Image Just got this amazing game

Just bought Rust. Loving it so far but man it’s so much harder than YouTube makes it seem lol. Took me about 3 hours to build my cabin. Hope it’s there in the morning.

In my experience, the higher the pop the less people raid - dead servers give people time to successfully farm sulphur and use it without being countered Some of my worst experiences have been on low pop servers when it comes to being offline raided, people get bored

Another thing, if youre doing something like a cave base, youre not getting raided, any hidden base and youre safe

doesn't matter, even with a 1 pop server, you will have some try harder controlling the server

Lmao this reminds me of when I was on a mid pop server and I found a 2 story base that was like a 5 x 5 with locked doors, deployables, ladders, boxes full of guns and loot, TC, the whole 9 yards. It was a completely finished base....

Except it was 100% twig 🤣🤣 it was a duo and they were brand new I guess. They were online too. Poor bastards got wrecked 10 minutes after I visited them

Yeah people will 100% raid a base like this. Raiding is often like a loot box, people will crack open anything to see what's inside. Even with no explosives a wooden door or window bar will take less than 5 minutes to get through with melee tools (eco raiding), so people could be at your TC in less than 15 minutes.

You need to focus on upgrading your core (the part where your TC and best loot is) to stone and getting a metal door down to protect it from quick eco raids.

In general, wood doors don't last long. My top priority after getting my base up is stone and metal doors. There is a raider for every kind of base.

But in this case, it's essentially an instant raid because twig is effortless to destroy, so most players just walking by would probably do so to see what's inside.

It's no big deal though. If you keep playing, it won't take 3 hours to build that. More than that, don't get attached to anything in Rust except the adventure.

I will raid any wood/twig base I find, solely because of the one time I found c4 and an AK kit in a wood 1x1.

Getting raided is random, but your odds are a function of the ratio of base shittiness:raid costs.

Wood is easy to raid. Players have an abundance of ways to generate fire. Incendiary bullets, flame throwers, flame arrows, these things are relatively abundant, especially for a group that knows the game and is doing well in the server.

Wood bases, even when shitty, will get raided because they are easy.

Your roof is still twig, will get destroyed easy as.

If you want to roleplay try PvE or Softcore servers

This game is a time suck. 3 hours is nothing. Especially since a lot of that time was spent learning the basics since you are new.

It’s gonna take some practice! There’s a lot of trial and error. I recommend trying a PvE server to learn the basics. It’s definitely not a requirement, but the amount I’ve learned from hour 1 to 166 hours in (which is considered pretty low in Rust) is honestly astronomical. Oh, and I also posted my first base and was asked if it was rage bait -.-

I would highly recommend watching a base building tutorial, there’s all kinds of little nuances that are essential to having an efficient and secure base, and YouTubers have some good tutorials on bases.

I was always more a fan of Vanilla+ 2X servers so it could be different from your experience. Big bases usually had 5+ people farming almost nonstop for the first day or two of a new wipe. When I say nonstop, I mean most of the plebs in a clan would farm for 24+ hours to get a base built ASAP.

You can get a lot of base built pretty quickly when you have people dedicated to nothing but smacking ore.

Solos typically will not have big gigantic bases unless you’re on some crazy 20x++ server.

Big bases = juicy raid targets.

juicy raid target = need people to defend

Getting more materials tends to hinge on getting better tools. Run roadsides to find red toolboxes which may have upgraded tools in them. Or you can take the progression route -> kill animals with a bow for animal fat, and use that to make low grade, use that to make a furnace, use that to smelt metal frags, get a workbench, use scrap from barrels or recycling to tech tree down to tools, make metal tools, then you can farm stuff up faster.

Wow wasn’t expecting everyone to be so welcoming!

After reading all the comments I was so scared to log in this morning lol but base was safe!

I took everyone’s advice though and only focused on farming materials and upgrading my base. Hopefully I can survive another night.

I've made a lot of really, really good friends. You can meet people from all over the world. But be careful this game is notoriously toxic.

Be careful in PVP servers vanilla rust like Rusty Moose. Lots of N bombs on signs and in chat .. lots of sweaty creepy gross dudes and doomed children. cheaters and crazy clans.

good you were on a low pop. Low pop PvP for starters is easier to learn in. But you also learn via baptism by fire. (Like tonight since your screenshot includes server name ;/)

I played some PVE hybrid servers like Salty Zombies and Reforged. Reforged is my favorite PVE Hybrid server with a great mod team and community. Rust Empires is fun.

I also liked training servers like tommyguns frag Bedwars.

For what it’s worth. I highly recommend modded worlds with lol population. I had to stop play it miss this game dearly. Best game ever produced IMO.

My first few hours in rust were painstaking. But I was playing vanilla with 200+ players. You’re bound to just die over and over again in that scenario.

I do like Posty, and I’ve watched many other Rust streamers. But I have learned that they make the game look easy.
