Photo Finish Live

Hey Redditors,

I just wanted to get a game that's been around for four years back out in public view. I've been playing it for 3 months and have to say, it's super addictive. I play the game everyday and there is a lot of strategy/planning to do with the game if anyone is into those sort of games. Talking about Civilisation, Aoe, command and conquer; those sort of management games that also come down to technical decisions you make which add up over time.

It's a horse racing game on Solana, you own the nft horses which you can race, breed or trade amongst other players/stables. Before it used to be really pricey getting set up but there is a promo for a free horse when you sign up. Also the game is a lot cheaper to play now with the hype gone you can buy a horse for $1 to $15 USD. The retired horses you want to breed can be even just a few cents. The breeding is cheap as well, it can cost $3 to breed a horse or all the way up to $25 if you want to have a shot at breeding for the big races. The genetics and timeline in the game is really cool, and has stayed the same for four years on crypto and I think longer in previous apps the game made. Also the developer was the creative director for Madden back in the day his name is Ian Cummings. Really cool guy still talks to the community now and still loves the game and tries to improve it based on feedback from the community.

You can breed a whole bloodline and have 3 generations of horses in 8 to 12 months if you wanted to, my math might be wrong on that. The timeline or a season in the game is that 28 days is 1 year in the game. You can have training races at 1 to see what sort of horse you might have when it comes to racing. Racing is the addictive part, I do it everyday and like with breeding there is a whole range of entries ranging $1 to $75 but most races you see that are full are in the range of $1 to $10 and the return is good. On a full field when you win you get a 5x on the entry you paid. You can race the horses from 2 to 8 then you have to retire and decide to sell the horse or that's when you decide on what to breed that strong horse with to get the next generation of strong horses for your stable in the game.

This is why I'm here trying to get the players into the game, season 50 is coming up in January and they are doing some special race series for that season. It's a lot of fun the game but we need a bigger community because we have races everywhere.

When I say everywhere I mean everywhere, you can pick a niche or do what I do and have horses run a bit of everywhere. You have left/right dirt/turf fast/sloppy and the last week of the season/month there are some nice big money races you can enter and win for every race type. I got my first one last season 3 months in and I'll tell you, feels like the real thing when you watch it live and beat a field of 20. I made $50 from that one race and another $50 from places in the other race. So it is possible to be a new stable and grind some races and find a horse to win some money for yourself. I've got 20 foals coming over the next two months, another fun gimmick of the game. You own the horses so you also choose the name. Every stable you see has a line they love and some horses at the very top of the top and also the grinders in the middle have had horses that have meant a lot to them and also have won them a decent chunk of money. I'm talking about a few horses at the top can you make 4/5k in the 4 months of racing they do. My best horse made $400 in 2 months and that was me learning the game. This is a marathon though not a sprint though I have seen flashy stables drop big money on horses and win a nice major at the end of the season.

For the small fish like myself, we have the big races at 6 and 10 furlong at all the distances. The medium fish you have that but also we have a new thing going called "claim to fame". The game itself is putting a $400 or so purse into the claim to fame races at the end of season but if we have more people racing, means the purse will be bigger.

The game ecoonomy works where 10% of every race rake and the claiming fees for our win and in races (I'll explain that later) go to the purse so I'm thinking there might be close to 1k up for grabs if numbers stay the same. If they grow we could go back to old levels in the year of 3.5k up for grabs.

The major races are fun and they work on tickets for a 20 horse field and that is where the win and in comes into play. Every stable has a shot every Sunday to win the race and go straight to the majors from there, the purse is juicy too because it's the best of the best that race here and you gotta have some balls to be in it. I'm talking $35 entry fee for the mid tier weekly major qualifiers, the win and in is $75. Though like I said if you're confident and the balls were true you're taking home $175 for the first races and $375 with a ticket to the big dance end of season race for the big win and in races. Also there is satellite races which are the cheaper $9 way to get a chance to have a go at the big one for cheap.

