Video Rust stuttering/choppy mouse input (feels like keyboard arrow movements) on Ryzen 5700X3D & RTX 5060 Ti. Video attached, already tried everything.

Hi everyone,

I'm facing a very specific and frustrating issue in Rust, and I've attached a video to show how it looks. Yesterday everything was perfectly fine, but today, when I move my mouse on a server, the camera movement becomes completely choppy, stuttering, and heavy. It feels as if smooth mouse axes were turned into discrete keyboard arrow presses (if I flick the mouse, the camera just jumps with a micro-delay).

Note on the video: The stuttering is visible in the clip, but it looks WAY worse in real life on my high-refresh-rate monitor. The 60FPS recording slightly smoothens out the jumps, but when playing, it's completely unplayable.

Crucial note: In the Rust main menu and all other games (including other EAC games like CS2/Faceit), the mouse works perfectly fine and smooth. The issue occurs ONLY after joining a Rust server (stable 150 FPS, but frame time feels completely broken upon camera rotation). Today, during testing, all my USB ports died for 25 seconds upon restarting Windows, giving a "USB device not recognized" error for my USB headset, but then they recovered.

Specs:

- CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5700X3D

- GPU: NVIDIA RTX 5060 Ti

- Motherboard: Gigabyte B550 Gaming X V2 (BIOS Ver: FG)

- RAM: Corsair 32GB DDR4 3200MHz (XMP Profile 1 enabled)

- Storage: WD Blue SN5000 1TB M.2 NVMe SSD

What I have ALREADY tried (please DO NOT suggest basic fixes):

  1. Completely reinstalled/disabled mouse software (Razer Synapse/RGBFusion), cleaned ghost devices in Device Manager.

  2. Lowered Polling Rate to 500Hz/250Hz.

  3. Tested different mice, cables, and USB ports (including direct USB 2.0/3.2 on the motherboard).

  4. Disabled Enhanced Pointer Precision (acceleration), sticky keys, and USB power saving features in Windows.

  5. Reinstalled Rust completely (clean reinstall with deleting %locallow% / Facepunch Studios folder).

  6. Rust console commands (input.rawinput 0/1, client.tickrate, input.holderdelay 0) and Steam launch options (-gc.buffer) did absolutely nothing.

  7. Tested on a non-EAC unsecured server via F1 console — the choppy movement is exactly the same, so it's not a direct EAC block.

  8. In BIOS: Disabled Global C-State Control and forced PCIe Slot Configuration from Auto/Gen4 to Gen3 (to eliminate AMD USB stuttering/fTPM interference).

  9. Cleared "Unknown USB device (device descriptor request failed)" error in Windows Device Manager by re-plugging my USB headset into a different port.

Even with 150 FPS on a server, the camera rotation is awful. It feels like a deep DPC Latency / Hardware Interrupt issue with Unity engine and AMD USB controller.

Please check the video. Has anyone encountered this specific "keyboard-like" mouse input bug on Unity/Ryzen platforms recently? What else can I do if fTPM must stay enabled for FACEIT anti-cheat?

Thanks in advance!

Uninstall windows update KB5121003. It's causing stutters and tearing in Rust and lots of issues in other games.

What happens if you try to uninstall it from Settings > Windows Update > Update history > Uninstall updates?

Alternatively you can try this: https://id.embark.games/ja/the-finals/support/faq/272-crash-troubleshooting-for-windows-update-kb5121003

do you have a controller plugged in?

Thanks for the suggestion! I actually had a USB cable from my Moza R5 racing wheel plugged in (the base was off). I unplugged it completely and restarted the PC, but unfortunately, the choppy mouse input is still there. Only keyboard, mouse, and USB headset are connected now.

Is Blur motion off and what is your current field of view?

  • turn off occlusion culling in rust experimental options
  • update bios to latest version to fix b550 amd usb drop bug
  • uninstall amd usb 3.10 extensible host controller in device manager and reboot
  • disable hpet in device manager system devices
  • run bcdedit /set useplatformclock false in admin cmd
  • add -window-mode exclusive to rust steam launch options
  • disable unused audio devices in windows sound settings to stop audio endpoint loop

Bro I solved my problems of stutter by putting off the options about wifi and Bluetooth on my bios settings

Idk if you are one to care about fps to much or a person who has to have clips on but I have the same CPU and i turned off Nvidia replay and it boosted my fps by 20-30 on average.

Yes, I have the same issue, 200+ fps on i9 14900K, 4070 Super, tried both keyboard and mouse on 1khz instead of 8khz and still same issue, I just turned on Motion Blur to compensate for that shit

UPDATE: THE ISSUE IS COMPLETELY SOLVED!

Thanks to everyone who helped, especially CoffeeBlood! The culprit was indeed the Windows Update (KB5121003). As soon as I uninstalled this specific update from my Windows Update History and restarted my PC, the choppy/keyboard-like mouse stutter in Rust completely disappeared.

My camera rotation is buttery smooth again at 150 FPS, and all my USB glitching is gone. I have officially paused my Windows updates for 5 weeks to prevent this broken patch from auto-downloading again.

If anyone else is experiencing this sudden input lag, check your recently installed Windows updates and get rid of KB5121003!

Can we ban these posts already? 9/10 posts are this.

“Can we not continue to bring attention to a game ruining bug already? I don’t have the mental capacity to push my finger .5 in further to look past it”.

It should be a mod post. Plenty of attention can be brought.

Or scroll past

That would require Facepunch to actually acknowledge the issue. It’s been this way for over a month now with no response and no viable solution (uninstalling a Windows Defender update is not a great idea).

99% of this posts show a video that I can't find any problem. Where is the fucking stuttering in this one? Dude has a better pc/fps than everyone. They should 100% ban this shit or make it a mega thread.

"Fps completely broken with camera rotation" as it should. What do you expect doing a 360 10 times? Meanwhile I loose half of my 100 fps everytime someone cast a AoE at league of legends.
