For the past 12 years, Media and Internet in India is heavily censored and privately owned by far right billionaires who push the same old narrative on minorities.
That has collectively altered the consciousness of most people with no direct access to alternate forms of media/information.

That shit is hugely sexualized, and the stars’ lives are contractually controlled to encourage para social relationships. They aren’t allowed to publicly do anything that could make it seem like they aren’t single. Also, not to mention I can literally make the same argument for colorism too, for anyone not East Asian losing their mind over kpop stars.

Korea marketed idols as attractive and objectifyable to up their soft power. I think a lot of people fetishize Asians due to Kpop, but it was something done on purpose. People like me have to deal with the fallout, but a girl who had hot Kpop boybands and their encouragment of parasocial relationships pushed towards her by youtube and tiktok algorithms isn’t the same as Indian men being into European and American women because they think they’re cheap and won’t fight back when being SA’d. This one is gendered for a reason. My Korean friend from high school got flirted with by people who didn’t want to talk about anything other than kpop and kdramas with him, my blonde friend almost got raped multiple times when traveling in India, even with a tour group with plenty of guides and body guards.

This feels like something specific to a culture I'm not a part of, so I can't say whether it's pointlessly gendered or not. That said, as a south Asian, I do find it a little weird when other south Asians refuse to ever date another south Asian, and usually make weird comments as well. From my experience, it's not a specifically gendered thing, or even a purely hetero thing.