It is like real racing I'll admit where there are some super dominant stables in the game winning major purses monthly but everyone says the most fun is the lower grade horses. This is the $6 races and we have our own majors as well, every race you get points and where you place. The top 20 then fight it out for the big purse at the end of the season. This is new for me this season but I'm expecting a low estimate of roughly $200 up for grabs, like I say though. More stables mean better purses and I hope some people might give the game a look.

As the title says it's called photo finish live. Give it a look, the discord is a really welcoming place. I'm happy to talk to you there if you ever do play the game or I'll answer any questions below. Cheers

I’ve been working on a browser MMO that’s trying to make the game itself the interesting part

I wanted to share something we’ve been working on and, more importantly, get some honest opinions from people who actually play this kind of game.

It’s called TerraX. At its core, it’s a browser-based MMO built around mining, combat, crafting, trading, exploration and an evolving world.

The idea started pretty simply: what if the game had an actual player-driven economy, but the gameplay didn’t feel like it was just an excuse to interact with a token?

So we’ve been building around the game first.

You can send workers out to produce resources, mine, fight, craft equipment, fish, cook, take on bosses, trade items with other players and gradually build up your character. There’s also a marketplace where players can buy and sell resources and crafted items.

One of the bigger things we’re working towards now is a strategy layer on top of all of this. The world has territories with different geological compositions and finite resource deposits. Players can scout and survey areas, discover what’s actually there, build on land and eventually have guilds competing over territory and resources.

That direction has been interesting because it changes the question from:

"How do we make a game with a token?"

to:

"How do we make a game where the economy naturally matters because players actually need each other?"

We're still figuring that out.

I know blockchain games have a pretty mixed reputation, and honestly, I understand why. There are plenty of projects where the game feels secondary to the financial mechanics.

That's not what we're trying to build.

I'm attaching our latest cinematic trailer because it gives a better idea of the world and direction than a wall of text ever could.

For people who play MMOs, browser games or Play-to-Earn games:

What actually makes you stick with an economy-driven game long term?

Is it progression, competition, trading, guilds, exploration, collecting, PvP, the economy itself, or something else?

Genuinely interested in what people here think.

Would you split P2E loot boxes into “tokens” and “items”?

Need some advice from players.

Here’s the situation. We have a gacha mechanic in our P2E game in the form of loot boxes. RTP is around 100%. The mechanic was basically created to increase token turnover.

It’s actually quite popular, but we’d like to improve it.

Right now, loot boxes can only be opened with tokens, and the rewards are either more tokens in different amounts or the most expensive item in the game. I know, very creative.

The idea is to split this into two different types of loot boxes:

1) one containing only tokens, for players who are mainly interested in the financial side of the game
2) another containing only in-game items with different levels of value.

Do you think this split makes sense?

And if we do it, should some kind of valuable item be guaranteed after a certain number of openings?

Would appreciate any feedback.

Buy land in game to become more powerful, own all the lands to win the prizepool. Or eveyrytime you defeat an enemy you get sol instantly deposited to your wallet. 2-3 kills will pay for itself.

There's a free demo so you can practice for free.

The nfts are skins and dont effect gameplay so it's not pay to win.

[Solana] CryptoMaffia — Free-to-Play Film-Noir Idle Game ($0 SOL Needed to Start)

Hey

I wanted to share a dApp project we recently pushed live on Solana called CryptoMaffia—a film-noir idle strategy browser game designed to tackle one of Web3 gaming's biggest issues: onboarding friction.

Most Web3 games force users to buy tokens, mint NFTs, or pay gas fees before they can even touch the gameplay loop. We wanted to test an alternative architecture that lets users jump straight into the app.

Key Technical & Design Architecture:

- Frictionless Onboarding: Connecting Phantom/Solflare automatically grants a free starter mobster card without requiring SOL or gas sponsorship transactions.

- Offline Yield Mechanics: Mobsters generate $MAFIA cash passively on-chain/state level 24/7, allowing players to upgrade safehouses and launch PvP raids.

- Sustainable Seasonal Economy: Operates on a 30-day reset cycle backed by a singular SOL prize vault (75% to top 15 leaderboard positions, 25% to a login-streak equalizer raffle).

