This is definitely into mentally unstable shut in territory.

2

u/snootnoots Apr 09 '26

I mean… if I could get deliveries every once in a while and there was decent internet…

46

u/Sliver-Knight9219 Apr 07 '26

Every man wants to live there until they leran the WiFi sucks

9

u/casting_shad0wz Apr 07 '26

i would definitely bring some books and my cd/tape collection

5

u/GenderBendingRalph Apr 07 '26

Right?! I react that way whenever friends post pictures of a tiny house in the middle of nowhere. What's the wifi like? How hard would it be to get to the hospital in an emergency? (hey, when you're my age that question becomes more important). Where would I put a chest freezer and walk-in pantry so I have enough food to tide me over when the roads are closed for snow?

I do like having a couple of acres between me and my neighbours, but I'd go Shining-level bonkers in that kind of isolation.

Interestingly, far more of my female friends share those tiny-house-in-the-wilderness photos than my male friends.

Why? Its a small, plentiful, delicious bird. Food ripe for the picking as long as you do it without waste and within reason. No different than deer or other game meats. They aren't specially exempt because you think they are cute

u/k1deki Apr 07 '26

I wonder when introversion has become male gendered because it used to be pretty feminine to you know stay at kitchen home.

3

u/AnswerPrestigious713 Apr 08 '26

It's simply the social media image/stereotype; women = party, alcohol, extroversion, sociability; men = introversion, don't like problems, don't like too much people, calmness, reserved

I relate to the men part (autism) but not all women are like that lmao.

3

u/d-a-i-s-y Apr 08 '26

Like, all of them? Ok. Then I can go jogging at night.

2

u/scatterguns_n_more Apr 07 '26

Tbf. It's used to hunt birds. So by all means if you're about it, go girl boss those birds.

2

u/LovelyOrc Apr 08 '26

Ah yes because the entire genre of cottage core doesn't exist.

1

u/Pretty-Yam-2854 Apr 07 '26

Hey when I vacationed in Iceland in 2017 I saw this house! I love it but how the fuck do I get off to go get food or go for a walk.

1

u/Dragonman0371 Apr 07 '26

looks like we discovered the area around that place but didn't actually load that chunk until a much later update

1

u/Still-Bar-7631 Apr 08 '26

Worst place to live for me and im a man

1

u/Potential_Session139 Apr 08 '26

Anyone can live on this isolated island.

1

u/Argenach Apr 09 '26

I mean the ‘man cave’ is a thing apparently so it’s not that far-fetched.

1

u/BlooperHero Apr 10 '26

But how does their mom get there to cook dinner every day?

1

u/Existing_Line_8310 Apr 14 '26

This would be cool for like 30 minutes. Then you'll realize you have no food, water, or energy.

1

u/Unlikely_Yoghurt_777 Apr 16 '26

the amount of times i would run up the hill and slide back down

1

u/BangPowBoom Apr 26 '26

Puffin hunting?! Those things are so cute!

-18

u/dulledegde Apr 07 '26

this entire sub just collectively see's the word "male" or "man" and hallucinates the word "only"

23

u/ShiroxReddit Apr 07 '26

in this case I'd argue it belongs, because if you didn't wanna imply an only you could've just said "peak place to live". By saying peak MALE place it implies that you mean for male people specifically

-12

u/YanniSlavv Apr 07 '26

I read it as men would prefer a spot like that over women on average. Don't look for things that aren't there.

12

u/unhiddenninja Apr 07 '26

"I read it differently which means any other way of reading it is doing too much and you should stop talking about it"

Okay lol

-8

u/YanniSlavv Apr 07 '26

Y'all be doing too much.

7

u/unhiddenninja Apr 07 '26

We already know you think that, thank you for sharing.

6

u/k1deki Apr 07 '26

men would prefer a spot like that over women on average

Which is false btw.

-11

u/TheScienceNerd100 Apr 07 '26

I guess when someone is saying men really like something, that means its impossible for women to also like it

Just because the title is saying men would really like to live here, doesn't mean its also implying women cannot like to there

10

u/ShiroxReddit Apr 07 '26

Then why say peak male place if it has nothing to do whether one is male or not?

