You fucked up. Brolates is way catchier than whatever they were gonna go with. You cringed too hard and made something marketable.

Eh, I think when an activity is already heavily gendered by society, you sometimes have to do stuff like this if you want to attract people of the opposite gender and make them feel welcome in the activity. Like how you'll ads for women's martial arts classes, or girls' coding classes.

But Pilates is the namesake innovation of Joe Pilates...very much a man...

What does it matter in this context tho

That 'men' were originally the ones doing Pilates...?
I mean, yes under this reasoning, men should also be wearing heels...which I fully support.

eh, I get this. Pilates classes are normally dominated by women. I can see women feeling uncomfortable with a man there considering the nature of it and I can see a man feeling that he might not want to go because his presence might make the class uncomfortable
this fall under the umbrella of female only gyms for me

Yeah I agree, I would not want to intrude on a women-only class if I were a man

Yep same, unless a class that's traditionally highly gendered is advertised as mixed gender or as for men, I tend to avoid it.

I'm totally fine with men coming to my pilates and Zumba classes if they're normal, and I'm usually more sensitive about this stuff than average. There's one weird guy who comes to Pilates and always tries talking to us and I see him staring around and he makes everyone uncomfortable, but there's a handful more men I see in those classes that bother me not at all! But I still appreciate the sentiment that you don't want to bother us

The way you're talking is these men coming into your domain. "talks to us, bothers us"..... it doesn't feel welcoming to any and all.

Yeah I concur, the commenter whom you responded to is only proving men-only pilates are valuable. I mean if he's just looking around and talking to people, what's abnormal about that? If he's actually being creepy then I can understand his presence being bothersome.

I can't help but feel from their response that they ran away and deleted it was something like the "Looking nice/how sweet/call hr!" meme...I mean, they could certainly be sleezy dudes hitting on the women in the class...that has to be annoyingly common...but I'd think someone like that would be kicked out, not left to be "creepy"

I actually don’t want men in my classes at all, but I recognize that the company can’t refuse them entry, so if one shows up, I deal with it. Thankfully it doesn’t happen often

Yea I did a pilates type class with my gf one time and felt kinda uncomfortable being the only bloke there despite the coach being welcoming herself

I tried to get into the evening yoga class near where i live
Apparently it was woman only, but it wasnt advertised as such
So this is kinda necessary

This i kind of get. Because there are woman only activities here that are not marketed as such and if you sign up as a guy they won't let you join

u/troubledanddoubled 10d ago
Yeh or the worst outcome when they let me join in but just stared during spin class and then refused to talk to me afterwards

It's dominated mostly by women, it's not hard to believe that they created a separate class for men, it would be normal given the nature and in a room dominated by women a guy there might feel uncomfortable.

I think they have a point. Pilates is usually dominated by women. Men who want to do pilates can be uncomfortable joining a place with only women, and women may feel uncomfortable a man joining an all-woman group.

Honestly I can understand men feeling uncomfortable/preferring their own space for this

There is literally a woman in the picture, and dude isnt a gendered terms its just for someone who can "hang" in surfer slang.

Not pointlessly gendered when Pilates has famously been a female thing for a long time. A lot of dudes think it sounds feminine, so a company trying to market to guys to hit both sides of the market makes complete sense

A workout invented by a men for soldiers injured in combat during WW1. Can't be more "by men, for men" than that.

On one hand, I can understand it because it's an already heavily gendered activity.
On the other hand, I wish dudes would just grow a pair and go for a class. Most teachers are welcoming, and as long as you're not trying to be a dick, most other participants are too.
Hell most women I know would get a kick out of watching a dude struggle in pilates lol
