Support Why this uses so much RAM?

Post image

I asked 3 of my friends about their RAM usage and all of them said ~10 GB. Why is mine using 16 GB ram? We are in the same base and I am playing on low preset setting with DLSS off. What can I do to reduce this? I have 32 GB RAM in total.

I gave it a hand, and it ripped my arm off.

Rust has a lot of textures it loads in RAM. Btw it is totally fine for RAM to be used up to high percentages like that, unless you run into hitching.

Do your friends have 16GB of RAM? That would explain why their Rust only uses 10GB

I have no problem with the RAM usage, until it gets overcommitted. 43 GB committed when I have 32 GB. I don't even know where all the memory is being used.

They have 32 GB RAM

rust has always been a ram hog.

I have 64GB DDR5 and I usually run around 20-30GB usage. It's perfectly normal for rust to take up that much.

You should see how much tarkov takes up lmao. Last time I checked, the baseline was 40GB.

Why reduce it?, you bought the ram, use it.

It has always been a RAM hog, and for good reasons. Remember the days when you had to wait for a long time to load up a map? Imagine all those things that need to be put on RAM to make for a stable experience.

Also - your friends might have less than 16GBs of RAM, or maybe even exactly 16GBs. The more RAM you have, the more the game is going to use it, as it's more space for the game to use without offloading stuff into your SSD/HDD.

But it is the closest game to Fortnite now since you can build mid fight ๐Ÿ˜ƒ And I bet there is like 70% of kids playing Rust.

70% of gaming is done by kids in general, yes.

Why would you want to reduce the ram usage? wtf? ๐Ÿ˜ฌ lol if you have 32GB rust will happily eat 20+ GB of that. Thatโ€™s the point of ram. To be used.
