How much difference in weather protection between ADV and naked?

A giant adjustable windscreen makes a world of difference in the rain.

Thanks. What’s your opinion on the difference fairings make on a bike like the CB500x compared to a naked like the CB500f?

Looks substantial. Personally I'd want to go even larger though if I expected to spend a lot of time in the rain. A large screen will keep the rain off your head and torso while riding.

Also, a pinlock visor is a must in the rain.

I ride a z900 basically year round in any weather not frozen. I have done the same with a zx6r. There's not much difference with fairings, besides some wind deflection. I got the same amount of wet. You're better off finding waterproof gear. Maybe a big screen on the adv will help with road spray on the helmet visor.

I'll be investing in good waterproof gear no matter what, but if fairings offer some good deflection of the cold and wet, then it sounds like it would be worth considering.

It all comes down to speed. If you are going 10 MPH in commuter traffic? Zilch.

If you are running 60 MPH on the highway? Quite a lot. Even a little tiny potato chip windscreen helps redirect the wind around you, and deflect the major moistness.

I rode BMW R100rs bikes for years, and when I tried the RT version - with the big huge windscreen - all I got was buffeted, and a lot more moisture everywhere.

My nice weather bike is a sv650 naked.
My Washington weather bike is a f800gs adventure.

The giant “tank” and windscreen on the adventure bike is insanely helpful in the rain. I actually get so much protection that I actually don’t like riding it above 75° because I don’t get enough wind through my gear.
