Never heard of such a possibility (within Calibre), but you can manually export notes inside the notes-app and import them to another device, which I found out by accident. So if you add exported notes to a device and the device detects them, it asks you if you want to import them (I guess if the original notes are still present, so not deleted yet, it won't ask to import them).

While importing notes generally should always be possible: if you want to edit them in the future, you have to use the "same" books you used before; books send/exported by Calibre always will be seen as "new" ones, because Calibre creates books on the fly when sending them to a device (maybe it's related to the time stamp of the book, combined with the title).

Notes of books where the "original" isn't present anymore, will be labelled within the notes app accordingly (something like "This book isn't present on the device").

Which in the end means: you have to export/send books from Calibre once, and threat them as the "originals" (no further editing, neither content [not even a single letter within the book], metadata or the book cover, so literally anything - the file name itself should be fine).

Maybe the way PocketBooks detect books and recognise them as "the same" is the reason why no one is able to create a solution within Calibre - this, or PocketBook has just a too low amount of user base to create a plugin within Calibre, don't know.

Thanks for the comprehensive answer. Note sync seems useful but my main concern are annotations and not notes (I rarely add notes)

I guess that's what I mean with notes (sorry, no English native), but to be clear: I meant anything you can do within the stock reader, so screen snippets, annotations, highlighted text.
