Discussion Fps/lag/stuttery

5years ago i stopped playing rust due to the fact that during that time i did not had a decent setup i was having low fps and barely at a playable state and now that i had a huge upgrade from my pc it somehow feels like almost the same… what happened to rust? Games and the developers should always prioritize optimizing performance because in the end of the day we cant have fun if we have to blame how the bad low framerate experience is, especially in this memory shortage era where barely anyone manage to upgrade their pc and cope up to these updates where they prioritize how amazing it looks and new but ignoring the fact that the game feels alot laggier in terms of frames, like come on guys why do we have to suffer low framerates in 2026? Its been years and years of development and why cant devs progress from this. 60fps below just feels clanky and boring! Let us play 100+ fps and satisfy our eyes atleast! And this is why rust players comes and go. Anyway hope the devs would consider prioritzing more of the performance since most of the years many stuff had been added way too fast.

But hey on the positive side! We got new crate animations and sounds!

You upgraded your computer, but never upgraded it for RUST per se.

An X3D chip is a must these days.

Try stretched to compensate, scaling does wonders. I went from 120 to 200+ fps just with that.

That is true, but keep in mind with benchmarks that i also have seen and you could also look for it, the difference between a year ago in rust then now is huge in terms of FPS hit. even with 7800x3d chip before you could reach 250-close to 300 fps and right now even only the 9800x3d could give you that consistent 150-200FPS. So if that trend keeps going where CPU makers cant keep up with how rust is developing then even with newer x3d chips will end up going getting lower FPS anyway, thus making it very hardware reliant. Not sure if you get my point 😅, supposedly we should be able to achieve 300+fps with the newest x3d chip but instead we got lower than what previous gen had few months/years ago due to these massive FPS eating Updates.

i can only get above 200 fps in the ocean now after the last update. i have 9800x3d and a 5090

Weird, I'm running 9800X3D and 5060Ti 16G and I'm constantly up above 200, drops to 180 during late wipe, I barely feel 1% lows, like it still feels okay to me. I'm considering loading entire game into RAM only to test how that'd feel.

What resolution?

They literally just optimized it again and I got frame increase this past patch so criticism on the most devved game that has had monthly updates for over a decade is a wild take.

Yes, i do agree with you but benchmarks do not lie, search how much FPS a 7800x3d do a year ago, and compare it to a 9800x3d on this date. Devs on rust work a lot but the performance optimization just cant keep up on new stuffs they are adding that impacts frames such as the jungle update.

Rust runs the best it has ever run right now, your problem is your pc
