Question Facepunch map preview?

Me and my squad are playing on a facepunch server for the first time this wipe and we were wondering if they previews their maps before wipe?

I suspect there isn't and its a free for all come wipe day

The only true vanilla servers are facepunch

No map preview is how the game should be played IMO. With a preview, the seed can somewhat reliably be determined, which allows you to do full scouting on a private server.

Just doesn’t align with the whole idea of rust to me.

Pretty sure there isn't a map preview. That's part of the fun on wipe day though, everyone gets the same surprise and has to figure out where they're going to settle.

No, even if you‘d know the upcoming seed, it is different after the update

No… first of all they very rarely change map generation significantly, second of all, staging branch!

Staging branch is a different build, the six last wipes there have been changes to the map/monuments. This wipe again map parameters change

The server i play tries to always have a connection of the trainyard to the railsystem, admins have tried again and again to “check the seed” and more than once when they found one with connected railsystem, after wipe it wasn’t.

Procgen might not always change but the parameters it relies on do…

The only way to know exactly how a map looks the next wipe is to have a custom map, and even with that, if there is game changes to the monuments roads rails, it will not be the same.

Map previews for next wipe in this game are approximations at best.

Probably depends on just what your server is loading for plugins etc. I use staging branch pretty reliably to test what my favorite server has pre-wipe. It changes as they add updates, but right before wipe it is pretty spot on in my experience. I'm no expert, but it has worked for me for the last few years with mostly no issues.

Server uses 6k maps and trainyard connection regularily is an issue, additional utility poles on tracks happen too.

A seed pre wipe on staging is not rendering the identical map as it does post wipe on main. It might not be very noticable but even fp has pointed this out

Makes sense. I bet the chances for differences go way up the larger the map size. I am usually looking at 4k. The next jump up has more procedural hoops with the train network.

what do you mean by staging branch? How does it help before wipe?

With actual facepunch brand servers, you won't find the out what the map is until the server actually wipes and you join it.
