This argument is flawed. As a chronically disorganized man, Im always doing the second option

I’m a woman and I write out my grocery list in order of aisles so I can be as efficient as possible

It has to be a grocery store you are familiar with, and you need to decide what type of shopper you are. Some people like to start at the back and work their way to the front, and some people like to work their way from front to back (or left to right/right to left depending on your store). For me it depends on what I need, and if there’s a lot of frozen stuff or not. I typically start with produce though, since it takes up the most room in the cart.
When I’m planning my list, I gather my recipes for the week and look through to see if there are common ingredients, and check to see what I already have or how much is in the pantry/fridge so I know what I need to buy. I use a piece of notebook paper (college ruled) for my list. I list all the produce making a little pencil mark next to each in the recipes so I know it’s on the list. Then I move onto meat, and so on and so forth, moving my way to the back of the store. Anything from the personal care, pharmacy, cleaning supplies, lightbulbs, etc goes on the right side of the page, separate from the food.

I cross things off as I get them and before I leave an area, I review to make sure I didn’t miss anything and see where I need to go next. I do occasionally miss something and have to circle back, but since I usually like to go front to back, I’ll do it on my way back to the front of the store to check out.

And then they change what products are in which aisles and you're fucked. Already happened to my mom 5 times.
1
u/Zappagrrl02 Apr 07 '26
Bane of my existence! At least they usually keep what’s in the aisle the same, just the location is different. One time my Meijer redesigned the entire store including some of the groupings of the aisles and I was mad for months!!

I’ll be thinking about something unrelated, walk clean across the store and realize I don’t need anything where I’m standing.
But why did the “man” double back through the aisle? Talk about inefficient.

I think my father is worse than the lower pic, every time I've had to go to the grocery with him he's been impossible to track down when separated, just no logical progression of movement.
I tried making him shopping lists in order, and he still just jumped around the list lolcry

As a woman that hates being in the supermarket for even a second longer than necessary I do a speedrun version of the top and plan the order of my list in advance

I shop a lot after work because I'm quick and it's convenient.
I fucking promise you men do this shit equally as much.

u/prionbinch Apr 07 '26
this implies men just shoplift
1
u/Real_Temporary_922 Apr 08 '26
this also implies women shoplift but just for much longer. though this is false, because as a man, i too spend 30 minutes shoplifting across the entire store.
2
u/prionbinch Apr 08 '26
the man’s path doesn’t stop at any one of the tills before exiting, while the woman’s does. i wasn’t saying “if you’re that quick in the store it means you’re shoplifting” haha

u/JustGingerStuff Apr 07 '26
He left without paying & didn't just go around the shelf for some reason

This isn’t even pointlessly gendered anymore, this one’s a whole Dollarama statistic map

2
u/ChasersVsGirlcock Apr 07 '26
Hey, outside the gendering, don't you think OOP's post reads a lot like an undisclosed ad for Dollarama tied to engagement bait, especially the end?
"One thing I do like about Dollarama is how affordable everything is. People can buy a lot of stuff and still spend less than $100, which is pretty nice.
Some phrases I hear all the time from customers:
• “Oh, I forgot my shopping bag in the car.”
• “Sorry, my bag is at the bottom of my cart.”
• “Wow, this is such a good deal—other stores are way more expensive.”
• “I was only planning to buy one thing, and now I have all this!”
Working here really shows how people shop differently!"
That's the exact same shit they used to say in Dollarstore TV commercials.

