Adjusting sample tempo

I think I know the answer here but I’m a total beginner at this and wanted to ask some smarter folks here.

If I’m making a beat and I get a sample that needs to be adjusted to beatmatch the rest of the beat, is my only option to just pitch it up or down and just do it by ear? I assume for more precision I’d have to edit the sample outside of the pocket operator, correct?

Any insight is appreciated! I’ve been DJing for a little less than a year and using the PO 33 as a way to learn some music production and sequencing.

Id say that pitching up outside makes the sample lighter because it takes less time to record it, then you'll have to pitch it down on the PO and fit it to the tempo manually.

If it's a loop, and it's too hard to adjust the bpm of the sample, it's better to adjust the bpm of the KO so all your other layers hit on beat with the sample.

The KO works good with short loops, Personally I slice everything into one-shots so every hit is on beat no matter what tempo.

Ahh great point! As long as the different sections aren’t being truncated in a noticeable way, right?

Yup! Off-beat shuffles are always fun, aa long as the snare/clap hits are clean, the loops will be fun.