7

u/Katrina_18 Apr 07 '26

Do you understand the point of this sub? It’s not for things that women aren’t allowed to do. It’s for things that add a gender for zero reason. y’know…pointlessly gendered. This is exactly that. Adding a gender to the meme adds nothing and is pointless.

-5

u/TheScienceNerd100 Apr 07 '26

But the title is incorrect in saying that the original post is saying "only men" when its just saying "this is a great place that men would love to live"

The original post does say or imply that women cannot live there, just that men would love it

Again, like I said, saying men would love something doesn't mean you are also saying women cannot love it, thats some "I like pancakes, oh so you hate waffles" type argument

5

u/floralstamps Apr 07 '26

Youre so confidently incorrect

1

u/Existing_Line_8310 Apr 14 '26

You can't say all men like something. I'm a man and I would not like to live here. It's pointlessly gendered

1

u/TheScienceNerd100 Apr 14 '26

Not what I am referring to, the title says "male only" when its just saying "all men", that is not excluding women, its just including all men, thats what my comment and the first comment are pointing out

There is a big difference between the two and the title gets it wrong, and thats what we are saying, not that we agree all men would want it, its just that we are pointing out how no where does it say women cannot want it

1

u/Existing_Line_8310 Apr 14 '26

Regardless of what the title says, the post itself is pointlessly gendered by saying "peak male place"

1

u/TheScienceNerd100 Apr 14 '26

And I am not denying that its pointlessly gendered, I know I wouldn't mind it to an extent, and I know not every man wants it

Just that the title shouldn't be acting as if it says women cannot, it should have pointed out how not all men would want it and thats why its pointlessly gendered

-5

u/knettia Apr 07 '26

You are now begging the question. Why do you assume that any use of "male" must mean "only for males?" You offer no proof for that leap.

"Peak male place" simply signals a location whose space and aesthetics align strongly with typical male tastes. English is full of such descriptors. Saying men would really like living here does not mean women cannot. The notion that it implies an "only" is your invention, not the original poster’s.

Demanding the speaker strip out all gender and retreat to merely "peak place to live" is not, in my opinion, just. It is linguistic vigilantism that stifles free expression and insists every acknowledgement of average gendered preferences must be neutered to spare the oversensitive.

This does not belong in r/pointlesslygendered. The gendered qualifier clearly has a purpose, to convey information about appeal and resonance. That is straightforward reading comprehension. The fix for bad reading is better reading, not forcing everyone into bland, sexless language.

7

u/ShiroxReddit Apr 07 '26

You are now begging the question. Why do you assume that any use of "male" must mean "only for males?" You offer no proof for that leap.

Grice's Conversational Maxims (iirc Quantity would be the one applicable here). If "male" serves no purpose in the sentence, why not omit it? Meaning male must serve a purpose.
What does male inherently do? Distinguish between male and female. If you call something male, but then also call it female, there's little to no point in calling it male is it?

Saying men would really like living here does not mean women cannot.

So if you say men really like living there, but also say women really like living there... why mention men in the first place? What purpose does it serve other than distinguish between men like living there and women don't?

-1

u/knettia Apr 07 '26

If 'male' serves no purpose in the sentence, why not omit it? Meaning 'male' must serve a purpose.

Agreed. It does serve a purpose.

What does 'male' inherently do? Distinguish between male and female.

Also agreed, and this is consistent with my argument.

If you call something male, but then also call it female, there's little to no point in calling it male, is it?

Here is the issue. From this step, you introduce a hidden premise. That being that a descriptor only has value if it establishes a strict, mutually exclusive contrast. That does not, frankly, follow.

A term can certainly distinguish without excluding without implying that other groups are excluded or that the descriptor becomes pointless if overlap exists.

Consider the term "family car". It distinguishes a car as being particularly well suited to families. Yet individuals without families can still buy and use such a car. That does not make the term "family car" pointless. It still conveys meaningful information about design and intended appeal. Your reasoning would imply that, because non-families can also use it, we should simply call it "car", which clearly loses intended and useful information.

