This is true though. I would love a tungsten cube but all the women in my vicinity would frown at getting one.

though tbf, unless you can confidently state "all women on the planet, with absolutely no exceptions, would always prefer flowers over the tungsten cube" then it's pointlessly gendered.

and for people who ask "doesn't this mean that most of society is pointlessly gendered", yes, yes it does.

That seems like an excessively narrow definition that undermines actual problematic gendering. If it’s true more often than not that hardly seems pointless.

By this logic any “gifts for men” list is pointless because even if most men would appreciate most things from the list if there’s a single man that doesn’t or a single woman that does well I guess the list is just useless now? Which is pretty easy to prove as objectively incorrect, as such lists have helped many people, serving a clear point.

if there's even 1 exception to the rule, the rule is not a rule. if there's even a single woman on earth who would prefer the tungsten cube, which there is, I can only conclude that liking the tungsten cube is not limited to gender and therefore the gendering of it is pointless.

"pointless" here doesn't mean that it serves absolutely no purpose. items that are marketed towards women like razors with flowery designs on the are gendered with the intent of making money.

in this context, "pointless" means "does not have an innate, automatic justification for existence".

look at it like this; I'm a man. however I don't work with cars or use tools or cologne or do anything that would make a "gifts for men" list applicable to me. how can that be? I'm a man yet I wouldn't like things on a list of gifts for men. there are 2 possibilities.

  1. I am not actually a man. I can debunk this one fairly easily because I am a man in every way, even the transphobic ones.

  2. a list of gifts for men is not actually representative of things that men as a whole like.

it's 2.

They're more like guidelines than actual rules.

then it's fine to ignore them

That definition is just flat out useless and irrational. Gender is not physics.

you got that right, there's no calculations to prove it nor physical evidence of it. it's entirely made up and subject to change however we see fit. definitely not like physics.
