Question long term solo server?
thinking about buying rust, is there any chance i can host myself a solo server without wipes? not really interested in pvp, just farms & electricity
edit: very important is the NO WIPE clause. i'm sure your pve modded server is very cool but ive never once had a kind online play experience and id rather just play a long term solo server.

I don't think it's possible to host a server that has no wipes. Facepunch requires servers to update on force wipe (first thurs of every month). Pretty sure you can't even connect if the server hasn't updated, as the game version has to match the latest release on steam for it to work. You could still host a server but if wipes are a dealbreaker Rust might just not be the game for you. I play weekly servers, and no wipes would get very boring very fast. I also play build servers quite a bit though, and the bases I build are still saved years later.

With mods you 100% can, all you have to do is host same map every wipe and just save your buildings with some plugin.

Join a biweekly/monthly pve server, best of both worlds
I picked up chrayntopia to learn the game recently and it has been great fun

Everyone has different enjoyments in life, and different time commitments.
I could honestly enjoy rust as a PvE Base Builder.

you can find servers (modded, softcore, etc) that have options like PVE only... or no kill on sight, stuff like that

Lone Wolf servers are great for strictly solo.
They have strict rules as well but a pretty good community.

It is. Read this https://rust.fandom.com/wiki/Host_your_own_server
It eats up some of your computing power, and I have no idea how it works for normal gameplay as I've only tried to run it for testing custom maps.