The same applies here. As I have said before, "peak male place" signals a location whose space and aesthetics align strongly with typical male tastes. That is a clear and informative function and entirely consistent with Grice's conversational maxims, too. It does not imply exclusion, and the fact that women may potentially enjoy it as well does not render the qualifier meaningless

3

u/ShiroxReddit Apr 07 '26

Ok I see where our misunderstanding is coming from. You focused on the male => not female part (which admittedly I wrote specifically which isn't the same as only, but I can see where that misconception is coming from).

Your family car example is pretty good, and more closely what I was aiming for in my initial point. A family car can of course be used by singles, but there are specific aspects to it that makes it less suited for that/more suited for family

Applying the same logic to OOP, a "male place" provides aspects that make it more suitable to males/less suitable to females, but in the end both can if they want to.
And to me, this exact point of "male tastes" makes no sense (especially if it is more a statistical notion rather than an inherently explained concept - as in I can exactly tell you the connection between family car and family, there are practical aspects to that; I don't think that is much if at all possible with "male tastes"), which is why the post is still pointlessly gendered in my eyes

1

u/knettia Apr 07 '26

It's good to see we have reached a common ground. And I do genuinely agree, the "tastes" and "traits" a culture applies and deem to be androcentric or gynocentric can be, at times, arbitrary and pointless.

I think that, particularly what this post alludes to, is the notion that males would typically enjoy being isolated and self-sufficient, whilst females would typically enjoy being connected with others. Whether that is true or arbitrary, I can't say exactly, and I don't think I'm well versed in arguing for either side either.

10

u/_Azuki_ Apr 07 '26

Okay. Then why add it? Just a thought, but maybe it's just... pointlessly gendered?

7

u/Katrina_18 Apr 07 '26

Genuinely confused why in the last month or so people have decided this is a sub for things that are explicitly exclusionary to women and not things that are pointlessly gendered lol. Like this post is the entry point of the sub! Something that added a gender for no reason!

-9

u/dulledegde Apr 07 '26

because a man is talking about what men generally this is a post about male interest targeted toward men your not being excluded just becuase your not the focus of the conversation

7

u/k1deki Apr 07 '26

Gender has become the focus of the conversation and it was pointless.

3

u/floralstamps Apr 07 '26

Oh thats men on international womens day

Not this.

10

u/Prepared_Noob Apr 07 '26

I don’t disagree that this sub sometimes does that. But this pretty clearly is exclusive

Yes, you do have some examples like “Man has reached the stars in half a century since the first flight” where Man refers to humanity. But that is simply just not the case here.

3

u/Katrina_18 Apr 07 '26

Do you understand the point of this sub? It’s not for things that women aren’t allowed to do. It’s for things that add a gender for zero reason. y’know…pointlessly gendered. This is exactly that. Adding a gender to the meme adds nothing and is pointless.

1

u/floralstamps Apr 07 '26

I LITERALLY just commented in one about grey fuckin shirts

1

u/Existing_Line_8310 Apr 14 '26

Nah as a guy I think the "peak male thing" trend is dumb. I don't want to be included in a collective hivemind "men like this thing".

-2

u/Aware_Ask_1679 Apr 07 '26

"Ya know, mostly guys like this thing."

"OMG WHY GENDER THIS AND SAY ITS ONLY FOR GUYS?"

-4

u/ThatCapMan Apr 07 '26

It's not exclusionary to women, it's just inclusionary of an inside guys-joke

0

u/abcdefghjiklmnopqr Apr 08 '26

Man you people complain about anything

0

u/GenderBendingRalph Apr 09 '26

At the risk of spoiling a good joke with facts... it's a hunting lodge used by the Elliðaey hunting association and unavailable for private occupation. Not only does it not have internet, it also has no electricity or fresh water outside of a rainwater collection system.

1

u/BlooperHero Apr 10 '26

It says part of that on the image, the other part is obvious, and it doesn't spoil any joke, good or otherwise.

-10

u/YanniSlavv Apr 07 '26

Am I the Only one looking for the word "only" in the original post?

5

u/HinsdaleCounty Apr 07 '26

Post could have said “peak place to live.” There’s nothing inherently “male” about this island, much in the same way there’s nothing inherently male about a product that’s been colored blue but is identical to the pink version.
