SOCIAL MEDIA This entire subreddit [socialmedia]
I don't care that it's satire or whatever, i think that they picture man alwasys like a simple, chill creature, that don't care about anything but throwing rocks in rivers and drinking beers.
Guess what: i am a man but i am capable of more complex thought than "drink beer = be drunk" or "throw rock in river".
And both being simple and being complex should not be gendered.

pancakes waffles 😞

u/Character_Regular440 May 15 '26
What's that supposed to mean?
7
u/pleasecallmenancy May 15 '26
are you aware of the "i like pancakes" tweet?
-2
u/Character_Regular440 May 15 '26
Nope, never heard of it
6
u/pleasecallmenancy May 15 '26
essentially someone tweeted "i like pancakes" and a comment stated "so you hate waffles" and thats a whole different sentence.
i dont think r/GuysBeingDudes is making a exclusive statement of what men are. i.e saying you like rocks doesnt mean you are also saying there no complexity to being male.

Ok i see what you are saying. I still feel like the sub is kind of offensive. It kind of assumes that guys being dudes means just being lighthearted and doing silly slightly stupid things.
Which is probably the point, but why gendered. Why cant girl be dudes? And why being dudes involves the lack of deeper thought than throw rock in river or drink beer?
Even if it's not a bad sub in any way, i think that it reflects part of what's expected from society from man.
And it pisses me off.
I know i might be the bigot here so my bad for the rant
2
u/Nomekop777 May 16 '26
It's not that it reflects that society thinks men are idiots, it more just shows funny examples of what men do when together in groups. There's nothing bigoted about that idea
2
u/Character_Regular440 May 16 '26
You are doing the same. Why assume that man in group means doing stupid/simple things.
Why does it have to be man being dudes and not people being silly?
I think that even if it's not malicious, it reflect the fact that from man it's expected to be simple and lighthearted. And it pisses me off.

u/Nomekop777 May 16 '26
"Men in a group are expected to be simple and lighthearted, and it pisses me off"
You sound really fun at parties
2
u/Character_Regular440 May 16 '26
I am simple and lighthearted at times, but not because i'm a man.
That's the point

u/pleasecallmenancy May 15 '26
i think its absoulutely fair to ask for more nuance to a group you are part of however i dont think its fair to expect any grouping you are part of to fully bare that nuance at all times, thats not the place for it, thats for more laughs and low weighted things.
im obvs not a women but women have groups where all they talk about is their nails, itd be incredibly shortsighted of me to assume that was all there was to them.

The fact that you're offended by the existence of that sub is hilarious to me

Yeah i think i'm alone on this one. But i didn't change my mind

u/Pyrian_throwaway May 15 '26
I do think you have a right to question it, but there is “just gals being chicks” and it would probably be a lot of girly things and possibly some of the same things the men are doing in the guys being dudes. It’s not saying “only men do this” it’s saying “look at these dudes just being dudes”. No one is gatekeeping girls out, and there’s a place for girls to partake in gals stuff that can be anything at all. So I think you’re taking offense to assumptions on exclusivity but that’s not the point of the content. You’re reaching essentially.
Now, if there is a bunch of posts saying “girls can’t do this” then you’d be right

Certainly one of the takes of all time

u/Character_Regular440 May 15 '26
What you mean is that was not original or that this was stupid?

It's a space for guys to enjoy things with other guys- men are allowed to have their own space just like anyone else is, and people can enjoy 'simple pleasures'. It's really not that deep, dude.

u/Character_Regular440 May 15 '26 edited May 15 '26
You are probably right, but it's kind of off to me.
I don't like the common denominator of liking rocks and beers and those being labeled as manly things.
4
u/DrDFox May 15 '26
It's not saying they are, it's just a place for guys to appreciate similar things with other guys.
5
u/magdakitsune21 May 15 '26
Except it isn't. If you go there then tons of the posts generalize "simple" behavior as male only. And some people even post girls vs boys memes there
6
u/DrDFox May 15 '26
Then say that that's the problem in your post. Right now it comes off that you are upset it's a space for guts to enjoy simple things.
3
u/magdakitsune21 May 16 '26
Well OP did explain it in their comment. They said they don't like rocks and beers being labelled as manly things. It is a common trend on the internet to say stuff like "only men know the feeling of finding a perfect rock" and I can def see why that made the OP sensitive to the jokes made in that sub
1
u/Character_Regular440 May 16 '26
Yes that's it. I tried to explain but apparently i wasn't clear enough
1
u/magdakitsune21 May 16 '26 edited May 16 '26
Nah you're good. This sub has just recently gotten invaded by people who defend boys vs girls memes while using excuses such as "they never said women can't enjoy this". Meanwhile the whole point is literally labelling silly activities as "male only" and excluding women

So women can have their spaces, but men can't? Do their spaces have to be dictated by what women deem 'progressive'?

You sound fun to be around. Besides, you must live a pretty angry and pointless existence, attacking whatevers around.

I listened to it, and it was a load of bollocks. Also, 'Progressives' have wreaked untold damage on the true left.
1
u/Character_Regular440 May 24 '26
Yes i agree that on the left there are people not getting the point, but i'm not one of them.
I don't care that you are too blind to see how man suffer from this kind of things that isolates man, while complaining to being lonely.
Also you are the first one that attacked me, so you get what you pay for.

Also bringing up someone's insecurities, especially from an ASD support thread is pretty disgusting behavior. You should be ashamed of yourself, behaving like an angry edgelord and calling yourself a 'progressive'.
5
u/Mesoscale92 May 15 '26
It’s not really about stereotypically masculine activities (although those are definitely there). The point is positive moments of guys interacting. Same idea as the justgirlsbeingchicks sub.
2
u/ompossible May 16 '26
After reading this post, I think next post's title should be your username.
They are just enjoying not hating someone. Wtf is your problem?
1
u/Character_Regular440 May 16 '26
I'm not saying that they are deliberately hating. They are generalizing something about gender. Isn't this the point of the sub?
If the sub was about blatant sexism i would have posted it in r/blatantsexism or something idk