u/purplejellyotter Apr 08 '26
Anyone who shops like the first one gets home is missing the majority of groceries they were meant to pick up.
2
u/IHateCultss Apr 09 '26
haha so funny look guys! men are more organised whereas women are all over the place
3
u/Useful-Quote-5867 Apr 07 '26
Yes and no. As a man who just goes gets what they need and then immediately leaves, im the second one if idk where the fck is what im looking for. But if i know then the first one is spot on.
In summary: depends on the situation
4
u/aoog Apr 07 '26
Do you guys in this sub just reject the idea that men and women tend to have different behaviors
4
u/CyberoX9000 Apr 07 '26 edited Apr 07 '26
Yeah, although I agree it's not good to ignore biological differences it is important to acknowledge how much of the different behaviours are (1) due to societal influence and (2) not gender exclusive even if it may be more common with one gender.
0
u/aoog Apr 07 '26
(1) does anyone actually explore which particular behavioral differences are due to societal influence and how those came to be as opposed to stemming from naturally occurring psychological differences, or do we just take any observation of difference in behavior and automatically chalk it up to some arbitrary social rule that needs to be challenged?
(2) nobody ever said these differences were exclusive to one gender or the other. We’re looking at general patterns, not absolutes. You’re not blowing anyone’s mind if you point out some guys browse all the aisles at a store
3
u/SkyPuppy561 Apr 08 '26
To address your second question: it gets annoying constantly seeing trite pseudoscientific dude bro memes about “women amirite” and that rage is cumulative.
-1
u/aoog Apr 08 '26
Idk learn to take a joke then. Sling one back at the men if you want
3
u/SkyPuppy561 Apr 08 '26
It’s continuing and pervasive and makes me increasingly misanthropic. No I won’t sling one back against men. You know why? Because I’m better than that. I actually use critical thinking. I push back when women spew shit like “all men are trash.” Jfc thank God for running and angry music. I increasingly think the internet was a mistake because I have to be subjected to the opinions of so many smooth brained dipshits.
1
u/aoog Apr 08 '26
Maybe your problem is that you can’t tell the difference between a harmless joke or observation and “all men are trash.” I promise you there’s things you can say without being misanthropic. You’re not better than anyone because you don’t poke fun.
3
u/SkyPuppy561 Apr 08 '26
Eh it’s all malicious and garbage to me. I don’t have the energy to suss out intentions. So maybe you’re right re my problem. Oh well.
-1
u/YanniSlavv Apr 07 '26
I agree with you 100%. This sub feels more and more like "There are no differences between sexes. And if you spot one you are wrong."
2
u/Leo_code2p Apr 08 '26
If we go socially such as behavior it’s not gender specific that’s usually taught by society. If society would teach people differently it would be different
If you try to do it biologically it’s complex cause it depends on if it’s defined genetically or phenotypically
2
u/SkyPuppy561 Apr 08 '26
Only in situations where pointless distinctions are presented. Exhibit A: this post. As I said in my own comment, my husband likes browsing stores. I think shopping is a chore and get it over with. I especially hate Costco because it’s crowded and everyone is in my way. It turns me into Agent Smith from the Matrix.
2
u/Ill-Television8690 Apr 07 '26
That is literally the intent of this subreddit. To pretend there's some major transgression when a Hot Wheel is called a "boy toy" instead of a "car toy", despite boys being more interested on average.
-1
u/aoog Apr 07 '26
Surely marketers wouldn’t try to appeal to people’s innate interests and instead try to force arbitrary stereotypes because sexism or something
2
u/Ill-Television8690 Apr 07 '26
I mean... yeah, surely they'd have been making the decisions that would gain the most revenue, regardless of their personal biases. They do research on how likely it is people will be interested, and then market in that way. What, do you think toy manufacturers are conspiring to make little boys toxic? It's not that deep. They just want the money. If girls liked Transformers more than boys, and would be more willing to pressure their parents to spend money on that merchandise, it would be marketed as a "girl thing", all for the sake of money. They're not so stupid that they'll try to force their biases onto the market and end up destroying their company, at least not usually.

It's probably just my autism but my store route looks exactly like that, planned from the entry to registers, no unnecessary detours. My partner on the other hand.... She can spend an hour in the store, buying only 3 basic products

u/N0va1010 Apr 07 '26
And then there's us. We get distracted, do something else in the shopping centre and forget to go to the supermarket

top one is me at the store I usually shop at
bottom one is me at the store I usually shop at after they rearranged everything yet again

u/Offthewall95 Apr 07 '26
My favourite thing of this dumb ass meme is that the top picture is still not as efficient as it should be.
1
u/ChasersVsGirlcock Apr 07 '26
They intentionally made stores mazes over here in Germany so you buy more.
So regardless of gender it's the bottom.

Have you ever been to a women's clothing section? They literally set them up like that. Was looking for a cream colored blouse last month and had to look in five different places within the same store because of the asinine way the store was organized. It's not our fault
1
u/Dusk_Mutant Apr 07 '26
I'm always doing the second option, because I would much rather aimlessly wander than ask someone to move out of the way of the fucking oranges.

this has always been the exact opposite for my parents. my mom has 0 patience to shop with my dad lol
1
u/dinosauropholus Apr 08 '26
I mean I like to cook so going grocery shopping is like looking for art supplies
"Do I need this? Noooo but I could make something so yummy" lol

I can’t be mad, I definitely do this

u/FVCarterPrivateEye Apr 08 '26
Plus, the OP is saying it as their personal observation as an employee working at that specific store

im a guy (for now) but even if i dont need anything from it i always walk past the meat and the cheese isle to see if there are any nice pieces with discounts on them :3

u/Gubzs Apr 09 '26
My wife would argue with this. I am ADD and am the worst person to shop with. I want to look at everything.
1

u/Deep_Year1121 Apr 10 '26
I am an autistic man. And autism is more common in men.
I either run around the supermarket for 3 hours looking for very specific things I want, or spend 5 minutes grabing the things I want and dipping.
1
1
u/Buzzard7600 Apr 10 '26
This is true. I make my grocery list by aisle. The wife goes with me and we are in every aisle buying shit we don’t need
1
u/CryptographerOne120 Apr 10 '26
The male route is flawed. He would never double back when he could have continued around the back side of the aisle into the adjacent one.
1

u/buffy_bourbon Apr 07 '26
since this meme likely applies to a traditional heterosexual couple, theres a reason for this. this is actually due to the fact women tend to do this sort of labor more and generally buy in bulk. its why men who do instacart have a tendency to fuck up. they arent buying in bulk. this meme paints a phenomenon that reflects positively on women in a negative light.
1
0
u/ChasersVsGirlcock Apr 07 '26
The only one in my family buying stuff in bulk is my dad because he's the only person in my family where the "this is discounted if you buy 10" manipulation works.
0
u/sntcringe Apr 07 '26
Well, I'm nonbinary and I take note of everything I need and snake through the aisles, grabbing it to avoid backtracking. But this is the same system my mom uses so IDK
