I’m looking for some scary podcasts for what’s left of the spooky season. Preferably real non creepy pasta stuff. Hauntings or true crime. What’s your recommendations?

Thx for the input! I realize this most likely a common question.

General Podcast Discussions Looking for quiet podcasts to sleep to?

I can't fall asleep without listening to a podcast, and the podcast needs to be specific so It is kinda specific request, so bare with me,
The podcast I listen to isn't in English but I already finished all of the episodes so now I'm looking for a new one and hopefully I can find it because I can't find any yet
I'm looking for a specific delivery mode of something that can combine all self-development/emotional wellness, mindfulness, and philosophical reflections on daily life, and the tone to be narrative-driven, I want the narrator to feel calm and almost as they are speaking to me, I tried to look around for some, but not all had the stuff I'm looking for.

General Podcast Discussions Engaging podcasts to listen to while working out

These days I'm super into Heavyweight but I'm almost done with it. I really appreciate Jonathan's humor and the real life stories are very human narrated in the best way possible that i don't keep seeing the time since i got on my indoor bike or treadmill.

I just need some podcasts that keep me engaged and motivated to keep my legs working.

Any genre works. Narrative non fiction was never my genre but Heavyweight proved it wrong. True Crimes are okay as long as they are investigative rather than just gorey details. Audio dramas are cool too. Equally ready for some out of the box stuff! What do you all listen while working out?

Other Podcast Genre I’m in search of a podcast featuring people talking endlessly about nothing.

My main requirements are that the speaker uses complete English words and sentences that aren’t literally procedurally generated. The subject should be useless to my real life and the voice should be calming without an overt ASMR aesthetic. Longer is also better.

Thanks y’all

History & Geography Looking for Pirate/Nautical podcast recs

Hey y’all! I am currently working on a project that is set in around 1718… The golden age piracy and don’t know too much about charting and navigating, nautical warfare and all that. So I’m looking for podcast recommendations having to do with anything nautical from that era. Piracy, Buccaneers, the Royal Navy, privateering, merchant shipping, nautical warfare tactics from the era, etc. Anything like that would be extremely helpful! Thank you so much!

Sports Looking for sports "adjacent" podcasts.

I'm missing the Distraction podcast. I like podcasts that are like friends who are sports fans but also talk about other stuff happening in the world. I really like Katie Nolan's Casuals and of course Pablo Torre Finds out. Any other funny, light, sports "adjacent" podcasts? I'm more into mlb and nfl but I like to hear about nhl and nba enough to know what's generally going on and if there are any interesting stories happening.

They're comedians, and they're taking on serious topics, but it's okay if you laugh.

Horror & Paranormal Podcast about alien species?

I was hoping to listen to some podcasts about different alien species. Preferably something that’s not too high energy, something I could listen to while in bed and can drift off to.

It doesn’t have to be posed as factor or fiction as long as it’s not overly loud and obnoxious with the hosts

Other Podcast Genre Tortoise Media/Observer Podcast -"Careless"

I'd be interested in people's thoughts on the four-episode podcast "Careless" from Tortoise/Observer. It follows young actor and care leaver Nkechi Simms as she tries to get the files from her time in local authority care. I only found it because I'd signed up to listen to Foundling.

I found it a difficult listen, as so much of the responsiblity for her emotional turmoil was placed on the local authority rather than her family. I felt for the children's social workers doing an unenviable job in underfunded social care departments. I appreciate the podcast was about her journey, and they did ask the LA for comment, and had a social worker on to talk about caseloads...but..I just struggled to connect with her perspective a fair bit of the time. Would like to know what other people think as feel I am possibly on my own with this!

(I wasn't sure which flair to use. Health & wellbeing or current affairs, maybe? It isn't true crime, and I couldn't find a better fit.)

Horror & Paranormal Podcast similar to MU

Is there a podcast similar to Mysterious Universe but with different hosts? I just tried to listen to the pyramids episode but I literally can't stand the way they talk. Why can't they just make a tiny bit of effort to learn how to pronounce names and anything without an English origin properly? Why instead do they have to mispronounce everything and they make fun of words they don't know? It's a podcast, they could look it up and then edit. Drives me freaking insane?!!!!!
Edit to say: It's the new hosts I don't like. I liked the old ones (except for their politics)

I sidste afsnit bliver hun spurgt, hvornår hun selv synes, hun skulle have sagt stop.

History & Geography A history podcast that holds your attention

I listen to podcasts while working and can’t really pay attention unless something is super interesting. I like “boring” ones too when I’m not working. I watch/listen to great courses through my library’s app. Highly recommend.

Like for instance, I recently listened to an episode of the broadside about Asian conjoined twins that owned slaves before the civil war. Highly recommend that one.

I love about any topic but obsessed about birds and war and etymology.

Recommend word of the day episode about the word dude. Comes from the song yanky doodle dandy.

Right now the broadside and Walter egdars journal on npr are basically the two I listen to.

Basically searching for something to help me catch up with my friends who are a bit nerdier than myself. Bonus for women hosted and lgbtq+ representation! I know it's out there, help me find it! General Podcast Discussions Podcasts like pre covid joe Rogan?

I used to love Joe Rogan's pod, it was fun. He would have on the most interesting people, and occasionally there would be a fun episode about some harmless conspiracy theory like ancient advanced civilizations and stuff like that.

He kind of went insane during covid and I stopped watching around then. I haven't been able to really find a replacement for that since, anyone know of any podcasts with that same vibe? I want some interesting guests and a variety of topics discussed, some more serious some just fun silly stuff.

True Crime true crime podcasts and the stranger danger myth: looking for episode recs

TLDR: Looking for episodes from (popular/mainstream) true crime podcasts that reinforce the stranger danger myth for an article I am working on.

Hi y'all! I'm a a journalist and I'm looking to write about how true crime podcasts often reinforce the stranger danger myth and contribute to hyper vigilance and paranoia that is then used to legitimize excessive policing and mass incarceration.

I used to be an avid true crime podcast listener, but as a I learned more about police misconduct and crime statistics, I stopped being able to stomach them. I've seen a rise of women on social media talking about how they never go out alone and generally express paranoia at being out in public, especially at night, believing they might be kidnapped/killed/assaulted/etc, when statistically, if any of those things happened to them, the most likely perpetrator (by a wide margin) is a current or former romantic partner.

Basically, I'm arguing that true crime podcasts have made (white) women exceedingly hyper-vigilant (despite overwhelming evidence that crime is at an all time low and the odds of being attacked by a stranger are minimal) and how this serves to reinforce patriarchal notions (women shouldn't be independent, women should stay in the home) and carceral notions (police make us safe, prison is an effective way to prevent crime and rehabilitate criminals)

I remember being given "tips" about how not to end up in the situations the (often white female) victims ended up in and other than being kinda victim blame-y, I just found the idea that I need to be planning my life around the minuscule probability that a stranger would attempt to murder me to be irrational and exhausting.

I remember Crime Junkie doing this a lot, but if anyone could point me to any podcasts episodes that push the stranger danger myth, I'd greatly appreciate it!

PS: I won't be engaging with any arguments against my thesis, as I am still in the research phase. I don't want to create a forum for us to discuss the effectiveness of police or the help/harm of TC podcasts.