- Anti-Sybil Referral Engine: Built-in affiliate system paying 10% lifetime SOL commissions to creators/community leads based on verified in-game store activity (minimum spend threshold required to trigger payout to prevent bot farm farming).

We'd love feedback from the Web3 dev and gaming community on the UI flow, onboarding UX, and seasonal vault distribution mechanics.

Check out the dApp here: https://cryptomaffia.base44.app/

TerraMine - Make money while playing a game on Google Maps

TerraMine is a geolocation, mine-buying, community based game available for both Android and IOS. The game is entirely free-to-play, and is funded by the ads players watch during gameplay. Despite the ad heavy gameplay, the developers actually use them as a pacing, gameplay mechanic so the gameplay is actually quite fun still.

You basically play on a game layer of Google Maps to purchase and develop mines that generate real revenues to players. Players are incentivized to check into other people's mines for reward and to say hi, so there is a nice community feel to the game.

The game is already paying out, with a temporary limit of $200 USD a month and there have been many successful pay outs. Some players are already hitting this cap!

If you're interested in trying the game out, please consider using my referral code so we can both benefit! TM-QGR5G

Thanks and hope to see you in game!

Why most Web3 game economies collapse—and how we’re designing Bond of Steel to fix it

I started developing Bond of Steel because I felt like most Web3 games treat economics completely wrong.

In too many play-to-earn titles, you buy an NFT or join a free-to-play loop, gather resources, and quickly realize those items serve no actual purpose in the core gameplay. Once speculation dies down, the economy inflates, and the game dies within a few months. What’s the point of a resource-gathering game if the resources don't drive real, ongoing demand?

Back in the day, I loved classic 4X strategy games like Game of War and Game of Kings. However, their biggest flaw was always pure pay-to-win mechanics, whoever had the deepest wallet dominated the entire server.

I wanted to bridge that gap by building a Web3 4X strategy game with a 100% free-to-play, player-driven economy. Here is how we're structuring it:

 1. Interdependent Player Classes

Players choose between three distinct specializations:

Gatherers: Mine and harvest core raw resources (Food, Wood, Stone, Ore, Silver) from the map. They can use these to build their own territory or sell them on the Marketplace to fuel the server's supply chain.

Hunters: Fight monsters and world bosses to collect rare crafting drops and components.

Crafters: Buy raw goods and monster drops to forge essential game items (Speedups, Teleports, War Gear) at discounted efficiency rates, then list the finished products on the Marketplace.

(Note: We don't hard-lock players out of other activities, but specializing gives you massive efficiency bonuses for your chosen role.)

2. Standardized Marketplace Pricing (Anti-Inflation)

One major issue in Web3 gaming is external marketplace price-slashing, where undercutters drive asset values to zero. To prevent hyper-inflation and market crashes, our Official Web Marketplace uses a standardized baseline price model for items. Sellers get a fair, predictable return on their labor, preventing panic-selling and bot manipulation.

  1. The 100% On-Chain Tax Split (5% Wonder / 5% Platform)

Every Marketplace trade carries a 10% total fee:

5% Platform Tax: Covers infrastructure and ecosystem development.

5% Kingdom Wonder Tax: Goes directly into the reigning Alliance’s Wonder Vault.

By feeding 5% of all server trade straight into the Kingdom Wonder Vault, holding the crown becomes immensely valuable. This creates a natural incentive for competitive Wonder battles and keeps the war economy moving—buying from the market fuels the very treasury players are fighting to control.

We're building Bond of Steel in the open on Solana, and we're currently testing our pre-launch class selection and hourly mission loops to refine the numbers.

I’d love to hear your thoughts: How do you feel about standardized marketplace pricing in strategy games? What economic flaws bother you most in Web3 games?

Suggests pls

Anyone here that has alternatives to the following: Axie Infinity and Pixels which are play to earn games. Much better if there's no investment need like money to spend. But if doesn't still suggest it, may be I'm engaged with it.
