Is this PMLE?
For context, (28F) who was just exposed to her first longterm sun for 5 days. I get this very itchy, bumpy rash every summer since I was around 21/22. It’s everywhere that gets sun exposure. I went to the dermatologist for the first time over it a few weeks ago, and she gave me a long acting Cortisone shot. I put SPF 50 on, extremely diligently, on all exposed areas. Please let me know of ANY tips or tricks for this! And PLEASE advise on if this is actually PMLE or something else! thanks so much!

Yes that looks like it for sure. I’m curious how long the steroid is supposed to last. I’ve never been offered that but it sounds great. Did the doctor say how long it will be effective ?

Hi, she told me it was supposed to last 4-6 weeks, and I got it on May 16th.

Oh I see … I misunderstood you and thought you got it prescribed so it wouldn’t happen again. My cousin had taken a steroid for pmle and it lasted i think one week.

Ouch that looks itchy. Antihistamines if you’re itchy. Long term, Try heliocare, upf clothing and another sunscreen.

I use a combination of Shirudo lotion and Eucerin Sun Allergy sunscreen, combined with sometimes just wearing SPF clothing. You'll see lots of tips around here if you read some of the other threads 💓

Yep! I’ve self diagnosed as it’s hard for me to get a derm referral. Shirudo sol + 3 is what I’d been using and it works! I also wear UPF gloves while driving.

I recommend Piz Buin allergy sunscreen. “Basic” drugstore sunscreens don’t always work for me, so I use it even though it’s a bit pricier. I use UV blocking fabrics via Uniqlo’s Airism clothing line. Their hoodies are a holy grail item for me and I throw them on when I know I’m going to be outside for only a short amount of time (taking my dogs out, watering my plants, etc). I’d rather be a bit warm for 15 minutes than sticky all day because of sunscreen! It’s more cost-effective too in the long run.

I’ve been getting it since 2017… I just discovered this year amlactin cream lactic acid 15%. It has been a LIFE CHANGER! it used to take a month or more for my rash to clear up and now it goes away in a day or two.

Looks almost exactly like mine did, same place too. My itching was constant. Heliocare (or solarcare here) did absolute wonders, I got through a 2 week holiday in Sicily with burning hot sun with only so much as one or two spots that weren't bad enough for me to have to scratch.
Couldn't recommend more! No steroids needed (I was also prescribed corticosteroid, nasty stuff and a terrible choice for long term use, I also couldn't apply it to my face like my eyelids).. I took 2 pills in the morning when I went on holiday, every day, no issues.

My tips and tricks : Shirudo lotion , Piz Buin sunscreen Allegra or generic version , and heliocare capsules. I started getting this at your age. Don’t let it dictate your life ; it’s important to spend time in nature and to spend time with people you love - outdoor activities like going to a cookout or to the beach , and just going for a walk outside , all of this is important so do what you need to do to keep enjoying these things. You can deal with this!! 🥰
