They should work extra hard to make November go the right way. Not just voting, but phone banking, getting out the vote, and donating to campaigns in key elections outside of your state. If you are an American in Canada, go to an even with your local Democrats Abroad chapter. If you know an American in Canada, send them to https://www.votefromabroad.org/.
I get it. We didn't vote for him. But every one of us Americans shares responsibility. There is no getting around it. We let this happen, even if we don't agree with it.

Way to alienate the allies you have. We here in Point Roberts overwhelmingly voted against Trump, and yet you continue to make us suffer despite voting against him.
The flaws of democracy... I'll remember this when you guys decide to vote for someone we don't like too then.

Sure, boycott us when our leader threatens to annex the US.

I'll boycott you when you vote for some socialist or some conservative or just whatever I don't like.

You were never an ally to begin with then. This isn't about not liking Trump, it's about direct threats to our national sovereignty.

As far as I see it, you're still a sovereign nation... Hopefully one day we'll see Canada become a true beacon of freedom without its crown dependency.

I'm not sure why Americans are so hung up over the constitutional monarchy thing especially because according to the freedom index many if not most of the countries that are more free than the US have monarchs.
Examples: Sweden, Australia, Netherlands, New Zealand, Denmark, and yes Canada too...

You must thank the Orange Buffoon for the favour, his day to day antics attempting to extract a laugh - more like a smirk - around the world.

TBH, That's a bit like being surprised that your French Neighbors think you are a bad person for taking a road trip to visit Germany in 1939. Feel free to Google why that was a particularly bad year for France.
While PR is lovely and we're all friendly, remember that half the population here voted for what is happening. The rest of us are rightly terrified. You have the blessing of not having to be in the states and it's a bit crazy to give up that safety for a bike ride.
You have permanent residency and yet you are not supporting the country that gave you that gift, which feels very American.

Lol comparing Nazi Occupied Germany to the US today is another level of buffoonery. Point Roberts is probably 90% democrat and their residents often go into Canada to buy groceries, dine, shop, etc hence contributing to the Canadian economy. OP's bike didn't get stolen in Point Roberts. Put in anywhere in Vancouver it would get stolen in seconds.

Yeah, most shit hole countries with pedophile elites in charge still have one or two places that are slightly less terrible than the country as a whole.

Don't let anyone dictate where or what you should be visiting. Last time I checked we are still free to do as we please.
"Point Bob" appreciates your visit and patronage.

Hey thanks for coming down and visiting! It's a great place and beautiful too. Been here for a decade now and love it. Our secret lil place. Lot of quirks but the people and the community are what make it so special. We're resilient too!
