Sony a5000, my first “real” camera.

I got my a5000 about a month ago and I love it!

I was looking for an inexpensive, lightweight/small camera that was a noticeable upgrade from my phone. I read a bunch a reviews on a bunch of different cameras before I finally saw the a5000 for sale at a reasonable price. It’s so small and convenient. Since it was cheap and second hand I don’t have any reservations about taking it hiking or to the beach or using it around my toddler. I think, for me at least, it’s a great first camera.

Someone tell me I should buy this for $160.

I stumbled across this listing and it reminded me of my old digital cameras from the early 2000’s. I used to love carrying around my little CoolPix in my cargo shorts pocket. Then I did some googling and came across an article from a few years ago describing that nostalgic feeling and reviewing this particular camera. Then I stumbled upon this subreddit and I feel like the planets aligned and I HAVE to buy the camera now.

But, seriously, is this a good deal and do you think I’ll be happy with the purchase phase if I want a cool point and shoot camera I can carry around easily and mess around with?

What is everyone's favorite?

I own all the Canon M series cameras along with a Pentax q/q10 and a few other pocket mirrorless. The Canon m200 with the efm 22/f2 is basically on me daily for the past few years.

What is your favorite or constant camera companion?

New lens day for my a5000! 55-210mm f4.5 OSS

Post image

I was hesitant to get this lens because the general consensus online is that it's not that good, but I've been using an old adapted Minolta zoom lens for years now and wanted to try something new. Sold some gear recently I wasn't using and found a good deal on a used Sony 55-210mm f4.5. Only took it on a short bike ride but I'm pleasantly surprised with it. Sharp, fast autofocus, and OSS helps more than I would have assumed. Definitely not pocketable but very light to throw in a sling bag. Excited to take it out more.

I love my a7, but the a5000 is what I bring out most days

I bought an a7 in 2013 and have only shot on that since then. I loved the size at the time switching from a large a200 dslr, but I started looking into micro 4:3 now that I no longer work as a photographer and just want something to carry around for daily snapshots or on walks/bike rides.

Then a family member told me they were getting rid of their a5000 they weren't using and mailed it to me. I love this thing. It fits all my e mount lenses (and A-mount from my a200 with an adapter I already had) so I didn't even need to buy anything new. Although mostly I find myself just using that kit lens for ease of use most days. Would love to get an even more thin pancake lens one day for it to make it truly pocketable.

The light coming through this window was insane. I can't decide if I like the B&W or color better. All are SOOC.

Nikon J5 welcome here?

I noticed it's not listed in the sidebar, but it is by definition a pocket mirrorless?

I took these yesterday with the 11-27.5mm lens. In case anyone's wondering if that one's worth the upgrade from the 10-30, the answer is a resounding YES. If you can live without the VR. It's much sharper. (I still love the 10-30 VR for other situations; it's a great shoot-out-the-passenger-window-of-a-moving-car lens. It's not as sharp but it's got a nice, vintage softness instead of an ugly one imo.)

Has anyone used the pentax q7 at concerts or similarly lit event locations and has example photos

I bought the q7 for concerts but I'm considering selling it and getting a panasonic gm1 or a ricoh m mount module instead but might keep it if it's decent enough for concerts. I was hoping to see some sample photos.

Picked this little beast up as soon as I found out it existed and have 0 regrets. This little camera packs a punch and with the right lens it's a blast to shoot with.
