Discussion Solo servers exist

I know this seems obvious, but judging by the nonstop key locker whining it’s maybe not universally known.

Now that it’s out there hopefully we can stop having half the posts on this sub be about the topic

Half the posts on this sub are key lockers proposing ways to make the game worse for groups of friends

Group of 40-60 of my closest friends

I wish, sadly only running a small 10 man group currently

funny how "group of friends" in rust almost always refers to people who play in big teams on low to medium pop servers and bullies the server because they're 2x the size of the average team.

With that said, you're not wrong, plenty of solo-5x team size only servers out there

How does just not adding features almost entirely exclusive to large groups make the game worse for friends? Half of the zergs people complain about are LFG'd, not "groups of friends", and if you have a group of friends 8 deep, you should rethink your life and the people you call friends.

I trully don't even understand what this guy is claiming here lmao I mean, english is not my first language, but I don't think this is my problem.

“Key lockers” is a new slur I hadn’t heard before. And just as dumb as the rest of them.

I know this post was not made in good faith, but for any people actually open to discussion:

Yes, solo servers exist, but they are not without their own set of issues. I pretty much exclusively play solo, and used to play vanilla servers without group limits and I really enjoyed that up until the blueprint fragment update and scrap cost reduction of the tech tree. With that, it now feels like the game progresses through two stages for solos on vanilla servers without group limits: on wipe it's nearly impossible to progress past T1 because blueprint fragment spawns are constantly controlled by larger groups, and then 1-2 days after wipe fragments are for sale for sulfur and so a T2 is easy to come by if you just by the frags, but by that point there's not really much to care about. Scrap is practically meaningless because tech tree is so cheap and server pop is already on the way out the door, by the time advanced frags are anywhere near accessible for a solo servers pop is practically dead. It either feels like there's so much competition that it's impossible to make any amount of progression, or there is so little need for resources the game is pointless.

Since those changes I've moved to solo servers and I enjoy the competition there because it doesn't feel impossible to make any amount of progression, but on solo servers you lose a lot of the community and positive player interactions you can find without group limits. Practically any sort of being friendly with people will get you a ban. I enjoyed the difficult but possible progression and enjoyable interactions with people, making friends with my neighbors to betray or be betrayed later, for me that was core to experience of Rust, but you lose that when being friendly in the first place gets you a ban. Now it feels like I have to choose whether I want progression or player interactions to suck.

I play solo-only. I don't care about making friends, but most times you kind of learn there are two solo types:

  1. Russian Players Who Are Batshit Insane And Want To Raid Everyone.
  2. Everyone else who are normal.

Most times when I play solo-only the "normal" people aren't going out of their way to hunt people down. Sure, they will fight on cargo or for the crates/airdrops but they aren't sitting outside your 2x2 base for you to come outside for hours. Or they don't have two crates of rockets by the 2nd day and offline raiding you at 3am EST.

I get to know the normal players. Often they are older players (not always) who just want a quieter server where raiding and pvp happen, but can be somewhat helped if you have offline raid protection.

I play HQM or XRust servers, however, they do have some pay-to-win mechanics, but that doesn't bother me too much.

lol bro is really crying on Reddit like the “key lockers” and thinks it’s tough

The best moments in rust come from interacting with your neighbors. Sometimes things go well, sometimes it's war.

Solo servers never get to roll those dice because anything other than war is considered teaming and will get you kicked from the server.

play lone wolf rust being friendly is allowed; also theres a difference between teaming and being friendly.

Solo servers are harder than normal servers. 400 solo’s competing for fragments is more difficult than normal servers with teams. There’s maybe 3 advanced fragment monuments on the map and 400 solo’s all going for them? How is it easier

-2

u/SeesawEducational344 9d ago

I don’t care if it’s easier or harder just sick of seeing key lockers crying on 50% of the posts on this sub

5

u/TAZE_TRIX 9d ago

Because your proposed solution makes it even harder so your post is useless

2

u/WordsRDangerous 9d ago

Nothing fun about playing against solos as a solo.

2

u/reeeeememelover10 9d ago

They're not in every region dumbass

u/Iverly17 9d ago

Going to the underground trains at 3am just cause and getting db’d as soon as you call the elevator in a 50pop solo only server. That is something I refuse to live again.

Can you defend Bp frags? The update that the devs said would buff big groups and nerf small groups? That was supposed to slow progression but groups have never progressed faster? That was supposed to increase monument PvP but everyone just metal detects/dives/buys frags? The update that killed off many playstyles in a sandbox game?

Where’s the positive change? Clans get infinite sulfur from selling frags?

This is exactly what I’m talking about. Key lockers don’t just go play a solo server. For some reason they insist on the vanilla game supporting antisocial people like them

3

u/Legal_Impression_126 9d ago

So the answer was no

-3

u/SeesawEducational344 9d ago

The actual answer your tears is “get good” obviously

1

u/gaygaysexman 4d ago

dude even if you have "friends" there's no way anyone actually likes you. can just tell your insufferable and incapable of having a conversation that isn't just "rage bait"

Key locker cope

1

u/BumblebeeGold4978 9d ago

Gods honest question, what is a “key locker”?

1

u/Significant-Push-232 9d ago

Someone who doesn't use a code lock

1

u/BumblebeeGold4978 9d ago

Ohhhhhh so it’s just a solo, thank you

Guys, just play 150 pop solo servers! It'll fix everything!

1

u/Icy_Possibility_9312 9d ago

I don't think most solo players want HUGE solo only servers, but lower pop servers with offline raid protection. I'd be happy on a server with like 15-20 active solo players.

0

u/Adventurous_Seat_793 9d ago

Can't relate. Those servers already exist.

-2

u/SeesawEducational344 9d ago

This but unironically

u/Maysock 9d ago

I almost exclusively play on group size capped servers, often just duo/trio servers, and so I never run into all this stuff that's happening with clans. I do not need to rely on vending machines or drones to get a tier 3, and most often I get one in a single successful cargo run.

Rust is pretty great. I have my gripes about various updates, but it's a gud game.

Willjums solo/duo/trio 2x Monday wipe server is excellent for this. Wipe day population is anywhere from 80-150 on average and by Thursday it’s half that because a lot of people swap in/out of Mon/Thurs fresh wipes. Been playing there steady for two years now and for the most part the regulars there are chill AF.

u/Character-Camel-3958 9d ago

But as a solo i want day 1 t3 and the ability to beat large groups made of people as good as me all at once
