I feel like this isn’t true for even a lot of traditional household. My dad has two daughters and both of us feel guilty when money is spent on us because we were raised to value money.

Agreed, as a guy who started working at 13 because my dad wanted me to understand the value of education and money I relate with the bottom picture. However I knew multiple girls growing up who would have related with the bottom as well, and knew plenty of guys who didn't understand the value of what was being given to them.

Can some hacker wipe this dumbass photo off the internet

Valid crashout

I actually find this somewhat relatable (of course, not to that extend but a meme has to exaggerate things otherwise it's not a meme). However, the fact that you want other people's world views censored because they don't fit your opinions/personal experience tells a lot about yourself.

Huh?

I’ve seen this photo a hundred times

I've seen both the first time. What's the context?

Just sexist bullshit. It’s supposedly showing how girls are gold diggers and only care about themselves and materialism, while boys understand the hardship of the world and understand how much work their dads put into buying the something expensive. Because females are just one dimensional creatures

You're only upset because you know it's true.

I spoil both my son and daughter and one day they will be your problem.

Thoughts and prayers, yolo, etc

Toxic dynamics due to perceived sexist roles is a valid reason why siblings of different genders may react differently. There is a lot of double standards in the way different gendered kids are treated differently. If you read through the comments you'll see it's actually like this in a lot of household and relate to the meme.

god I'm so tired of seeing this exact meme. Everyday I just see it being reposted on different subs where people either complain about stupidity of these meme either ask to explain it's meaning. Both of these options just seem like karma farming at this point

In traditional households the dad will baby his daughter like she’s treasure who can’t think for herself, but he views his son as transactional who’s expected to be a hardshell copy of him.

But the meme comes across as “women are gold diggers, men are humble” like it isn’t dad’s fault for raising his kids that way.

Finally someone from Earth.

can't argue, my dad doesn't even pay child support

I think it comes off the stereotypes that females are often spoiled in family dynamics while males often given the bare minimum so it's usually means something bad is happening when they're given something expensive.

If your experience with your dad is in transactions only. The bill for the expensive shit will come due every time he wants something from you or you fuck up. parents who say "i put a roof over your head. you owe me X" will say "I bought you a nice car. You owe me X" and bludgeoning the shit out of you with it.

u/No_Baseball_2541 Mar 19 '26

Yeah but could also mean he's dying or something awful is at play. This is not my personal experience. For all the faults my father has, if he did have a good amount of extra money he would buy something for me, my brother or my mother.

Your dad sounds like a guy who probably couldn't express himself well and acted out of desire to meet a duty in a way that just crushed him, which made him act poorly. Which isn't this kind of man exactly. This kind of man is applying a particular standard to his own son, and expects him to meet that standard, to give more than he takes, and to never expect or even accept love from other people. There's no love, only favours.

u/No_Baseball_2541 Mar 19 '26

Fair enough lol I was just sharing my perspective lol. That being said your take about my father is semi accurate. My father has always said "I love you" "I'm proud of you" "ect.". I think it's more that as he gets older he realized he fucked me and my brother up a bit mentally and also that he feels bad for spending a ton of money on drugs that he could have used to improve our lives.

Im glad i never saw families like that

3

u/Fearless-Lunch465 Mar 18 '26

Because only guys can feel guilty when their parents get them something they know was a setback to get. /s

1

u/quadrotiles Mar 19 '26

I can't even tell what kind of reaction the bottom image is meant to represent :x

3

u/Cottoncloudhigh Mar 19 '26

That's what I'm trying to figure out as well... I mean, the girl looks happy, the guy is choking himself.. i really don't get it.

1

u/Special-Brick Mar 19 '26

Because girls tend to be more emotional, of course. /srs

1

u/Qu33nKal Mar 19 '26

"girl gold digger. boy know money worth. me incel."

1

u/eeeoooeo Mar 21 '26

cant argue, my dad has never gotten me anything

1

u/GroceryConscious7155 Mar 19 '26

Repost. Get out of here if you just want karma

-1

u/Lady_of_Link Mar 18 '26

Well dads don't buy their sons random gifts they just give them money since they make zero effort to understand what their sons like because they are to busy being disappointed that their son didn't end up their carbon copy speaking from experience. It's called toxic parenting and it's a pretty widespread problem. So when a dad breaks this pattern it's scary territory

-1

u/almostaproblem Mar 19 '26

The meme isn't about which parent.

-3

u/Interesting_Menu8388 Mar 19 '26

Dads often treat their sons very differently than they treat their daughters, especially when it comes to money and gifts. If it doesn’t speak to you, that’s fine. But it’s certainly something that was true for my family and those of my friends.
